15575 Tasting Notes
Had this late into the evening earlier in the week.
I was so tired though, and I downed this pretty quickly and without a whole lot of thought so unfortunately I can’t really say what it tasted like since I simply wasn’t paying attention. I mean, smooth is an obvious one because I definitely would have noticed had it been really bitter or astringent. I had picked it out because when I cracked open the package it just had this lovely woody aroma to the dry leaf, but I don’t even know if that translated into the cup or not.
Shrug.
Matcha shot from work a few days ago; I was feeling tired and needed a quick pick me up. This was very sweet and really maple syrup like in terms of, well, everything. Everything other than mouthfeel that is – it was too thin/not syrupy enough to actually be like maple syrup in that regard. Sort of made me want waffles…

I woke up with a killer migraine this morning and have yet to shake it, so I’m just drinking lots of refreshing, hydrating caffeine free teas right now in the hopes that it will help. Whether that will work or not remains to be seen. I thought this might be nice iced because it’s usually so mild, sweet and floral – but I’m just not into it at all. It is still floral, but in a way which I’ve not experienced with it before – it’s STRONG and kind of musty tasting? Couple that with a really intense straw/hot hay kind of note and it’s…
Not my cup of tea.
(Maybe I’m just in a bad mood because migraine though; I’ve not liked anything that I’ve drank today…)
Hot latte.
Very creamy and sweet with big emphasis on the white chocolate in the blend. I did make sure to get lots of white chocolate swirls though so that it would be extra creamy and rich. This caused a bit of melted white chocolate scumminess, but mostly the milk covers that up as far as texture goes, and the mountain of foam on top was also a strong aid to reduce this quality. The rose was present in the finish underneath the way of delicious white chocolate – medium(ish) bodied, and sweet while retaining that floral freshness. That’s the big thing – it’s a fresh rose sort of quality over a more artificial/chemical perfume sort of rose. Almost like a rose infused white hot chocolate.

Cold Brew!
So, initial plan here was to cold brew this one and then use the cold brew to make popsicles with but then I strained the tea and took a sip to see if it was the strength that I wanted. It was just all down hill from there; the popsicles never stood a chance! I ended up drinking the whole brew – it was just so sweet and tangy with a really perfect tropical passionfruit and apple/hibiscus flavour profile. I’m still sad we didn’t bring this back for the summer, but I stocked up last year which is why I still get to enjoy all of these brews!

Had this hot a few days ago with a little bit of honey.
Kind of an interesting cup; it’s got some malt to it and a pretty distinct muscatel/raisin sort of taste but a lot of the profile are notes that could easily be ascribed to a green tea; a grassy finish, some astringency/bite, and a smokey quality. Really, it sort of feels like it’s very carefully treading that line between green and black. Honey was a good choice though; it helped with the astringency and fleeting notes of bitterness.
Cold Brew!
This was one of the eight throwback teas that DT brought back for their ten year anniversary collection; I’m not upset to see it back but I also don’t understand why it was selected either. It’s a good enough blend, but there have been SO MANY fruity teas that could have been chosen instead and it feels like a bit of a wasted opportunity to bring something back that was so recently released. Plus, if you wanted a recent fruity tea then I think something like Sour Watermelon would have been a better choice – we don’t carry anything similar to it currently, and I think it was arguably more popular overall from last year…
Just my opinion, though.
As a cold brew, this was ok – pretty sweet and definitely really fruity. It was more weighted towards both the orange and pineapple notes than I remember it being last year: not nearly so much raspberry/berry notes in general. Had a pleasant tangyness to it as well from the citrus combo and the hibby in the blend. Not something that I’m going to need in bulk though…

Sipdown (628)!
Finished off as an iced tea, but I think I underestimated the amount of leaf I had left because this definitely tasted a little weak compared to the last time I had tried it – not as sweet or juicy in the apple department. However, still pleasantly strong clove and cinnamon notes so that was still a win overall. I just would have enjoyed that strong clove flavour paired with that same apple note from before. Makes me feel like this tea is a touch wishywashy…
Iced Tea Sipdown (629)!
Unfortunately, this wasn’t really a shining example of how good this tea can taste. Instead of the usual sweet/ripe mixed berry profile this one tasted slightly bitter and was also very astringent; combine that with the fact that the cranberry was the strongest berry flavour and that equals a pretty dry/tart and mildly unpleasant cranberry black tea.
Noooppppeeee…
Sipdown (630)!
Thanks VariaTEA for the share!
I was hoping that this might be something similar to Butiki’s eggnog green tea blend, but I found this very lacking in flavour. That meant that while it wasn’t really good it also wasn’t really bad either. Just sort of… there? It was a little disappointing, but definitely better than it tasting poorly.
