Tea of the Week for June 13, 2022!

This tasty blend starts with a base of organic Chinese Sencha, combined with blueberries, limes & lemon grass. The flavor is a little sweet & a little tart, pleasantly smooth & a little creamy. There’s a well-defined note of blueberry, bright, refreshing lime – as well as a vibrant vegetal note from the green tea. It’s really lovely to sip & it makes a fantastic iced tea (try cold brewing this one!)

It’s also organic, vegan, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & all natural!

organic ingredients: green tea, lemongrass, blueberries, limes, calendula petals & natural flavors

more about this tea: summer seems to have finally arrived here in the Pacific Northwest & while I’m not super excited about that, I am super excited about the teas that I’ll be blending to greet the season. This tea tastes so much like summer to me. The refreshingly bright & tart notes of lime with the sweetness of the blueberry notes in this meld together so perfectly. It makes a delightful glass of iced tea – deliciously thirst quenching! I cannot recommend this tea enough for someone who is looking for something a little different for summertime sipping.

to brew: shake the tea well to incorporate all the ingredients. Use 3g of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (175°F) & allow to steep for 2 minutes. Strain & enjoy.

But the best way to brew this is to cold brew it! Use 3 – 4g of leaf to 12oz of freshly filtered, cold water & allow the tea to steep in the cold water in the refrigerator for several hours (at least 6 hours, even better if you can let it steep for 12 hours) – then strain and serve. If you like your cold beverages served over ice, I recommend using a little more leaf so that the ice does not dilute the flavors too much.

serving suggestion: I have enjoyed this tea both hot & iced. When served hot, this is tasty without additions although a wee bit of sugar will enhance the overall flavor. When cold-brewed – I liked it without additions.

If you like a sweeter iced drink, make a simple syrup by zapping a little bit of the tea (about 1/8th cup) in the microwave with a little bit of sugar (about ½ a teaspoon per 12 ounces of tea) – heat it up just enough to dissolve the sugar. Stir the heated liquid until the sugar is dissolved then add it to the cold tea & stir to incorporate completely. By making this simple syrup using the tea, it won’t dilute the flavors of the tea.

Strange VariaTEA TTB #18

This sounded like a refreshing choice for another unseasonably hot fall day…and it was! I tried a couple of sips hot and then poured the rest over ice, which was definitely the way to go for this one. (I’ll bet a cold brew would be really nice too.) I definitely taste the lemongrass along with the lime and maybe just a hint of blueberry. The base tea is also imparting a nice grassy note that adds some complexity to the flavor, but thankfully no bitterness or astringency. I’m a fan!

A sample from AJRimmer, thank you! I actually prepared this as a liter coldbrew combined with another sample from AJRimmer, “Cranberry Lemonade Green Tea” also from 52Teas, but the ratio was 4g Blueberry Limeade to 1.5g Cranberry Lemonade, so I decided to put the review here as I’m expecting that to be the main flavor profile (albeit likely a bit more lemony).

This is such a refreshing coldbrew! The base is fresh and just a touch grassy, with a strong lemon-lime citrus zing and a sweeter, juicy blueberry note. The citrus is tangy and lingers after the sip. The blueberry mixes with the citrus nicely. Easily gulpable ice-cold from the fridge!

Cold, this is pretty fresh tasting and refreshing. I normally don’t love lime flavoring, but it’s enough of a light hint here mixed with the blueberry that it works. The green tea is delicate and lovely as ever. It shares some qualities with the soda teas that 52teas makes. There’s no tartness from the fruits. The second time I had this, I noticed some herbaceous flavor that I think fits well too – it could be the lime or maybe some quality of the green tea. I like it here though. The third time I had this, it was a little less exciting, but perfectly pleasant cold. I enjoy when teas include lemongrass.

I want to love this more than I do! Something about it feels a bit flat for me. I think I want something really punchy and tart with juicy blueberry notes, but I’m mostly getting lemongrass, a hiiiint of lime, and a bit of creaminess. As it cools I’m getting a bit of mustiness, too. I should’ve cold-brewed my last cup!

October Sipdown!

Preparation: Western, warm
Tasting Note: Very mild, gentle green tea blend which I wasn’t expected from previous blends. I have been stuck on the thought I was wishing for more tart pithiness with this tea like the cranberrry lemonade or an earlier 2021-2022 blend with lime pieces. The lemongrass and blueberry were very faintly sweet. I think this would have been a nice late afternoon tea and possibly better iced.

Well, there’s two fruits I never thought about combining, but it sounds like a really nice blend.

Sipdown! (28 | 125)

I wanted to love this one, because the concept sounded so yummy. But I had a similar experience with her Tangerine Twister green tea, where I could barely taste any fruit here? I do get a bit of lime, but the blueberry is extremely faint to my taste buds.

So mostly I end up tasting the somewhat grassy sencha base with a touch of lime and lemongrass in there. It’s pleasant, but not what I was expecting…

I’m posting this as both a blueberry tea and a lime tea (can I do that? LOL) in this month’s scavenger hunt. I love this tea . I cold-brewed this overnight & it’s especially nice cold brewed: Sweet & a little tart. Very refreshing. There’s also a hint of creaminess to this that I really enjoy.

I love it when teas turn out even better than I thought they would!
