6444 Tasting Notes
I had been wanting to cold brew a rooibos tea for a while and I believe it was Sil who mentioned that this was good as a cold brew. Having tried it, I can now confidently say she was right. This has all the delicious lemon chiffon taste with absolutely no hint of rooibos that I occasionally get when brewed hot. I think I will try cold brewing Lime Chiffon next. Not at all a bad introduction to the wonders of cold brewed rooibos.
Preparation
I had the Belgium Chocolate that I bought in MissB’s stash sale earlier today but I completely forgot to log it. I think I sort of just drank it absentmindedly while doing some work which is sad because my matchas are always such a tasty part of my day.
Luckily I get to have two so I am having this one, the other matcha I bought in MissB’s stash sale. I actually bought some of this from Red Leaf Tea directly but that is trapped in my fridge in Florida until I can go and get it back. Until then, I have this to hold me over. It is really quite delicious. It is so creamy and adds a nice vanilla flavor to the milk. I don’t know how accurately it represents Bavarian Cream but it tastes good and I suppose that has to count for something.
Thank you MissB for sending this my way :)
ETA: So I looked up Bavarian Cream on wikipedia because I knew there was something more than just vanilla in this cup. It had almost a bit of tang, for lack of a better word. Turns out Bavarian Cream is flavored with liqueur and I think that is the other flavor I am getting. So I suppose this is a pretty aptly named matcha.
I wasn’t so sure on this one when I first got it, and without my realizing it, it quickly became one of my favourites.
At first, I thought it was just a vanilla and I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I was enjoying it more than the other vanilla tasting ones I had. Now I realize I like the tang. However, I have a tiny bit of an obsession with the caramel popcorn one and keep finding myself going for that and then having to fight it so I don’t run out.
Ahh temptation. I have only one matcha left in my cupboard now. I’ll have to start contemplating a new order in the next couple months.
Sipdown!! (219)
When I got around to brewing this cup, the water had cooled so I used the chance to get in another sipdown today. This is good but nothing special so now that it is gone it will most likely be forgotten. Though, it was a pleasant enough cup while it lasted and I am glad I got to try it. Thank you Veronica for sharing this with me :)
Preparation
Thank you Dexter3657 for giving me the opportunity to try this tea. This has been calling to me since I joined steepster. However, since I joined steepster and started exploring all sorts of tea, I think I learned that more times than not, 52 teas black blends will fall short of expectations. There are some exceptions to that rule but alas, this is not one of them.
Perhaps I am too hung up on the name but there is certainly no cheesecake in this tea. There is a thick black base with a sweetness that could be called caramel and a slight nuttiness that could be the pecan. I am not getting much chocolate though. Perhaps I need to play around with the steeping but this cup was not the turtle cheesecake deliciousness I was hoping for at all.
Preparation
I always hope for it all too. I gave up trying to search for specific notes with certain companies after a while.
I think the name is important. It sets an expectation in a way. That’s often why I’m so over the moon when the name is perfect for the tea.
Yeah. I find that even if a tea tastes good, if doesn’t live up to the name and the expectations that comes with that, I am not happy.
I agree with everything you are saying. It’s hard to find all the promised flavors in these blends. It’s still not all that’s promised, but I like this even lower water closer to 90C for 2.5 minutes… not promising anything, but maybe you might get a little more out of it. :))
Both Roswell Strange and Aimee Popovacki sent me some of this tea and I am actually really quite glad to have so much. This is really a tasty cup. It is distinctively apple but with a sort of caramel sweetness. Moreover, there is a butteriness that really works well in the cup. I am really enjoying this one so thank you Roswell Strange and Aimee Popovacki for sending this my way!
Preparation
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I got mine from Aimee too – so really, you could probably just thank her ;) I think I have a cup worth left – not looking forward to being out of it. I really, really liked it too.
Sipdown!! (well sort of as the last cup is being sent off to Courtney).
Thank you MissB for sharing this with me. I find that I often forget it but when I do finally remember to make a cup, I am always pleased with the taste. This has a great peach-apricot flavor with a hint of strawberry deliciousness right at the end of the sip. It really is a nice tea but for some reason, I just don’t think about it all that often.

Thank you Courtney for sending this my way but this tea has fallen victim to my dislike of oolong. I think I have FINALLY realized that more times than not, I don’t like pu’erh or oolong and so I think I have decided to stop trying them. I know this means I might miss out on something great but there is just so much tea in the world that I know I just can’t try them all.
As for this tea specifically, I really wanted to like it. If I could look past the oolong, I would say this is actually a pretty great representation of tiramisu. It is both creamy and cakey with a nice vanilla-coffee flavor. Alas, the first flavor that hit my tongue when I took a sip was oolong and that is just not for me. Though, I would say that anyone who doesn’t mind/likes oolong, would probably enjoy this cup.
Preparation
I fell in love with DAVIDs Pistachio Cream when I first tried it. Then, after just one cup, it was gone and no longer available in store. However, I was so excited when I saw Butiki had a Pistachio Ice Cream fix because I could replace my beloved Pistachio Cream with what I expected would be an even better version. So I picked this up in the BF sale having never tried it before.
This particular cup actually came to me from OMGsrsly (thank you for sharing!). She very generously sent some along in a swap which has given me the opportunity to try this tea without having to open the one I bought. I think this has worked out for the best because although I like this tea, I don’t like it as much as the DAVIDs version and since I have lots of that, I think this might be added to my stash sale.
This has a great pistachio flavor but it is more subtle than its DAVIDs counterpart. There is a slight creaminess but I find myself wanting more. Plus, it is a green tea which makes brewing a bit of a pain. I guess this one is just not for me.
Preparation
Sipdown!!
Don’t you hate when you are about to click on a tea and the drop down list just changes? It took me like three tries to finally get to this page but I did it so yay!
Anyways, this is a tasty, tasty white. Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing. It really comes off as though I am feasting on some delicious berries. It is sweet, but with just the right amount of berry tartness. The white base is the perfect match to highlight the mulberries and the flowers add almost a butterscotch note to the whole cup. I am sad all the leaf was gone with just one (very large) cup. You shall be missed Mulberry White, until we meet again.
Preparation
I was going to make boatsman but by the time I got to prepping the water had cooled so I took advantage and went for the white tea instead.
Haha – I have the advantage! Though, I want mine too :( I need more Pret a Portea for at night. I’ve also figured out that one travels well, too… I think I’ve asked you this before, but which did you get Sil?
I love the name of Assam Beast of the East. Not sure why, but it’s fun to say – just like “Boatsman”.
no tea tonight sigh maybe tomorrow..which will end up being Wednesday since it’ll likely get stuck in mail jail…. bah!
This was the one I had to try first! I’m so happy I heard about it before I finalized my cart, or I would have had to create a second follow quickly after.
I still might need to. I’m so impressed so far.
And I’m trying Beast of the East tomorrow – I liked the name as well.
Did you like it!? I think it’s fabulous! Right now, I’m most impatient about Sweet Helen, I think… And getting more Tea of Kings/Pret a Portea, but I still have a few cups left of each.
I have resisted an order so that I could try the teas that I was sent. Both were really tasty so it is oh so tempting but I am trying very hard to be good and not order more. Perhaps I should set a number and if I reach it, I can order more tea.
VariaTEA…don’t tell anyone that number or they’ll send you teas when you’re ALLLMOST there just to drive you bonkers with love :)
By the next time we swap, I should have received my RiverTea order, so maybe I can throw somethings in for you if they sound interesting. I’d love to hear your thoughts on The Tea of Kings.
And Roswell Strange, you know me so well…that was one I was looking at buying when I built my cart. I just realized I have built a lot of carts lately. haha. I guess I do have some self-control.
(May or may not be building another cart right now) I really like it. Best lychee black I’ve ever had, personally. I’d have sent you some in the last swap, but I’m down to about 2 cups – and I was being greedy.
:)
You are quite wise in the ways of tea, Sil. I polished this bottle off in no time.
just glad you found a happy spot with them :)
