drank Malted ChocoMaté by 52teas
1220 tasting notes

I’ve wanted to try this but I didn’t want to commit to a pouch. Good thing, because I’m not sure I like roasted mate too much. But I mean this is my second roasted one, most of the ones I’ve liked have been green. So I’ll give it at least a few more tries before I give up on it.

It smells good, it reminds me of coffee and Whoppers together. That might be pretty good. I let it steep for about 10 minutes and tried it. I wasn’t getting much other than mate, so I added cream and agave. Now it’s like warm chocolate milk, but it’s just not chocolatey enough for what I want right now. I’m actually not even sure why I just want chocolate so much. Guess I should just eat it instead, huh?

I think next time I’ll try a legitimate latte with it. I picked up like half a pound of cacao nibs today for like $1.25 so maybe I’ll throw a few more in too.

Thanks for this one, Will Work For Tea!

drank Peach Truffle by ESP Emporium
1220 tasting notes

I should be sick of peach by now. I mean I even ate one while waiting for this to cool.

Good thing this really lacked on the peach at least for me. It’s just chocolate. But artificial chocolate.

I can’t even take another sip.

The rest of this is definitely all yours, Kittenna. It seems you love it or you hate it but there’s only 3 other reviews. Mine makes it split.

Bleh. It might be the spices or something but this just is not for me.

Thanks brandy3392 for this nonetheless!

Kittenna

Hahahaha, thanks?! :P Always up for trying!

drank French Breakfast by Golden Moon Tea
1220 tasting notes

I haven’t slept at all. Just when I thought I was going to get some sleep, one of the two female test drivers in Formula 1 was in a freak accident, the car hit the transport truck while she was driving. And a witness said the helmet took the brunt of the impact, ambulance services say life-threatening injuries and I am trying to keep myself calm by drinking this but it just feels like it’s going to come back up.

I’m not really religious but if you are, please say a prayer for Maria de Villota, or at least keep her in your thoughts that she will be okay. All I can think about is how Dan Wheldon died in a freak accident last year and I’m just terrified.

The tea though, it’s helped ease things a bit. At this point it’s just something to comfort my nerves, but it’s pretty good anyway. I’ve never been much of a Ceylon fan but I could see myself drinking this every so often. Its smooth, there’s a little bit of a honey taste, but it just doesn’t stand out like other black teas do. But when you need tea for the sake of tea, this is a real winner.

Indigobloom

sending the best healthy vibes to your friend, she will pull through!

TeaBrat

sorry to hear that, I hope everything turns out ok. :(

Bonnie

I believe in God and in prayer. I pray that the love of God and this community will strengthen you too!

momo

The last anyone’s updated, she’s at the hospital and conscious so hopefully she is okay. It was the first time she even was getting to drive the car (in Formula 1 you need a superlicense to drive during practice and she doesn’t have one yet, so testing is all she can do) and after one test this happened. It just scared me so much since she is definitely one of my heroes and I want to see her do really well in a male-dominated sport.

TheTeaFairy

I hope she’ll be ok and up to the race track soon enough, sending good vibes…Always inspiring to see women make it in a man only discipline.

drank Black/Green Exotic Fruit by ZenTea
1220 tasting notes

Oops. I wish I had known there was almond flavor in this before I made it. I’ll at least give it a shot but I don’t know what it is about almond flavoring in tea that I just can’t stand. I love almonds by themselves, whatever else, but in tea I can’t stand the flavor.

In here it comes off a bit more like amaretto rather than the flavor I hated in DT’s Secret Weapon, but I still don’t like it. I wish I knew what these exotic fruits were, but such is what usually happens with ZenTea teas. The fruits are so exotic they are unknown. There’s orange, and there’s berry. Other than that I can’t specify even what berry. My first sip was almost raspberry, but raspberries aren’t very exotic.

Off to the swap list it goes too. Hopefully it can find a happy place to finish its life with someone who likes amaretto/marzipan flavors. For me it just sticks out way too much to be enjoyable. If it wasn’t for that, I’d enjoy this. I’m having it iced and other than that, it’s pretty good and refreshing.

Thanks for this, brandy3392

Oh, this is my 400th tasting note! Hooray!

I wanted to log this badly so sorry Frank, if you need to give it a legit description that isn’t just me copying the Cotton Candy one and changing it to bubblegum, lol

I followed the directions on the package for steeping the whole bag in 2 cups of water then pouring it into a pitcher and adding enough water to get it to 2 quarts. I love the packaging! I was surprised at the size of the bag in there.

At first I thought I might have let it steep a little too long because I had to heat up my jams to get them to actually set and of course both the water and the jam was ready at the same time. I let it cool off a bit more while I made some blueberry jam for something different (I am so mad, I have used the entire jar of pectin I bought. It said it’d make 22 jars. I’ve made 16! Now I need more to finish off the peaches!)

I tried it without agave at first, and my fears about oversteeping were negated; but it just wasn’t bubblegum sweet enough. Since I normally can’t chew gum without my jaw acting up, I love that bright pink, super sweet stuff. After agave, it was PERFECT. That is exactly what it tastes like if it included black tea. The base here is nice, because it lets the flavor shine through without being too astringent or anything else. But at the same time you know you’re drinking black tea. Awesome balance.

I’m glad I already ordered more of these, and I saved the bag to resteep again later on!

Bonnie Congratulations! Yep, always celebrate those milestones with bubblegum!
Missy

Yay for 400!

TeaBrat

congrats!

Dylan Oxford

Ah man, you beat me to reviewing one of these ;)

momo

Had I made a pitcher of iced tea last night, you would probably have been first!

Daisy Chubb

Yay happy 400!

TheTeaFairy

Congrats, and a lot more to come we all hope :-)

Kittenna

Yay, congrats!!! 500 is not far off now! :P

Southern Boy Teas

Finished adding the rest of the Southern Boy Teas line up to Steepster. Sorry for the delay. I always enjoy reading your reviews! Congrats on 400 tasting notes!

Southern Boy Teas

BTW, I’m glad you liked the packaging. I think next time we’re going to use some bags that are just a little bigger. It was just a bit of a squeeze to get those teabags in there. LOL. We made up 64 of each of the eight varieteas to start. I thought we would never get finished. :)

momo

Thank you everyone! Your comments made my day :D

I can imagine it was a bit difficult! I liked that it was nice and compact, without ever thinking “this has to make enough tea for a pitcher.” Easy to open, and then surprise, this whole bag fit in there!

I am already almost through half the pitcher because it’s that good ahhh.

Azzrian

CONGRATS!!! WOO HOO! I will nab some of this tea too!

SimplyJenW

Congrats to you, Amanda! I just got some of this today and can’t wait to try it.

CHAroma

Congratulations on reaching 400!!! Woot! :D

drank Southern Belle by DAVIDsTEA
1220 tasting notes

I tried making this cold, but it still is just so gross. It just tastes like a really bad, cheap alcohol drink. If the stevia and/or the yogurt drops just weren’t here this might not be so horrible. I don’t mind stevia most of the time but it just does not work in this tea.

I’m not even sure why I grabbed this tea since I’ve been making peach this and that all day and now it’s ruined the good taste of peach I had. I’ve made a syrup for soda and a peach rosemary jam so far, and next up is jalapeno and peach.

Onto the swap list this goes, and into the sink the rest of the glass goes.

Azzrian

jalapeno and peach OMG YUM!

momo

It’s waaaay spicy but so good, I’m hoping as the jam sets, the sugars bring it down a notch. I probably shouldn’t have followed the recipe for a jam that gets cooked since all mine are freezer jams so I don’t have to go through that boiling waterbath stuff.

drank Blueberry Jam Organic by DAVIDsTEA
1220 tasting notes

Oh jeez.

I made this iced since it’s like 101 and I really really really have been wanting to try it. It smelled like I was making jam! (That will be happening later, actually, but with peaches.)

It tastes like blueberries for sure! Not so much jam, since it’s not too sweet. I actually might add some sweetener to it. Though it is good like this, blueberry, and a nice slightly astringent base.

I just picked up some agave to give it a shot, at $3.69 it was worth trying. Now this is jam! This is summer in Georgia in a cup. I’m sure they don’t intend that as a Canadian company haha, but blueberry season here is soooo long that it totally is Georgia.

I am going to get more of this. And then I’m probably still going to get more of it. I want this fooooooorever!

Thanks for sending me this one in a swap, Will Work For Tea!

CHAroma

Oh man, I’m going to go make a cup of this right now!!

TheTeaFairy

glad you found your refreshment of choice on such a hot day, sounds yummy!

Kittenna

Soooooooo good!

drank Sencha Honeydew/Lemon by ESP Emporium
1220 tasting notes

Ugh why don’t teas stay added to your cupboard? I added this not even a day ago! I just got back from getting my growler filled up and I am not going back outside again until it’s under 100. So gross.

Before I start drinking that, since hardly walking causes profuse sweating (and you can’t even breathe because it is most definitely a ozone code purple day just like yesterday, it’s terrible). I cold steeped this last night and am now drinking it.

SO much better than I expected! It comes on strong with the lemon though upon taking a sip, almost like a more natural tasting green tea lemonade. It quickly mellows out with the honeydew mixing in. It’s a very refreshing combination. This is well done, I might give it a try hot if I don’t run out of it for iced tea this summer.

Neither fruit flavor tastes very artificial, which I also appreciate. As usual, I could do with a bit more of a green tea flavor but it did end up steeping a pretty long time, almost 17 hours.

Kittenna

What’s a growler?? Also, I feel like I didn’t see this in your cupboard yesterday and therefore didn’t put it on my list, which I totally would have because there’s honeydew in it!

Kittenna

And, what is ozone code purple?? I’m from Sask where air quality is pretty darn good unless there’s a nearby forest fire, and am only just getting used to smog advisories here in Ontario, but I haven’t heard of code purple.

momo

A growler is a refillable glass bottle for beer (or apparently iced coffee concentrate) so you can get it filled and bring it back, which is probably what I love most about them.
Code purple is basically the air sucks for everyone so don’t exert yourself outside. They said it was only going to be red yesterday which is bad enough, but I can seriously tell the air is bad. Here’s the little chart: http://www.air.dnr.state.ga.us/information/aqi.html
And it’s gross because you can just see it in the air, and the sky is this ugly grey. It’s actually clear outside but you’d have no idea.

momo

And I will add this to your list. I thought it was on there because I thought it was in my cupboard!

Kittenna

Ewww, yuck. That code purple looks like no fun! Stay inside!

The growler sounds interesting, although I wouldn’t purchase either of those things :D Refillable tea bottle, anyone?

And thanks for adding it! :D

CHAroma

OMG!!! I’m afraid to go to Georgia now!!! Holy crap! Why is the air so bad there?!

momo

Atlanta and all the cars/traffic in combination with gas prices going down. A city about 60 miles or so south of Atlanta is only code orange which has been most of the days here. When we went out, I was amazed at how many people were out and about, they aren’t helping whatsoever. Of course neither were we, but we were desperate to get this beer since it’s seasonal haha.

I am tempted to use it as a tea bottle since it’s far cheaper than a pitcher at $4, and Whole Foods always swaps it out for a new one when I go so they can I guess clean it even better.

CHAroma

Wow, I suppose that makes sense but it’s still scary. I’m glad I never looked up the air quality levels when I lived in LA. *Shiver.

I had been drinking this last night, I did a lazy cold steep on it. Some is still left so I’m eating a real peach with it. I saw something last night say refrigeration makes them less tasty, which I think is a lie. This one is tasty, really juicy, and oh they are so much better cold.

So anyway this tea is odd because it doesn’t have peach in it, it has “peach crunchy” according to the bag. It’s made from pureed peach, tangerine, strawberry juice, and carrot juice. It still pretty much tastes like peach though, maybe a lot sweeter. Then the other strawberry pieces also help with that. There’s a bit of a berry flavor, but it’s mostly peach.

This bag got pummeled pretty badly by UPS, who made it look like the box was dropkicked by an elephant. I’m confused because Teavana sends stuff UPS, and I’ve never gotten a box that looks so horrible, and they’ve dented a few of my DavidsTea boxes but not to the point of causing damage. Both of those companies ship from further away than ESP Emporium. It’s so weird. It seems there’s more dust than usual because of it, so I’ll really probably be sticking to cold steeping this one. It’s perfect for iced tea anyway.

Kittenna

Sounds tasty! Also, I don’t understand how packages get so badly damaged. My first box from Teavivre was half crunched (but the tea inside was so well packed it was ok), my second box from them was also a bit damaged, and I think my first box from Azzrian was damaged too, although it didn’t affect the contents.

CHAroma

You should complain to UPS. I’ve had worse problems with FedEx, who pretty much just sucks. UPS is usually good for me, and I think their customer service is definitely a lot better than FedEx.

momo

I do live where they’re HQ’d so I should try it, but one of my friends had to get a new transmission for her car shipped through UPS and they DROPPED IT and that ruined it, and then they refused to pay up with the insurance.
But I think I’ll give it a try, it’ll be funny if they’re rude and it’s not getting anywhere to just yell I KNOW WHERE YOU WORK and hang up.

CHAroma

If she has insurance on the package, they have a legal obligation to pay up. If she sued, she’d win. Hahaha, I love your idea! Classic!

momo

Yep, the inevitable “if you don’t do it, I’ll sue” got them to finally replace it. It was like the entire thing was a mess to begin with and they only made it worse!

Kittenna

Ahahahaha, I laughed at the “I KNOW WHERE YOU WORK” line too!

CHAroma

Man, I’m sorry to hear that. That really does suck. It’s surprising they didn’t take responsibility sooner, but at least it worked out in the end. Never give up!! Never surrender! :)

drank Mango Madness by DAVIDsTEA
1220 tasting notes

Yesterday was crazy. I got paid $125 to use a “perception analyzer” while listening to all NASCAR announcers on three networks, and then talk about them for an hour. Did I mention I really don’t like NASCAR? At least I was paid for it. But man, I was starving and drained when I got out of there.

So then today I got a bunch of stuff done in about an hour. Deposited the checks from last night, picked up tea, sent some off, and ..bought 25 pounds of peaches. I don’t know what I was thinking other than “oh my god, a box of peaches for $17.76? hauls away” Now I have less than 4 hours to write at least 2 more pages of a paper on Lyndon B Johnson so I’m finishing up my pitcher of this tea.

Since this has been sitting in my fridge a couple days now, it seems like a more floral flavor has come out in it. Of course that might also have to do with it getting a bit closer to room temperature, since my apartment is now 23 degrees cooler than it is outside. Gross! This seems extra refreshing because of the temperature now. Definitely glad I didn’t just judge this tea by how it tasted hot. It’s a cold steeping winner!

Mercuryhime

Peaches are awesome. You made the right choice. ;)
If nothing else, a masters degree teaches you how to bang out those formal papers.

TeaEqualsBliss

I’m not a NASCAR fan either :P

TheTeaFairy

Peaches and iced tea, heaven! Try to work on your paper and drink them teas!! P.S. not a fan of Nascar either, but my husband is! Sending him to the 2013 Daytona next February for his birthday, the ultimate gift!

momo

Ugh I wish this was more formal to write. It’s just basically like, rehash this article you read and tell me the strengths and weaknesses of the arguments.

I was so excited for the study too, they asked about interest in all these specific racing series so I thought it might be for one based about an hour away. But no.

TheTeaFairy – That is a really cool gift! Definitely the dream one to attend for a fan of NASCAR! I was down there for hockey games around the same time, I hope the weather is a lot better for the race next year!

Kittenna

Hahahaha, 25 pounds of peaches! Enjoy!! I can’t wait to U-Pick them in Niagara again this year! Hopefully I’ll manage to freeze some this time :D
