There isn’t anything spectacular or exciting about this blend. It’s a decent vanilla-flavored cup (though not vanilla bean or extract, more artificial vanilla). The base is bold enough for a good morning brew.

2022 Spring Tea Swap – Day 7

I was a bit distracted while drinking this one, but I know that I really liked it. There was a deep caramel note that was so delicious. I’ll do better with my next note!

2022 Spring Tea Swap – Day 6
From Emilie!

I pulled this one the other day and didn’t have a chance to drink it, so I’m having two teas from Emilie’s swap today. James loves the Beach Bellini blend from Teavana, so I’m thinking this might be similar. I don’t think Teavana’s version has rooibos though, but I could be wrong. I’ve never much cared for that one. It reminds me too much of those peach gummy candies my grandmother used to eat. I had too many as a child and can’t quite stomach them anymore. This tastes similar but with that woody quality from the rooibos. I think James will love this one, but it’s not for me unfortunately.

2022 Spring Tea Swap – Day 5
From Emilie!

I’ve never had a Chocolate Digestives biscuit but I feel like I read once that they are a less-sweet version of a chocolate cookie. Is that right? The Publix near me has a very small section of British items/ingredients. I’ll have to check next time I get groceries to see if they have some of these there to try. Anyway, this tea is definitely chocolatey, but there is also this flavor that I can’t quite place. I’m guessing it’s the biscuit flavor? It’s almost like toast. Not bread and not cookie, but definitely something similar. The aroma is very rich, but there’s something about the tea after steeping that I don’t love. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s certainly not a bad cup of tea, but it’s not something I’d keep coming back to.

My favorite digestive biscuits are McVities, which come in plain, chocolate frosted, or dark chocolate frosted varieties (the dark chocolate is my fav)

Martin Bednář

I remember this one! I had “only” the McVities that Mastress Alita mentions and it is indeed much less-sweet version of chocolate cookie, moreover usually only halfdipped in chocolate. I wish that ordering from UK won’t be such a hassle here…

Ooh, dark chocolate is my preference over milk so I would probably prefer those too. Just did a quick search on Instacart to see what I might be able to get my hands on. It looks like Publix has the dark chocolate variety, plus a few other brands that are tempting me. The Pim’s Raspberry biscuits (Lu brand, I think?) look delicious.

I’m sorry you aren’t able to order easily, Martin! I order a lot through igourmet.com, if that’s an option for you, but I just checked and McVities didn’t come up in a search.

Just a really nice rose-flavored black tea. I don’t taste anything fruity, but I’m not familiar with the flavor of lychee so perhaps I’m missing it. Either way, this is a comforting cup of flowers.

May 2022 → A tea with a creative blend of ingredients

The ingredients in this blend seem so odd together but it works. It’s smoky and minty and smells like rosemary (I think it’s actually pine). The last time I had this I commented that it tasted like a chai-spiced blend, but I don’t get that this time around. It’s so strange with all the individual flavors coming together in one cup, but it still manages to mesh together quite well.

Flavors: Evergreen, Mint, Smoked

May 2022 → A tea that reminds you of yourself

Growing up, I wasn’t ever really interested much in zodiac signs and astrology. In fact, it made me nervous even glancing at the horoscope column in my Seventeen magazine. Growing up as I did in a tiny southern baptist church, these things were frowned upon (to say the least). As an adult, my pastor would be properly appalled at me now with my curiosity about tarot and herbalism. All that to say, I don’t know much about the signs aside from the basics. I know that I am a Scorpio sun, Libra moon, and Libra rising. My birthday falls right on the cusp of Libra and Scorpio, and I tend to think of myself more as a Libra than a Scorpio. Maybe because my moon and rising signs are Libra. But I am sensitive and loyal and private. I also definitely feel the need to control every little detail around me. So it fits, for sure.

This tea is mostly a mix of chocolate and vanilla with a vague fruitiness coming through in the dry blend. It has good flavor, I’m enjoying it. I think this was a sample I received with an Adagio order. I don’t see myself purchasing more of it.

Flavors: Chocolate, Fruity, Vanilla

2022 Spring Tea Swap – Day 4
From Emilie!

This is so unique! I couldn’t place the aroma at first, but after cheating and looking at the ingredient list I definitely get tropical fruit vibes. I still have a bit more of this one to play around with, but if the rest is as good as this cup then I think I’ll pick some up with my next AU order.

This one’s a favorite. Having it today for no other reason than that. I think I used too much water because it’s tasting watered down unfortunately. Still good though.

Bio

Lifetime student. Lover of books and paper and ink. Kitchen dweller. Aspiring herbalist, excessively proud cat lady, and tea fanatic. Thirty-something elder millennial. She/her.

I love flavored black teas most of all, always with cream and honey. I enjoy floral and fruity teas, as well as flavored or scented ones. I’m not overly fond of green or white teas, but I’ve found a few that I enjoy.

I’m open to tea swaps and/or just sharing what’s in my tea cabinet! Please reach out if you see something I have that you’d like to try. I do my best to update my cupboard regularly.

Favorites
Any and all black teas, smoky teas, raspberry, strawberry, red fruits, bergamot, chai spices, floral teas, caramel/toffee, jasmine, rose, vanilla, peaches, plums, valerian root, cinnamon, cardamom

Not a huge fan
White teas, green teas, artificial sweeteners, sarsaparilla, licorice, lemongrass, lavender, hot hibiscus, hibiscus in black tea blends

Rating Scale

1-20: By far, one of the worst teas I’ve tasted. I most certainly will not finish my cup and will likely “gift” the rest to my sweet husband, James, who almost always enjoys the teas I dislike (and vice versa).

21-49: This tea is not good, but if I mix it with another tea or find another steeping method I might be able to finish it.

50-69: This one is just okay. I might drink it again if someone were to give it to me, but I probably won’t be buying more for myself.

70-79: This is a consistently good tea. It’s reliable but not necessarily special.

80-90: This one is a notch above the rest and I would gladly enjoy a cup of it any day of the week. I’ll likely be keeping this in my cupboard, but it isn’t one of my all-time favorites.

91-95: One small change and this tea would be perfect. I’ll definitely have a stash of this in my kitchen if you come over for tea.

96-100: No words can describe this tea. It’s an experience, an aha moment. Closed eyes, wide smile, encompassing warmth. Absolutely incredible. Perfect.
