From 52teas

So, you all know that I have been working on clearing out the last of my Zoomdweebie’s Tea Blends to make room for more 52teas, ManTeas, and MySweetHoneybush blends. I had a lot of teas pouched up, and I had a lot of tea waiting to be pouched. From the latter, I have created our tea of the week for this week.

I know many of you think I am crazy; I’m confirming your suspicions with this week’s blend, which is TRULY and completely one-of-a-kind and definitely a limited edition blend. I could not recreate this if I tried. In varying and unknown proportions, this tea has all of the following blends mixed into it:

Apple
Apricot
Blackberry
Blueberry
Cranberry
Cherry
Ginger
Grapefruit
Key Lime
Lemon
Lime
Mango
Orange
Peach
Pineapple
Raspberry
Strawberry
Watermelon
Ginger, Peach and Lemongrass
Tangerine
Banana
Honey Lemon
Guava
Cran-Raspberry

There are fruit peels, dried fruit, freeze dried fruit, some ginger and some lemongrass mixed in it. It is spectacularly ridiculous. I’m not sure if you will taste each of the flavors in every cup or if every cup will be a little different, but it will definitely be interesting.

Round two (and a fresh batch of tea) is really bringing out all the berry flavors in this tea. Holy Berries Batman comes to mind! The taste is of course unique too. This time as I said lots of berry flavor and the green tea. I’m in tea heaven right now…maybe I’ll touch back down to earth when it’s time to go home. Then again maybe I’ll just float home instead!

This was my mystery pouch from the most recent 52teas order! I had originally wanted to get this one but ended up not ordering it due to just ordering 2 green oolongs from Golden Moon – rationalizing that I needed to order more of a variety (even though this isn’t an oolong and oolongs are much different from sencha). However, I did want to try it so I was pretty happy when I saw that this was my free pouch!!

On to the tea! This smells and tastes fairly fruity, which is to be expected. I really like that the buttery sencha is very noticeable and not overpowered by the sheer number of other ingredients present. I am not able to distinguish particular flavors, but it is just very nicely sweet and fruity. This is great hot, but I am seeing iced tea in this pouch’s future!

Made this iced tonight. Sweet and fruity with a nice sencha base. I seem to enjoy these teas more iced as of late. Very delicious with a little bit of sweetner. Yum!

Jaime

I got this one as my freebie!! I can’t wait to try it!

Meghann M

I think you’ll like it. It was my freebie too. I love when 52teas has a special!

1.5 tablespoons for 375 ml of water.

Fruity flavours balanced with buttery green undertone. I can pick out apricot, cherry and berry flavours. Something in here reminds me of 52teas Black Currant Bai Mu Dan .

Thanks to Kittenna for sharing this with me!

Sooo I decided to get this from Rachel and 52 teas at iheartteas when she brought this back. I made it, using my Mr. Ice tea coffee maker and wow did that work out great!
I have to say that the tea smells much more floral than I thought it would. The taste was a light floral with hints of fruityness, I think I can taste the green tea base( I don’t drink much green tea) and overall I liked this tea. I would like to try it hot sometime! It was very refreshing cold. The color was a great pale amber! Yumm!

A bit surprising isn’t it!

Fairyfli

yes it is but I have to say most of the time Frank surprises me with his teas!

Thanks Meghann for this sample to try!!! I am not sure what I am tasting it seems as if every sip I get a different fruity flavor. It is good! So glad I got to try it. I don’t think it would be an everyday kind of tea for me… that of course is the one pound of chocolate peanut butter cup that Frank is blending for me :) But this was an enjoyable fruity green sample!

Lisbet

Wow, that actually sounds good! I wanted to try it, but I was broke then just as I am now :) And more importantly, trying not to buy more tea that I’d have to lug across the country when I was in VT.

Okay so I finally mustered the courage to try this and was so curious on how I would like it based on the rave reviews. So here goes…

First time I made this it tasted like mildly fruity hot water with a touch of butter, but basically flavorless. I tried to steep it longer but no dice. However, I decided not to give up on this one figured it must have been my error in preparation. So I tried again despite knowing I haven’t had too much luck with fruity teas especially those that are green.

So I started from scratch with a little more tea and longer steep time, and BAM there was flavor. Now it was alright as fruity teas go for me but considering all the flavors that went into this I am surprised it wasn’t the train wreck I thought it might have been. (Sorry, Frank!) Although, the fruit base was doable I must say the sencha really made this one come to life for me. In the end it was that buttery taste I loved the most.

End Result: Ya did alright kid…ya did alright!

mmm I like this! thanks so much for the sample Kittenna!
This is good. Now, I accidentally steeped it at near boiling so there is a good chance I burnt the leaves… but it tasted great. Like… fruit! but not your average fruity green. No it went much deeper than that. and yet it didn’t entirely cover up the tea.
Need to try this again with proper conditions. oh and a kettle that is NOT brand new. It’s possible that some of the new plastic scent got into my cuppa, even though I boiled it out atleast four times.
Oh and it did require a teensy bit of agave to bring out flavour

Another tea that I got in my box from Emilie :)

I don’t know if it is because this tea is from 2010, or what, but the flavors just didn’t shine through for me… and there were a lot of them that could have shined through!!! I iced this tea, and all that I could taste was the green tea base. I could SEE some fruit chunks in the tea itself, so that’s why I’m thinking it might have just not been completely fresh. For this reason, I’m not going to rate it since I don’t know the cause of it’s flavorlessness!

Edit: Perhaps this tea came from last year’s reblend… not so certain!

Emilie

I actually got it in the fire sake from iHeartTeas. I’m not sure how old it is though. I had problems with the flavor too, but I thought that was just because I’m not a fan of green teas. Sorry! :(

Madeline Alyce

Oh no I don’t blame you at all! Another tea you gave me said best before 2014 so I don’t think you’re giving me rotten tea! I’m not a huge green fan either so I only blame my taste buds :)

Emilie

And at least you seemed to have good luck with the chai! :)

This was my random free pouch thing, which points to several possibilities:
1. random draw (boring!)
2. they realized that I am a sucker for hilarious descriptions (“Ingredients: YES.” ROFL)
3. they have noticed that I only ever order black tea and are worried about my blood pressure.

ok, ok, so the first one is the most likely, but I like constructing unlikely scenarios in my head! Especially ones that sounds like movie synopses (“SHE’S a green tea with multiple personality disorder, HE’S a cop on the edge. Together, they FIGHT HEART DISEASE”) But I digress.

This tastes like fruit salad. Fruit salad that has soaked in green tea. It’s actually quite nice, since despite the sheer amount of stuff in it, the green tea is still very much a presence, and it’s the nice buttery kind that I like. Right now, I think the most obvious taste is blueberry, but it may just be generalized berry and I am going to blueberry because I made blueberry crumble. I’m not getting much citrus out of it…or maybe I am! And I think I’m getting peach as well, which is what is giving me the overriding “fruit salad” kind of taste. All I know is if I tried to isolate all of these tastes, I would probably never finish this.

I am really interested if each cup will taste different, or if it will always just give me that generalized sort of fruit salady sort of taste. I made a pot this time around and I’m probably going to make this into an iced tea at some point because that sounds delicious. First I have to finish off the casablanca twist iced tea that I made and have been using for the Laziest Not!Mojitos Evar.

In general I am quite pleased with this, I’ve been needing a green that isn’t the Adagio spiced green, so win all around!
