drank Cinnamon Roll by Fusion Teas
6444 tasting notes

This is one of the teas that Veronica shared with me and I was very excited to try it. This would be my first fusion tea ever and with a name like “Cinnamon Roll”, I thought what could be bad? The answer is nothing is bad per se. I am definitely getting thick bread-y notes so they got the “roll” part down. There is also a sweetness that could be icing. However, when it comes to the “cinnamon”, I am finding that I am a bit underwhelmed. It is really lacking the bold and gooey cinnamon flavor of a real cinnamon bun which is leaving me quite disappointed. You never know unless you try, so thank you Veronica for letting me try this tea. I have enough for one more cup so hopefully I can bring the cinnamon out.

I was planning on making a tea from the swap package Veronica had sent but when I got to my tea stash, the envelope from OMGsrsly caught my eye. Since that packaged arrived first, I decided to grab samples from there instead. I looked for the teas that could be brewed as close to boiling as possible given that I am in the midst of studying for my last final of the semester (tonight at 6 pm) and did not want to wait for the water to cool. That meant I ended up with this one and Zhena’s Coconut Chai.

Interestingly enough, despite having a cup of spicy chai in one hand, all I could smell was the sweet raspberry coming from the cup in my other hand. I thought this tea would be flavor explosion but like so many other French teas that I have tried, it is more subtle. This is not to say that it is not flavorful, rather there are many flavors that slowly come to light throughout the sip. The first is the gentle sweetness of the raspberry that slowly turns into a more strawberry type flavor, followed again by the caramel sweetness to end off the sip. It is a very nice cup and I am sure I will have no problem getting through this sample. Thanks OMGsrsly for sharing some of this with me :)

:) Better thank Sil, too! I need to get more of this one.

Oh Sil, how is it even when the teas are not sent to me from you, you still manage to share your stash with me?!?! You are ever so generous :) Thank you both!!

drank Coconut Chai by Zhena's Gypsy Tea

I am not a huge lover of chais but this one had particularly positive reviews so I asked OMGsrsly if I could try some in a swap. I guess I thought the coconut would balance out the flavors or something but alas this does not seem to be the exception to the rule. It is not bad by any means, it would just seem that I am not a huge lover of the chai spice combination. Plus, I am not picking up on any coconut which makes me sad. Honestly, I think this is just me so I won’t be rating this one but I am glad to have tried it out. Thank you OMGsrsly for sending it my way.

drank Malted ChocoMaté by 52teas

Dexter3657 shared some of this with me months ago. I then got even more in the bestsellers sampler pack. Though I find it good, I am not THAT in love with it so I ended up sending the sampler to a friend and kept what Dexter sent me for myself.

This is not one I reach for often but when I do, it is always quite good. It is chocolate-y but when combined with the roasted mate, it comes off malty. So, basically what you would want in a tea called Malted ChocoMate. Thank you Dexter for the generous portion!!

drank Fruta Bomba by Teavana
6444 tasting notes

Last night my roommate decided she wanted to try cold brewing a green tea. She was searching through the CaesarsTeas when I told her we could make a tea from a different company if she liked. She was open to doing that but told me she only knows my CaesarsTeas because she was there when I bought them. I started telling her about all the different greens I had and then the swap package from MissB caught my eye. Immediately I knew Fruta Bomba was the perfect tea to try.

Turns out it was a great choice for a cold brew. There was a bit of a vegetal flavor from the base but mostly it was like drinking a refreshing and juicy fruit salad. It was actually so good that we finished the bottle and have already prepped another for later. Thank you MissB for sharing this with me :)

Hot, this tea was not bad. Cold? Well apparently all the flavors meld together and create a tea that both smells and tastes like liquefied weed. No one wants to drink that so this definitely got dumped.

Camellia Sinensis had this tea as a sampler the day my roommate went to buy me my Hanukkah gift. She really enjoyed it so ended up picking 25 g for herself. This morning while we were straining the cold brew teas she brewed up a bit so that I could try it. It was a very interesting flavor experience because for plain white tea it had a very nutty flavor profile. There was no bitterness, no floral taste, and it was by no means a “delicate” flavor. I was actually quite impressed and it made for a good start to the morning.

Yum, I’ve quite enjoyed some of the Ceylon whites I’ve had.

VariaTEA

It was definitely not what I expected from a white but it was very good nonetheless

I am getting through this sample from Dexter3657 slowly but surely. After this I have about two cups left. I liked it but it is not necessarily my favorite. It is custard-y sweet with a bit of sour from the rhubarb. Very pleasant so I don’t think it will be too hard to get through what is left.

drank Rooibos Earl Grey by CaesarsTea

This cup always smells so rooibosy so it is always pretty shocking when it tastes mostly like earl grey. There is a hint of rooibos but this is mostly just great bergamot flavor.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
