Oh steepster friends…how I have missed you and your tasting notes. Saturday I scratched my eye at work which meant I couldn’t see out of the eye or look at a screen due to the light but now it is healing and I can return to all of you…and my beloved teas.

This is a tasty blueberry cuppa with just a drizzle of brown sugar. It is sweet and fruity and really nice. A great introduction back to my tea cupboard.

TeaBrat

glad your eye is doing better!

Ubacat

Glad it’s healing!

TeaLady441

Ouch. That sounds awful. :| Glad you’re doing better!

VariaTEA

Thanks guys. It definitely was not fun but I am well on my way to healing so yay!

drank Maple Sugar by DAVIDsTEA

More and more I notice the maple in this blend however, it is like a mediocre black tea with maple syrup added as opposed to a maple tea like Steam tea’s delicious maple tea. With that in mind, I could just add my own maple syrup to one of my better black teas making for a better version of this blend, especially as it won’t be loaded up with cinnamon. So although this isn’t a bad tea, it’s not something I feel the need to keep around. Although maybe I should because last time I attempted to add maple syrup to tea, it didn’t go so well.

OMGsrsly

That’s why you measure it, don’t pour straight from the bottle! ;)

VariaTEA

Hahaha I didn’t know what to measure…Sil said to add a little and I took that as I should add half the bottle. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time. It was not.

So I cut the steep time short, underleafed this, and poured it over ice. That helped tone down the cloying sweetness a bit but I still feel like this just isn’t for me. Oh well.

So my tea twin often talks about having matcha shaken in Milk To Go. I decided to try it out. I went to Dollarama and though I couldn’t find vanilla, I did find strawberry and decided to go with that, especially because I thought it would pair great with this matcha. I was right. It is a sweet strawberry banana smoothie and it is great. Thank you Roswell Strange for the idea.

Sami Kelsh

I love this idea so much!

So as a staples employee, working tonight was like working on Christmas, as in it aways crazy busy. When I finally got home, I decided to make a cup of tea and before even deciding what to make, I set it to boil because I knew I felt like having black tea. Anyways, as the kettle heated, I noticed a package on the table from my awesome tea twin and inside was this tea. Immediately, I made my decision and oh what a right decision it turned out to be.

The scent of this brewed cup is sort of buttery but the taste is coconutty pineapple deliciousness. It’s creamy and sweet from the coconut with an amazing pineapple tang to curb the sweetness from becoming cloying. It is really hitting the spot as many Camellia Sinensis teas tend to do so thank you Roswell Strange for this awesome midnight treat!

The spices are strong in this one. Pumpkin spice and cranberry. Nice but not anything mindblowing. Plus, I think DAVIDs really took Fall to heart because all their teas are pretty heavily spiced and I just don’t think I am ready to say goodbye to summer just yet.

Suziqzer

I concur… I’m not ready to let go of summer yet myself. Seems like we just got some nice hot temperatures and they are starting to sell mums… say what? When the weather cools down again, maybe I’ll be ready.. Maybe

Dustin

Suziqzer, I’ll give you all the hot weather you want from Texas with love! I’m so ready for the fall!

VariaTEA

It’s not so much the weather for me because I actually far prefer Fall weather. It’s more the summer teas I am not ready to part with – as in I have been enjoying the sweet and fruity blends and I don’t think I am quite in the mood for the heavy spice of Fall just yet.

Thank you Cavocorax for the chance to try this tea. It is enjoyable and pairs beautifully but milk but I think it is a touch too bold for my tastes so I don’t think this will be joining my cupboard anytime soon. Still, it was fun to try. 168.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
