Normally, I am a fan of black teas when I’m waking up for the day, but I got some samples from Teavivre last night and this smelled so incredible that it was all I could do to wait until morning. (Actually, it smells so incredible that I kept sniffing my teapot while waiting for my water to be ready. Seriously.)

Steeping mellows the scent a bit, of course, but it is still wonderful and jasminey. It brews to a beautiful golden color. The flavor is a bit mellower than I was expecting, but it’s very light and sweet and absolutely delicious. It kind of lingers, almost clinging to the tongue, in a really enjoyable way.

I was expecting to like this one since I’ve been on a massive jasmine kick (my flavors-to-seasons associations are a bit off, I think), but oh my gosh, I think I might be in love.

drank Mango by Harney & Sons
82 tasting notes

I’m trying to work my way through my piles and piles of samples.

Opening this, all I smell is mangos. And unlike some of the teas I’ve tried recently, the scent is not the least bit artificial. It made me really want an actual mango, and I was a little nervous to try the tea, for fear it wouldn’t be enough.

It’s not, quite, but it’s absolutely delicious and it did satisfy my craving. It tastes very juicy and fruity and wonderful and, like the scent, is not the least bit artificial. It would be great iced, and it’s fantastic hot, although I still really want to eat a mango now. I’m definitely adding a tin to my next Harney & Sons order.

None of these ingredients are pumpkin. How can this taste and smell so much like pumpkin pie filling when there is no pumpkin involved? I don’t get it.

Delicious, and a great way to wind down after a very, very long day. Getting in the Halloween spirit!

By no means am I any sort of expert, but if it doesn’t actually contain pumpkin could it be because the other flavours are flavours you associate strongly with pumpkin and your brain is simply filling in the blank? Bit liek how we dno’t hvae any porbmels raednig txet taht is msseed up so lnog as the fsrit and lsat ltteer are in the rghit palce? (and if that last bit makes you go ‘huh???’, my point is totally lost… :p )

Haha, that’s probably it. It’s really pumpkinny, though. I’m going to have to buy more because I have been carrying the tin around in my bag and drinking it everywhere.

Found this one at a local gourmet shop. I figured that for the price, and given the lovely, spicy aroma, even if it was bad it’d be useful for something.

Luckily, it’s not! It is a little weak, but with the big chunks of orange peel, I probably skimped on the leaves a bit, so I’ll reserve judgement on that count until the next cup. But the oranges and cloves! Both are strong enough to flavor this really nicely, but not overwhelming in the least; the orange is more sweet than citrusy, and the cloves give just a hint of spice that is really great. I think it could use a little more clove, but only a little, and I would probably eat them straight if I could so I’m not the best judge.

Not going to rate this until I have another cup, but I’m excited to try again. And to try the other two I got from the same shop!

Almost done with my pouch of this. It’s still just on the edge of overwhelmingly minty and the green tea base is still a little hidden, but I don’t even care. It tastes so light and clean, and is so soothing. I’ll be disappointed when it’s gone.

drank Almond by Adagio Teas

I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this one.

The tea itself is pretty solid. It’s not as sweet as I expected — more of a raw almond flavor than toasted almond — but I actually appreciate that. It blends pretty well with the tea to make a nicely flavored but sort of unexciting cup. Overall, it’s not bad, though.

BUT my problem comes from the scent. It smells like almond extract, but in an artificial way that is pretty off-putting. Steeping it mellowed the smell, but not nearly enough. It’s kind of ruining my enjoyment of the tea.

This is up there with Constant Comment in my sentimental journey of teas. Celestial Seasonings’ herbal teas got me through high school, and given my schedule, it was mostly Lemon Zinger in the morning and Sleepytime at night.

Even though I don’t drink it all that often anymore, I still always keep a box of Sleepytime around for nights when I do stupid things like drink caffeine at 2 in the morning. It’s soothing, with just the right amount of mint. Maybe it’s Pavlovian at this point, but just smelling it seems to settle my mind a bit and it actually does make me a little sleepy.

It’s not one of my favorite herbals, but it’s good and it’s familiar, and sometimes it’s just what I need. Tonight is one of those nights.

Found out one of the local gourmet cooking shops had the sachet tins, and finally picked one up for work. It was nice and calming to have a cup tonight as deadline approached.

In fact, I think I like this a bit more than I did on the first try, so I’m going to bump up the rating a tiny bit. It’s still sweet and yummy and flowery and amazing.

drank Paris by Harney & Sons

This will never stop being delicious. I drink a little bit almost every day before I have anything else. Sometimes I just keep drinking it instead of trying other stuff. And tonight, I’m drinking it at 2 a.m. because even though I know it will keep me awake, I just need some. Because I am addicted.

drank Hazelnut by Adagio Teas
82 tasting notes

Got this with the nut and spice sampler from Adagio, which I set aside and promptly forgot all about until I was digging for something sans caffeine last night. I popped the top on this to give it a smell, and the scent was so delicious I left it out on my counter last night to try first thing this morning.

I was a little worried it wouldn’t taste as good as it smells, but I gave it a shot anyway. It’s a tiny, tiny bit harsh, but it’s also sweet and nutty and pretty fantastic. It isn’t as creamy as it smells, but a little bit of milk would fix that, I’m sure. I don’t have any on hand right now to try, unfortunately.

I’ll definitely be adding a bit of this to my next order from Adagio.

I love tea! I still don’t know very much about it, though; I know what I like and what I don’t, and that’s about it.

Aside from tea (and food), I enjoy crafty stuff, writing, reading and playing with my cats.

About my ratings: I need to go through and redo them, because really I just sort of use that slider as a ranking system and the numbers for a lot of the teas I’ve done notes for don’t accurately reflect how I actually feel about them. :/
