drank Green Rooibos by DAVIDsTEA
1186 tasting notes

Been meaning to give this a try for ages! Finally got a bit to test.

Dry smell is very green and leafy, a bit like a mild green tea to me. Wet leaves, i’m smelling something familiar but I can’t place it! I get some sugar, hmm maybe a bit like sugar and oats? It’s appealing, whatever it is :) oh and it’s a nice red color, which threw me off a bit since it’s call green rooibos lol. I steeped for 7 mins, might try a bit less next time though.

Now for taste, ooooh, how to describe this?! It’s like nothing I’ve had before! Definitely not really similar to red rooibos at all! I’m getting a very sugary aftertaste, and a fresh taste at the start! There’s something very vegetal in there as well, hmmm. I cannot classify it as any type of tea I’ve had previously..oddly, this reminds me of some bagged tea I had a longggg time ago, I think it was a black tea tho, and this definitely isn’t a black tea! Gah! It’s leaving me at a loss for words. I will just drink it up and have more later :)

Overall, it is really good, and soo different! Smooth and sugary and a hint of something..haha, terrible description, but I will definitely have some more of this in the future to try to decipher it!

YES! I’m finally going to write a review for this tea as I’ve bought some for me and am not mooching it from my mom :P. This tea is blissful!

Dry: the thing I love about this tea is how it always seems to change. One day it will smell really minty, the next cup more chamomile, others more floral. It’s always lovely, whatever one it smells like! Tonight it’s mostly chamomile with the mint residing in the background.

Wet smell: Again, this seems to vary depending on what’s in the leaves this time! Tonight there’s a lot of lemongrass and some hibiscus, along with that mint. Mmm, delicious!

The taste: Perfection. A lovely blend of florals with mint and a slight hint of chamomile. Getting quite a bit of hibiscuz tonight, maybe also a touch of the lemon. It’s a wee bit tart, but still delicious. I LOVE this tea!

Overall, this tea is the ultimate for before bed! I can’t wait to get an amazing sleep tonight! Been craving this since I had it at my mom’s a few weeks ago!! Finally have a massive tin of this to enjoy. I highly recommend this tea, as long as you are ok with florals and mint. Anyways, off to relax and sleep for me! :)

Well, here we go..I was stuck between buying this and another tea from Davids today..I was a bit apprehensive after reading the reviews on here, but hey, I like grapefruit, so I thought I’d give it a shot.

Dry smell is a bit citrusy, but very faint. Nothing overly exciting. Wet smell..hmmm, kind of odd. Like some kind of plant, and a bit of the grapefruit again, but mostly just a plant smell. I don’t know, I’m apprehensive of this..hoping it ends up being like when I tried The Splash..

So for taste, after steeping for 5 mins, it’s actually not bad. Not really outstanding, actually. Pretty mild, a bit of a tartness, mostly just herbs and a hint of grapefruit zest. It’s not overly exciting, and not terrible, which I am very grateful for. Never have had nettle tea before, and was worried it might make me break out in hives or something silly! Glad I was mistaken haha.

Overall, a mediocre cup, but drinkable. I just researched nettle leaves online, and found out they are supposed to be wonderful for seasonal allergies! I might have to save a bit of this until spring, because my allergies are horrendous then!

ETA: I liked it more when it was cooler :) very refreshing!

I was craving a coconut tea today, maybe because it’s been colder here, and I just feel like being wrapped in a warm, cozy, coconut bliss. Haha, anyways, I finally got this tea to test it out. Have had my eye on it for a month or so actually!

The dry smell is intensely coconut, quite desert smelling, I want coconut pudding now! The wet smell initially was coconut, but then suddenly seemed to change to more lavender with a hint of woodiness from the rooibos. Interesting! Pretty abrupt change if you ask me.

Now for the taste – I steeped for 5 mins, as I do for mostly all rooibos – and this is quite the cup! It’s smooth, and a nice lavender flavor right at the start, but the creamy coconut comes through fully in the aftertaste. Actually, afterwards pretty much all I taste is coconut! Also at the start, there’s a deep sort of mintiness, I think that might be the lavender and rooibos mixing. Regardless, this is a very unique cuppa, and seems super comforting, exactly what I was looking for today (upset tummy blah).

Overall, a very unique flavor. I think I like it, it’s so different from what I’ve been drinking lately though. I think it needs to grow on me a little bit, just a lot sweeter and richer than what I’m used to :)

Man oh man, tonight I am craving caffeine SOO BAD. A nice white tea would suffice..however, my stomach is still meh to caffeine lately, so I refrained…barely…and am drinking this tonight. It’s crazy windy and getting cold out, so might as well take some preventative measures!!

Still nice and minty and overall a decent cuppa :)

So after my caffeine hiatus, I am allowing myself one cup. Stomach, please behave! I have all this lovely Verdant tea that I NEED to try!!

Anyways, onto this lovely looking tea! Beautiful! There’s so many colors and flowers and beauty present in just the dry tea! I’m super excited to try this :D. Dry smell: very floral, which I am loving right now, as it’s cold and miserably raining outside, this is taking me back to summer! Also a touch of something woodsy in there, which I like.

Wet smell is still very floral, but very light. I’m picturing a mossy covered log with flowers growing all over the place in it! I steeped this for 2 mins at approximately 175-185 degrees.

Now for the taste, ohh this is soothing. So fresh and relaxing at the same time..there’s a lot of floral taste, with maybe a hint of something a bit spicy. The aftertaste is very smooth and creamy, mmm I get sugar and yes, a bit of the vanilla I think! Some honey and orchid present as it cools too! This is a very delicious tea, and for my first time having the Silver Buds Yabao, I like it. I’m excited to try the plain silver buds to distinguish the flavor!

Overall, this is very, very nice. Warming and calming. Just what I needed today (had a rough midterm, ugh). Will definitely have to try the winter blend, as I only have enough for one more cup from this sample pack :(

Bio

Hello all, I am an electrical engineer (read:NERD :D), who is a bit obsessed with tea! I discovered loose tea in 2011, DAVIDsTEA in 2012 and it took off from there. I really started drinking/enjoying tea because it was excellent to take to class in the morning and because I can’t handle coffee! (unless it’s a really good cappuccino or latte, or decent decaf haha)

I enjoy a variety of teas – current favorites being ripe and raw pu’erhs, chinese black teas and herbal/green rooibos blends. I also enjoy white, green, and oolong teas, although I tend to drink them more in the warmer months. I have also tried matcha and guayusa, but I don’t drink them too often as I am a bit sensitive to caffeine. As a result I don’t drink black teas as often as I used to, but in moderation I can still enjoy a wide variety of teas.

Oh, and I have a severe peanut allergy and try to avoid most other nuts, just to be safe. Limits my tea choices a bit, but that’s ok. However I have tried almonds and found out I can eat them, so I have been trying a few teas with them in them.

mrs.stenhouse12’s rating system
(as of 04/19/13)

95+: Absolute favorite, will try to always have it in stock, and when I don’t I pine over it!
90-94: Awesome teas, will probably purchase again a few times
80-89: Very good tea, may restock at some point
70-79: happy to have tried and will gladly finish, but not restock
60-69: not horrible, but not the best, will finish if I have some though
50-59: not a favorite, probably will have a tough time finishing the bag
-50: yuck. I don’t want to have it ever again.
