Sipdown! (20 | 381)

I haven’t been drinking much matcha in recent months, so now I’m trying to make an effort to sip through what I have, so it doesn’t just languish in a drawer until it’s sad and brown lol…

Apparently I’ve never written a note for this one? It’s one of my favorites from 3 Leaf! I usually prepare my matcha as an iced oat latte, but this one is also delicious as a matcha lemonade, as you might expect. The raspberry flavor tastes very authentic to me, and has a nice balance of sweet and tart notes. It’s very present but I can still taste plenty of matcha, and their matcha base is smooth and flavorful, as always.

This is also fun to mix with their peach or lemonade flavors!

My first note on this, and it is a sipdown!

This wasn’t bad and I see nearly everyone else loved it. I don’t hate it, but it was the least favorite among the 3 Leaf Teas I have on hand. The reason is butyric acid. Sometimes I can smell it so strongly. It doesn’t come through in the taste. I used this almost exclusively in smoothies so it could blend in with the fruit there.

Butyric acid smells like vomit, and it is in a lot of “natural” flavoring because it occurs naturally in these food in small amounts. I smell it in Lupicia’s Strawberry Black and Fraisier, but not in Carol or Merci Milles Fois. There are other examples, can’t think of them right now, but that aroma was in this tea for me.

Don’t be afraid of this, though. It tastes good, even though the smell made me throw away the first latte I made with it thinking the milk was spoiled!

First tasting note in a long time! I used to write tasting notes at work all the time but we’ve been SWAMPED lately.

I recently ran out of flavored matcha and decided to finally place a 3 Leaf tea order. I believe it was thelastdodo who gave me a sample of their coconut matcha a while back. I love coconut and for the price their flavored matchas are a steal. I ordered a large package of coconut matcha and a sample of the raspberry. I drank the raspberry in cold milk with no sweetner this morning and it was very nice! Not artificial or weird tasting at all. This is one I will pick up more of in the future along with the coconut of course :)

It smells like fresh raspberries. The taste is a little perfume like, but raspberry is in there. It tastes a bit better with cream and the fruity taste would probably be rounded out well with some sweetener. It isn’t something I’m going to be running out to buy, but it does have attention.

Sipdown (116)!

SO MY EDUCATION FUND TRANSFER OFFICIALLY WENT THROUGH! AS OF YESTERDAY I AM REGISTERED FOR TEA SOMMELIER CLASSES STARTING EARLY JUNE!!! IF YOU CAN’T TELL I AM QUITE EXCITED!

Thank you TheLastDodo for the sample!

This is a fairly new company, and one I actually wanted to order from since they’ve got a pretty diverse selection of flavoured matcha and I was interested in seeing how it differed from what Red Leaf Tea offers. Unfortunately they don’t yet ship to Canada, so it was great that TheLastDodo was able to send some for me to try!

Instead of my usual matcha in milk I prepped this cold shaken in a timolino with plain old water. Since this is a new company to me and I’m not familiar with their base matcha I wanted as much of a “plain” taste as I could get.

I liked this; I thought the raspberry was very sweet and natural tasting with just a tease of natural tang to it. It also didn’t seem to eclipse the flavour of the matcha itself which tasted subtly grassy and very, very floral. It had me thinking loosely of both orchids and peonies. The flavour and base together worked very well – the floral components absolutely complimented the natural tasting raspberry.

It definitely makes me wish I could try more flavors from this company – in particular I’m curious about the pineapple matcha and the apple matcha. I love the pairing of pineapple and floral flavours like orchid so I can see that working really, really well. Basically, I’m saying people should give this company a little bit more love because hopefully then they’ll be able to expand their shipping into Canada!
