drank Vanilla Plantation by Silk Road
286 tasting notes

Thank you JustJames for a sample tin of this lovely tea! I am liking it. But I am a fan of vanilla.

This is smooth, silky, and creamy. The vanilla adds a touch of sweetness, but not too much. The vanilla is not over-powering, but definitely coming through in flavour.

There’s another tea I have stashed away somewhere in the house that is also a vanilla black tea…I think I prefer this one…the other was a little too subtle for my liking. This one from Silk Road has stronger vanilla flavour which works for me.

Dexter

You sent me a really nice black bourbon vanilla from Steeped and Infused…….

scribbles

I have to find it and give it another go…I recall it being a little to subtle…

Dexter

LOL that’s probably why I liked it, not usually a huge vanilla fan. If it was too subtle for you it was probably perfect for me. :))

JustJames

YAY! i get brownie points…. we should create a tea named that! lol.

scribbles

Brownie points tea…hmmm, now you’ve got me thinking of chocolate teas :D

JustJames

silk road has a famous one of those as well! lol. next swap maybe….

drank Pu-erh Coconut Cacao by Tealux
286 tasting notes

This one came my way from the ever generous Dexter3657.

This is pretty good. Very creamy from the coconut, with a hint of cocoa. I’m not getting any earthiness that can accompany pu’erhs, this is just a smooth, easy sipping tea.

I’m really liking the Tealux pu’erhs, and this one is no exception.

I had this tea this morning, and finally found a chance to log in to do a tasting note.

From my recall this is absolutely delish. I remember notes of the oolong…mineral, but also the roasty, toasty coconut. I can’t believe I left this one for so long, I think it will become a staple.

I have another coconut oolong in my stash, but I think this one is superior. Will have to re-visit other to compare.

While I was driving to do my weekend errands I still had roasted coconut on my tongue 20 minutes after drinking cup. Not a bad thing.

I bought this tea specifically to cold brew, although I will try it hot eventually. Just as soon as this heat wave lets up. It has been a brutally hot week.

As a cold brew this isn’t bad, but I didn’t get all the flavours that the name suggests. I tasted spice, so I felt like I was drinking a cold chai-type beverage, which was actaully pretty good. But, I didn’t taste any plum. Maybe it needs to hot brewed then iced to pull out the plum taste.

This tea did give me the idea to try some other tea’s that are spiced as a cold brew to see how that works out.

drank Lychee Peach by Tealyra
286 tasting notes

It is stinking hot in TO again, and it ain’t gonna let up ‘til the weekend apparently, so I’ll be drinking a lot of cold brews (tea and other brews) in the next few days.

This comes across quite floral when cold brewed, with a hint of lychee after-taste. I don’t really like floral tea’s, but it so freaking humid, that I don’t care. It’s cold. No peach flavour comes in the cold brew. It’s drinkable, and if the extreme heat keeps up, I’ll probably finish this by the end of the week.

Thanks again to JustJames for this sample.

drank Sweet Velvet Fog by iHeartTeas
286 tasting notes

I finally opened one of my tea’s from iheart teas. I keep looking at all the tea’s I have stashed in my cupboards, and keep thinking, I should probably slurp those up before opening a new bag. I couldn’t resist.

There is a slight astringency to this tea. I may have infused a tad longer than I should have. But the light notes of caramel and vanilla still come through. This is not overly sweet like other caramel tea’s I have tried. Next brew I will add some type of sweetener to see if I can pull out more of the vanilla and caramel.

drank Coffee Pu'erh by DAVIDsTEA
286 tasting notes

I probably chose a bad time to drink this tea…it’s late evening, but I decided to go for it anyway, and I’m glad I did.

The brewed aroma of this tea smells just like my morning cup of java, a rich and robust aroma. The brew itself looks like coffee.

Ahhh, the first sip was glorious creamy, caramel coffee. This is good. It may not replace my morning coffee (I need that java jolt), but it definitely can replace the mid-morning cup. I just may have to buy some of this to keep at work.

Thanks to the generous Dexter3657 for a sample of this brew!! YUM!!

Dexter

Glad you like it. I LOVE this tea. Even with all the amazing straight pu’erhs I’ve tried lately, there is a place for this in my cupboard.

scribbles

I love the coffee aroma and taste.

I got this tea in a fantastic swap with Dexter3657 – thank you for your generosity!!

So far I’ve done two steeping of this, and I’m thinking I can get a couple more out of the leaves.

This is quite tasty. It has a toasted mineral quality that it easy on the palate. These roasted/toasted oolongs have a comfort aspect that make them so enjoyable.

jakefolk

Hey scribbles does your tung ting actually look like a balled oolong as the picture suggests? I ordered some from tealux and it looks more like a dancong wirey brown leaf. I think they sent me the wrong tea even though it is marked as the tung ting

scribbles

Hi…my sample looks like the photo…balled oolong. Hope they fix that for you soon.

I got this tea from JustJames quite some time ago – thank you!!

I thought I would try this one as a hot and cold brew. I messed up. I didn’t have enough leaf to do both. The hot brew had a slight tartness to it, but it wasn’t overpowering. The cold brew didn’t work out at all – but it was completely my fault.

I can’t properly review or rate this tea, ’cos I messed up. :(

JustJames

oh no! i did that with a sample from 52teas. sigh.

JustJames

wait, wait…. you can do a cold steep with them still….. that stuff was high test. it should work. maybe add a bit of another tea if you’re worried about strength?

scribbles

Too late. Leaf is used up :( sighs. Lesson learned.

JustJames

we need a tardis. then all would be right with the world.

I brewed this one up not knowing the ingredient list…I got this from the extremely generous JustJames, and am now getting around to sample it. The brewed aroma to me smell like a deep, rich, spicy apple pie. Then I saw the ingredient list and thought…yes, that makes sense.

This is a deep nutty taste that usually accompanies pu’erhs. There is a hint of cinnamon spice, and it is rich, smooth and creamy (I added creamer). This would be a great autumn type of tea, but I am enjoying it immensely now. I will purchase this one with my next Tealux order.

Thanks JustJames…delicious!!

Bio

My tea journey started in 2012, when a friend gifted me some loose leaf. I guess she thought I was drinking too much coffee. Blown away by the amazing flavours I immediately embraced the loose leaf tea. I still drink coffee, but my main choice of beverage is now tea.

My tea preferences are blacks, pu’erhs, oolongs and greens.
