737 Tasting Notes
I had this lovely moment of total peace this morning while I was waiting for my water to boil. Two of my housemates were making their breakfast in the kitchen with me, and we were all doing something different, but it felt so quiet and lovely and homey.
Anyway. I acquired 2 bags of this tea from my school’s cafeteria. I’ve had a few of Choice’s blends before and been quite pleased. This one smells like your average chai. It steeps a nice amber color.
Sipping… Good. I’m picking up ginger, more so than in any other chai I’ve tried. There is also something almost marine about it, too, although that may be my school’s heavily treated water poking through.
Hmmm. Just your basic chai, I’d say. Good for when you are in a rush on a cold day.
Uh-oh, this tin is getting super old. The bergamot flavor is almost diminished. I even used a larger scoop of the leaves than the serving size, and I mostly tasted the black tea base. I still got the burnt, chocolatey notes though, so it wasn’t a total wash.
I mean, I got this tin for half-price because it was already three months older than its “Best Before” date, but that was back in December. I need to finish this up, quick. Perhaps a nice pot of iced Earl Grey is in my future?
This tea really is good though. I still enjoy it even when it’s old, so just imagine how delish it probably is when it’s fresh!
Very sad day… This is my second-to-last bag of this. I shall need to buy more next week when I go grocery shopping. I love it. I have a lot of the Traditional Mate left, but I don’t like it as much.
It’s so sweet and rich and spicy and earthy… The mouthfeel is creamy and decadent. It’s a beautiful way to wake up in the morning. My favorite breakfast tea.
I think it was a mix of the bag being old, and me not letting it steep long enough that led to it not being as good as it usually is this morning.
Oh, well. When fresh and steeped properly, this tea is pretty good. I find the black tea base to be astringent (I know, I know, that’s what I get for not buying the finest stuff on the market), but the berry flavorings are delicious. I taste raspberry and blueberry mostly, although I think there’s blackberry, too. My internship supervisor sniffed the air near my travel mug and was like, “I smell raspberry… or maybe even cranberry?”
Okay, maybe it wasn’t as weak as I thought.
I highly recommend these Pyramid teas, though. Especially steeped in a glass vessel.
Using up the last two teabags from this box. I enjoyed this blend because it introduced me to Tulsi itself. Now I can detect it when I come across it in other blends.
It seems to be a light, mellow, slightly minty herb with a lot of health benefits. While kind of uninteresting flavorwise by itself, I now happen to know that it is quite tasty when blended with other flavorings, such as lemon ginger and spearmint. I look forward to trying other blends with Tulsi in them, as well as reaping the health benefits that Organic India claims this herb brings to its consumers.
Yay, holy basil!
Oh, man, do I love this tea. It’s fruity, sweet, energizing, and it almost tastes healthy. Having (regrettably) never tried unflavored kombucha, I have no idea how strong its presence is in this blend, but I can say that the spearmint doesn’t take over, which is nice, nor does the green tea base turn bitter. The rest of it kind of tastes like plum and other fruityness. I think it’s amazing!
Picked up a box of this because I loved the Original Tulsi blend from this company so much. I think this one might be even better! The lemon ginger flavoring is actually very mild and plays very nicely with the gentleness of the tulsi. None of the flavors dominate- it’s perfectly balanced and warming without being spicy. Perfect cuppa for a blustery day like today.
I love this tea so so so so so much. It’s full of beautiful, warming spices, and it tastes like chocolate without being sweet, somehow. It’s delicious. It lingers on the tongue and warms the belly. The smoky taste characteristic of yerba mate is diminished, which is fine with me.
It has less caffeine per sachet than the Traditional Mate, but that doesn’t bother me any, because the taste is far better.
