6444 Tasting Notes
Got more smoothie mix so I whipped some of this up with banana and strawberry. The crime brûlée added some sweetness but really not much else. This is another I probably won’t be reordering but it was fun to try and could potentially be great at a higher flavouring level.
So I am very confused because for some reason, I am getting chocolate notes in this cup. Chocolate and peaches. I think that perhaps the base and yogurt creaminess are combining together in a taste reminiscent of chocolate while the peach flavor is shining independent of the chocolate. The other possibility is the Chocolate Rocket stored in the same envelope as this blend might have contaminated the tea. Whatever the reason the tea I am having now is weird but still pleasant enough. The last of this has been set up to cold brew for later since DAVIDs recommends having it cold so we will see how that goes. Thank you Roswell Strange for the opportunity to try this tea, especially since it is no longer available and I know how you love it. Your generosity is always appreciated :)
Strawberry? Check. Cream? Check. Slightly distracting black base? Unfortunately, check. I can see the potential in this as all the flavors are there but I find the black is competing for center stage as opposed to just being a foundation for the strawberry cream goodness. Consequently, I get notes of strawberry and notes of creaminess but it is all muted by the base. Perhaps some tweaking can correct that issue. Thankfully, Amariel was generous enough to send me a large sample that I have some more to play around with so thank you Amariel for the chance to try this tea :).
Thank you Amariel for sending this my way but unfortunately I am just not enjoying this as much as I hoped I would. I am finding it really quite bland in comparison to other banana teas I have had in the past while simultaneously finding it rather thick as well. I just find myself wanting more rich flavours and less dense base. I have about 1 cup worth of leaf left so perhaps with some tweaking, I will be able to get more from this tea but for now, I am pretty underwhelmed. Oh we’ll, can’t love them all. Nonetheless, I am grateful for the chance to try it out.
So a white that can be brewed at boiling temps (well just below boiling) is my kind of white and this is definitely one of those teas. It brews at 94C for 4 minutes and yet there is no bitterness to be found. Just creamy frosting deliciousness. Why was this discontinued?! It is a tasty, tasty tea that I am super grateful to Amariel for sharing.
It is sweet but not too sweet with a nice buttery creaminess. Meanwhile, it is simultaneously light and fluffy which is unusual for a DAVIDs tea (as I have found many tend to go to the thick/oily side). And there is a nice hint of mango fruitiness that pairs beautifully with the osmanthus which is fresh, clean, and slightly nutty. Even the chamomile is present, though not offensive in this blend as I find it really helps to highlight all the flavors and blends beautifully to create one amazing tea. Seriously, thank you Amariel for sharing!!
ETA: I just got in trouble with my sister over this tea because I gave her, someone who really has no interest in tea, a sip and when she told me it was tasty I was shocked and told her “of course you would like a discontinued blend” to which she told me “why would I give her something she liked if she can’t have it again”…oops :P
Try this one with milk. I know, I know, it’s a white tea….but it is actually really good with milk. I wish it was still around. It’s still one of my top faves. That was my concern with sending you the rest, because it’s discontinued. But in the end, I felt like you should at least try it, and there was a decent mount left, I think.
That could be good. I will do so and I appreciate the chance to try it, even if I can’t get it anymore :(
In the end, I figured I’d had enough of it and wanted to share what was left. And I’m glad I did. Mango Lassi has a similar taste, and perhaps mixed with white tea, might recreate this, but I have not tried it yet.
It is weird because I hated Mango Lassi but really liked this, though I can see where you would draw comparisons.
Sipdown!!
Thank you Roswell Strange for sending this my way to help me with my new project of trying straight blacks. So far, Yunnan Sourcing has been a success as I have enjoyed this and the other I have tried. This one is malty and smooth with notes of rich chocolate and sweet vanilla. There is also a bit of smoke and some earthiness for a complex but very pleasant cup. Very, very nice :)
When it comes to this matcha, delicate is just far too subtle. I am having it tonight combined with a chocolate smoothie mix and I am getting nothing from it at all except for a hint of sweetness here and there. This is probably not going to be a reorder for me but if it is, it will be at a higher flavoring level.
