111 Tasting Notes

Oh, Happy Day, Happy Day!

I bought some tea from Teavivire, and IT HAS ARRIVED. I bought two huge bags of this stuff, since mum and I both love it so much, and I bought some Strawberry Oolong which I will try either tomorrow or Sunday as I am going out of town for Friday and Saturday. I will finish reviewing the green teas that Angel sent me, and then go on to hopefully clear out much of my tea stock. I’ve said it a ton of times, but I really am running out of space for my tea.

I’ve reviewed the Milk Oolong enough now that I think I don’t have to do a super long review. It’s as delicious as always, and it tastes of honeysuckle with a creamy milk undertone and aftertaste. There’s also a slight touch of something grainy or malt like that I never noticed before, and it balances out the floral sweetness well.

I’M SO HAPPY!!

I went to Charlottesville. I am back. But I left a piece of my heart behind, because it is a gorgeous place.

There is happiness here, though, because I’m reviewing #3 on my list of Teavivre Green teas, yay!

I was worried that I overheated this one, but so far the taste turned out well. The leaves are very fluffy and curly looking, and they had a floral smell when dry, mixed with the classic vegetal scent.

The taste is hard to pinpoint. It has a nutty, grassy taste to it, more of a sweet grass than anything. But there is this floral, sweet aftertaste. Green teas all have a similar taste to me, so it can be hard to pick out the exact differences, though they are there. I think I definitely pick up on the floral and sweet notes in this tea more than the first two, and it’s a little stronger tasting overall.

I’ve been trying to read over other tasting notes for teas, to see what the common consensus is on how a tea tastes, or just common flavours that everyone seems to pick up. Teavivire also gives a great listing of tastes that are common, so that’s nice and that helps.

This tea is really nice, and maybe I’ll even try it iced at some point. It’s fullbodied, strong, with a sweet, floral flavour and it is really well-balanced. :) Now off to finish drinking it!

P.S: For my fellow teapot users—when you make tea in a teapot, I highly recommend writing a note to your loved ones inviting them to make a cuppa, or making one for them. I’ve started always making enough tea for my mother to share with me, and it’s a nice feeling to make tea for someone other than yourself. I know it can be hard to share some of our favourite teas, but I think these little actions are the things that build onto bigger actions, and lead to more love and light in the world. <3 Share some of the tea love!

drank Queen West Blend by Tealish

Drank the last I had of this, a gift from Azzrian a long while ago. It has lost most of the fruit flavours, but gave a pleasant, kind of malty taste. That may not be anything this tea is supposed to taste like, but I still like it. I think mostly it just tastes like black tea now, and since I added cream it tasted good with that. I can slightly taste the orange and cranberry in the after-taste, now that I think about it.

I seriously need to put a dent in my tea collection. I haven’t gotten a chance to drink or review any more Teavivre greens because I just have so much other that I need to GET RID of. It’s not that I don’t like my tea—but I have no room. NONE.

Anyways, this tea was delish, and I will be reviewing more green tea in another week or so, as I am going out of town tomorrow.

drank Silver Needle by Adagio Teas

I had this once, and I remember I liked it. It must have went slightly bad, because the cup I had this time just……wasn’t good. It had this weird aftertaste I can’t really describe, and didn’t have a good taste before, either. I’m going to lower or remove the rating, simply because I only drank it twice and don’t remember how much I loved it. I really need to clean out my tea stock, I have so much to go through… :/ Anybody want any tea??

This is a backlog from days ago…

I drank it with cream, and it was really yummy! A little more buttery, and almost too decadent. I couldn’t finish the cup, though I only left one or two sips behind, so I didn’t dump hardly any of it, thankfully.

It also was a little too much, as I said, so I decided to take a break from tea for a few days. Having caffeine every day can make me feel weird. I’ll move on to review my next green sample tomorrow, though! :)

This was good with cream, just perhaps not TOO much of it!

Haha, my mum drank a small cup of this and said “it tastes like the last one.” Oh, if she only knew…

Sure, green teas are probably all going to have a similar base taste, but this tea was much more buttery, and less nutty.

Steeping it also had more of that vegetal smell. I don’t think I’ll ever quite like that scent. The taste though, as I said has this wonderful buttery flavour, with a touch of an extra sweetness in the aftertaste. It’s got a slight vegetal taste, but it’s pleasant and not overpowering. Didn’t take it with cream. Will do that on my next tasting. Thanks again, Angel!

Backlog from yesterday…

My mum needed a tea for indigestion, and some quick research showed green tea was my best bet. So, I steeped the last leaf from the first packet I had. (I’ve got two more packets, don’t worry!)

For her cup I made it with a very small bit of cream and two and a half teaspoons of sugar, since she likes her coffee and tea sweet.

For my cup, as I had already drank it creamy yesterday, (my previous note) I took it with no cream and 3 teaspoons instead of 2.5, just to see what flavours would come out with the added sweetness.

It had a fantastically smooth, sweet, grassy taste. I loved it, and am glad to have plenty left over. Now onto the next green tea in the lineup! :)

My teeeeeeeeaaaaaaa haaaaaaassssssss arriiiiiiiiived! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Thank you Angel for these generous samples! All greens, and I wasn’t sure where to start, so I just picked one and went with it.

The smell of green tea usually bothers me. It always smells vegetal and I honestly don’t like that smell much. The scent was stronger steeping than it was dry, but I reminded myself that the scent doesn’t always mean that it will taste that way—and it didn’t!

I’m sipping it now as I type, actually, to ensure the flavours and feelings stay in my head. It does have a touch of the vegetal taste, but not the way the scent suggested. It is sweet and floral, and has a nutty taste—not too strong, and not bitter in any way. There is also a buttery mouth feel, and, since I added cream, it has a creamy taste and I love it.

It’s very light and yummy, and I’m really enjoying this. I have one more cupful in my teapot, so I’m off to finish this!

Second Cup Update

For my second cup I used less sugar and cream, and I just wanted to note that the nutty flavour is much more apparent now. I still love it, which surprises me, because “earthy” flavours usually are not my favourite. This tea is so good, it makes me so happy!

This is a backlog from Sunday. I had a friend over, who was not a big tea drinker, so I made this to share. Unfortunately, it’s the last I had, so now it is gone. I am very sad. :( I really love this tea, it has a beautiful, full jasmine flavour, while still being light and sweet. It’s a pretty colour, and this time, I added cream—non-dairy, powdered—and it was HEAVENLY. I didn’t think Jasmine tea with cream would be good, but oh my goodness, it’s phenomenal!

I’ve got to get more of this sooner than later or I will start having withdrawals. Seriously, I love this tea so much.

I definitely understeeped this one. It tastes a bit more like water than it does green tea. It does have a decent taste despite it being watered down, so I did enjoy it, but I’m going to have to try this one again sooner than later…

As always, thanks to Angel for sending this to me! It’s from an old sample, and I think I had drank this before, but had an unopened pouch of it, so thought, “Yep, time for green tea.”

I’ll write a better note tomorrow when I steep it better.
