149 Tasting Notes
I think this is the tea I tried in the Verdant Tea Shop? Someone correct me otherwise?
Anyway, I was actually a little let down with this tea. It had the nice floral tones (gardenia) and a nice creamy feel, but was a little too delicate. What really was the reason for my lack luster approach was when I tried to second brew it I got no taste at all. I ended up re-steeping for 4-5 mins and with not much results. Maybe my water had cooled too much, but wasn’t anywhere near the top 10 Tieguanyins I’ve had.
I really like the description of cacao nibs, as its an excellent way to describe it. Wheat grass blended with the cacao nibs. You get a faint bitterness, and a full mouth feel. Mild astrengency. The heaviness of the tea though leaves no doubt that this is an autumn picking. A good nuttiness throughout, not quite chestnut…maybe walnut?
I think after drinking this tea I have determined that I like spring picking more. This was a little too full on (though maybe perfect for the winter).
Preparation
Revising my review. I recently had a really bad Jasmine Pearls, and this made me appreciate this tea a little more!
The jasmine is actually acceptable, and while I don’t like it with a black tea base I can appreciate this tea for what it is, a good flavored black tea.
Preparation
Its not often I like flavored tea, but this is actually really good! A delicious slightly bitter taste makes this tea fairly accurately named.
I actually bought the tea for the aroma, and I am happy with the result. This is better than any ordinary “orange” flavored tea.
Preparation
This first flush Darjeeling is made in the lighter style of production. I disagree with what Orange Pekoe states, that the lighter colored leaves is a result of the time of the year, because it is actually a result of how long the leaves are left to oxidize for.
It is a good soft tea though. Subtle flavors of mango and other tropical fruits, with a backing of green bell peppers, and some slight peppercorns.
A very green cup of tea, but still worth drinking.
Preparation
This is a good example of Keemun teas. A lovely complexity rich in a subtle orchid like flavor. Really a good tea with a nice level of sweetness.

This is a lovely Yunnan, great taste that you can tell is distinct to the region. The leaves were really what I was expecting, and offered a delicious caramel taste.

When I ordered, I ordered just off of the name. Blood Orange Pu-Erh. Was not expecting the ginger at all, which might be why I am quite so critical.
This tea ended up tasting like a Chai. Maybe I got the end of the can where all of the ginger had settled, but I could not taste any of the other ingredients.
Preparation
This tea was the other highlight of my trip to San Fran. Its not often you find a really good high quality black tea, and Red Ruby delivery. I was able to brew around 15 times in the gaiwan and it still held its flavor and color.
This is a lovely complex black tea with maraschino cherries, and a lovely wintergreen aroma/taste (that I often associate with the Uva region of Sri Lanka).
Well worth its money, this Red Ruby is much better than some black teas I’ve seen trying to pass for Sun Moon Lake.
