First of the new teas I bought today! In total, 7 new ones (3 new spring teas + Chai on Life + The Spice is Right + Mint to be, I haven’t been to DT yet this year haha so I had to try all the new ones since January haha) and I splurged on 2 new mugs for the boyfriend haha, I couldn’t decide so I got the glass octopus and the color changing lobster. Whichever one he likes less I will probably use occasionally, I want to get the shell teapot and bubble cups for myself, but not today haha maybe this weekend :D
Anyways, onto the new tea!! This one really intrigued me, I don’t think I’ve had a really grape like tea, I missed the champagne ones around new years, so this one really seemed interesting. The description on DT website also made me want to try this one first haha.
The dry smell is strongly grape, like that grape juice you have at least once when you are a kid haha, purple and sweet. To be honest, I am not the hugest fan of grapes/grape juice, but I really like wine, so I had to try this tea haha. I steeped with 175 degree water for around 3 minutes, and the liquor is a pale yellow and a bit fizzy right after steeping which I’ve found happens with flavored green teas. The smell has morphed into a tea smell from the grape juice, but it’s a grassy scent with lots of grape still, more as it cools down. I like the smell so far :)
As for the flavor, hmm this is interesting, it is much lighter than I expected, but the grape flavor is deep and rich still. The inital taste is green tea, then this dark, definitely purpley grape taste comes out and lasts into the aftertaste. It’s fresh and natural. It’s weird, but I find this a kind of cozy cup warm, although grape doesn’t seem like a good flavor for hot tea really, you picture it more iced. Ah well, I am enjoying this cup, we will have to see if I continue to enjoy the flavor longterm or if it’s a novelty that I tire of quickly. I also haven’t tried DT’s plain sencha, so I can’t comment on the quality of the base that much, but green was a nice choice for this tea in my opinion, not overpowering.
Overall, a tasty and refreshing first cup of the spring collection this year! Man what even was in the spring collection last year lol, all I remember is coconut oolong and how I didn’t really like it..I will have to look back haha. A good start to spring with this nice springlike cup! Oh, and I bet this would be tasty with grape vodka and ice haha…maybe a cocktail for when the weather warms up? :)
