drank Oo Nutty Delight by Tealux
286 tasting notes

I got this lovely sample from the extremely generous Dexter3657 – Thank You so much for this tasty treat.

This tea is not as strongly spiced as the dry leaf smell would indicate. The spices are light and complements the nutty earthiness that this tea offers.

I really enjoyed this tea, despite the spices being a little on the light side for my preference.

The generous JustJames sent me a sample package of Verdant…THANK YOU!!!

I was a little intimidated by the Verdant tea…I didn’t want to mess it up, so I had delayed a little bit before opening any of the packets. I thought to myself ‘stay on top of the water temp and steep time’. Forgot to stay on top of steep times, but I didn’t have any issues with the taste of this tea.

My first steeping, I got a strong floral note on my first few sips, and as the tea cooled, I found it to be deliciously nutty.

My second steeping I found the rocky/mineral taste.

Third steeping was so deliciously creamy and sweet. This was my favourite steeping of the three.

I can probably get another steeping out of the leaves, which I will attempt a little later.

This is really delicious tea.

Fuzzy_Peachkin

This one is definitely forgiving of steep time. :-)

I had a feeling it might, and that’s why I chose this one first.

Dexter

Excellent, glad you enjoyed it. I have some of this but haven’t tried it yet. Nice to hear others enjoying it.

JustJames

so glad you like this! i have yet to be able to mess up a verdant tea, lol. i am not as diligent as you are with my steep times… i always forget. and verdant hasn’t bittenme for it yet.

scribbles

I forget a lot to check my steep times and quite often have to estimate (as I did with the second steeping of this one) :)

drank White Blueberry by Adagio Teas
286 tasting notes

My thanks to Short Sorceress for a sample of this tea.

This a very slight flavoured tea. The blueberry taste is evident, but barely there. The white tea base provides a light, fresh backdrop to the subtle fruit flavour. This is a refreshing change to the strong and tart fruit flavoured tea’s that I currently own.

Unlike Short Sorceress, I did find a blueberry floating in my tea, and I promptly ate it.

This is one of the very first tea’s I bought when I began my tea journey. I was ‘talked into’ 150 g’s of this, and now I’m down to my last cup of it.

I wasn’t too impressed with the tea when I first tried it, I thought it was a little boring; but that’s because my friend, who started me on this tea journey had purchased me 2 flavoured tea’s that I adored.

Now a few months into my tea experience, I can appreciate the subtle nuttiness that flavours this tea. It is a smooth with a light earthy flavour. I don’t recall having this tea ever going bitter when steeped a little too long. It steeps really twice, and sometimes I got 3 steeps out of it if I was careful with brew times.

205 °F / 96 °C 3 min, 0 sec

drank Tulsi Chai by Fusion Teas
286 tasting notes

This tea came my way from an amazing swap with Dexter3657…thank you!

In my limited tea experience, I am finding that I really like these spicy chai tea’s, and this one is no exception.

The dry leaf smells strongly of ginger (in a good way). The brewed scent doesn’t have the strong ginger scent, but it comes through in taste. The ginger isn’t overpowering, but I definitely get the spicy ginger flavour from this tea. It is very tasty with a perfect balance of spicy ginger.

Nxtdoor

I so did not dig this tea. I didn’t even write a note because other than “bleah” I couldn’t articulate much. I decided to give it a few days, maybe I wasn’t in the mood, an go again,

scribbles

I can see why this tea might not be suited to everyone’s taste. There is something that I can’t pinpoint interacting with the ginger.

Dexter

This was “weird” for me too. I just thought that “weird” was the tulsi, I didn’t hate it, but it’s not my favorite chai blend.

On opening the bag, the dry leaf does smell like lychee. I don’t smell too much of the peach. I have to admit, I love lychee in syrup, but I didn’t imagine the taste translating well in a tea, but this was ok.

The black tea base wasn’t so strong that it didn’t allow the lychee note to come through. I found the lychee flavour as a lingering aftertaste. The next time I brew this one up, I’ll add sweetener to see if more lychee flavour will come out.

Thank you JustJames for sending me this one to sample!

I hate it when life gets in the way of tea drinking, and I have a lot to catch up on…my own tea purchases, as well as from some amazing swaps.

While this tea is called a pu’erh, it is more reminiscent of a white tea. The taste reminds me of White Peony. I don’t mind. I like white, and go to it when I don’t want heavy or strong flavour.

On opening the bag, the dry scent is fresh. Brewed, the taste is light, fresh and slightly grassy. Not bad, but since there are so many other tea’s to try, I wouldn’t find this one a mandatory staple.

JustJames

i agree with your assessment of this one and will add that it’s the kindof tea i’d go to when i’m feeling off and don’t want something robust. i do miss the normal nuttiness of puerh, though.

scribbles

I agree, it doesn’t have that earthy, nuttiness normally associated with pu’erhs.

Dexter

Hmmmmm interesting, this is on my Tealux wish list. I’ve had another tea that was what I thought of as a white pu’erh, but it had some of the pu’erh earthiness to it – subtle but it was there. I thought this would be similar.

JustJames

i’ll share some with you, if you like Dexter3659.

Dexter

Thanks James, really appreciate it but I’m going to place a Tealux order soon (this weekend – take advantage of the sale?) and I’ll just get a sample size of it. Love that Tealux has several different size options. Thanks anyway!!
I’m in the process of restocking my cupboard, wouldn’t be much fun choosing something to swap for right now, hit me up again sometime when I have lots of options for you. :))

scribbles

Saw the sale…debating…I know I shouldn’t…

Dexter

OH I KNOW I SHOULDN’T!!!! I have SIX packages in the mail heading my way (swaps and orders) – have been out of control. Then part of me thinks, you’ve blown the budget already, what’s one more order. They also have a mug I really want….. Still thinking about it, but I know I will place an order soon.

This tea came my way from a swap with JustJames…thank you JustJames!

The dry smell is deliciously chocolate. I usually am not a huge fan of chocolate tea’s, but his one was pretty good.

For me the significant note of the brewed was nutty, with a lingering cocoa after-taste. I drank it black, but next brew I may bump it with cream and sweetener and see if that pulls out the chocolate more.

A tasty tea that I am grateful to have sampled.

JustJames

yay! so glad it arrived! i am picky about tea and chocolate too, lol, but this one i like!

Aimee Popovacki

this sounds good … i find chocolate teas quite weak usually.. i just tried the cococaramel salted one and chocolate bananas foster from teavana…. not the strongest!

JustJames

the cococaramel just gave me sugar but no overtone, haven’t tried the bananas foster. have you tried adding azteca fire to anything? it’s very good on top of a black and i usually cram a tablespoon into the tea ball (it’s a herbal).

Aimee Popovacki

i’ve never tried azteca fire.. i’m going home to visit in ontario, so i’ll pick it up while i’m there! .. the bananas foster is very sweet…. its nice, but was like a sweeter, weaker version of davids tea’s banana dream pie.

JustJames

and i’m really picky about bananas in tea… well, in general i guess, lol. still if you don’t try new things you never grow!

Aimee Popovacki

lol very true

drank Honeydew Mate by DAVIDsTEA
286 tasting notes

I am on tea drinking mission, as I have many tea’s to sample and rate not only from swaps, but also from my own stash – so many that I have not yet logged on virtual cupboard.

This one came my from a swap with Aimee – that you so much!!

The first time I tried this tea, I held off rating it, because I didn’t pull the melon flavour from it. I don’t know what I did wrong the last time, but I know from personal habits, I sometimes don’t use enough leaf, and put in too much water. This time I intentionally used a smaller cup and added more leaf. Now I taste the melon.

As a hot beverage it is ok. I taste the melon, and a little bit of the bubble gum after taste that has been mentioned in other tasting notes.

I think this tea will probably shine iced or cold brewed which is my next mission for this tea.

Thank you so much to Dexter3657 for this YUMMY tea!

I love coconut, cheesecake and honeybush! This is really creamy and very tasty! I love that bit of tang that cheesecake offers, and is also found in this tea. This is very easy, smooth slurping. YUM!

My tea journey started in 2012, when a friend gifted me some loose leaf. I guess she thought I was drinking too much coffee. Blown away by the amazing flavours I immediately embraced the loose leaf tea. I still drink coffee, but my main choice of beverage is now tea.

My tea preferences are blacks, pu’erhs, oolongs and greens.
