drank Earl Grey Bella Luna by Adagio Teas

I remember having this once before and not really liking it so I kind of put it to the side for a while. Thought I’d give it another go and now I’m pretty pleased with the taste! A very nice Earl Grey.

drank Earl Bay Earl Grey by A Quarter to Tea

I thought this was an Earl Grey with bay leaves added, which seemed like an interesting combination. I’ve always thought bay leaves smelled a bit like tea. But after reading the description, it seems that it’s maybe something to do with the Green Bay Packers? I’m not sure what the relation is to hops and Bavarian cream since I don’t follow football, but the tea sure is good. The bergamot is light but present.

I can smell the rosemary and the sage – how unique! The rosemary stands out to me above all else. I’m not tasting the raspberry buy my sample is an older one so the fault likely lies with me. Overall, I’m enjoying the different flavors but not enough to make this a favorite.

Flavors: Herbaceous, Sage

Preparation

This tea has become an old favorite. It’s nice for those times when I want something but I’m not sure what it is and so I just grab this one off the top of the tea cabinet. It’s predictable but in a very good way. A fine, strong strawberry tea.

Flavors: Strawberry

I’ll admit, the name alone worried me. I like sweet potato but the thought of mixing sweet potato with raisins (not a fan) has put me against trying this one since it arrived in my mailbox. Opening the pouch today, I almost turned back. Strong, strong cinnamon (spicy Red Hot cinnamon – also not a favorite) and something that reminded me of a musty old house. But I figured that I like the flavor of some black teas with sweet potato and raisin notes so why not this?

Ehh, not great. Just that overpowering cinnamon. Nope, nope, nope.

Flavors: Cinnamon, Musty

200 °F / 93 °C 4 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

I drank this one so fast, I didn’t even have time to write a note. I loved it! After reading back over my last review of this tea, I have completely different feelings this time around. It may have been in the way it was prepared since my husband made this cup for me; perhaps he just did a better job than I did. I could taste the citrus, orange I guess, though still not specifically tangerine. It was such a delightful cup.

Bio

Lifetime student. Lover of books and paper and ink. Kitchen dweller. Aspiring herbalist, excessively proud cat lady, and tea fanatic. Thirty-something elder millennial. She/her.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Favorites
Any and all black teas, smoky teas, raspberry, strawberry, red fruits, bergamot, chai spices, floral teas, caramel/toffee, jasmine, rose, vanilla, peaches, plums, valerian root, cinnamon, cardamom

Not a huge fan
White teas, green teas, artificial sweeteners, sarsaparilla, licorice, lemongrass, lavender, hot hibiscus, hibiscus in black tea blends

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
