1135 Tasting Notes
Good morning decaf Lady Grey…I had a lot of trouble getting up this morning, the middle of the week is always the worst, especially since I’ve had 2 days of daylight savings messing with my schedule. I also have a couple meetings today so did not want to overcaffeinate and be bouncing off the walls lol..so out comes this tea. Reliable and tasty, a perfect substitute for a full out black tea, with the addition of lavender to keep me calm and collected. I really do enjoy this tea! See previous notes :)
I haven’t done a review of this tea yet, but have had at least 3 cups since I purchased it last Wednesday. Simply put, I really like it! It reminds me of White Chocolate Frost but with less mint and a much more natural cream flavor from coconut rather than white chocolate. It will hopefully wake me up on this horrendous Monday that happens to have Daylight Savings attached to it. Ugh, up an hour early? Not my thing. Ugh well I will drink tea and work on stuff and hopefully not doze off at my desk. Yummy tea! I will do a more in depth review later, but it’s creamy, tasty, and good. And I could totally restock this one!
I finally picked up my Epicure order from my cousin at a surprise birthday party for him last night! Been looking forward to trying the 3 teas I ordered back in January :D this is actually the second one I’m trying, I tried Soothing earlier today but was not at my best to review it (bad headache) and I think I oversteeped it. Hopefully will review that one later tonight!
Anyways, this tea! I actually tried a sample of this at the Epicure party and quite liked it, so I ordered about 80g of it or something. It came in a little bag in a nice tin, so I dumped it into the tin immediately. The dry leaves are a colorful blend of flowers, so pretty! It smells minty and a bit floral.
I steeped it for around 5 to 6 minutes with boiling water, it’s recommended to brew for 5-7 minutes by the company. The liquor turns a nice light pink color from the hibiscus, and it smells again like mint and a variety of flowers again.
As for the flavor, this is quite a nice mild tea. The mint is present but not overpowering, and I taste some chamomile and yes, it’s a bit tart from the hibiscus. This actually reminds me a lot of Mother’s Little Helper, but not as much mint and more flowers and no valerian. It’s relaxing and summery and perfect for this ridiculously warm day we are having FINALLY! It actually feels like spring! Only sad part is that it will probably snow and be -30 again in a few weeks :( oh well, that’s AB! A tasty tea and I think I will have no trouble getting through this tin!
I tried Peaches & Cream this morning at work, but am going to write a detailed note on it later once I pay more attention to the cup lol. This review will be fast as well since I’ m at work.
The dry smell reminded me of something so familiar..I finally figured it out, Stormy Night! Yes, that cinnamon-coconut smell was in this one as well, I think it’s DT’s cinnamon that makes it unique and easy to pick out. I steeped for around 4 or 5 mins with 185 degree water (variable temp kettle at work :D ) and the steeped scent is also very cinnamony.
As for the flavor, there is quite a mix of things going on in here lol. Oh and to me, it brews up far too light to taste so darn spicy lol. This is a cinnamon heavy blend, I get the peppercorns in the aftertaste, and a bit of the pineapple in there as well. I think the ginger adds some heat to the peppercorns, but I’d like more ginger and less cinnamon lol. The coconut lends a slight creaminess overall and adds to it even tasting a bit like Stormy night lol, there must be a similar spice combo in that one.
Overall, this might be a bit too cinnamony for me to really like this chai, but it is still very drinkable and it is refreshing. I also like that it’s a lighter chai option without a black tea base, so if I need a spicy, warming tea fix, this one will do. I am going to let my mom try this one, I bet she will LOVE it haha. Happy to have tried, but currently I don’t think it’s in the restock list.
First of the new teas I bought today! In total, 7 new ones (3 new spring teas + Chai on Life + The Spice is Right + Mint to be, I haven’t been to DT yet this year haha so I had to try all the new ones since January haha) and I splurged on 2 new mugs for the boyfriend haha, I couldn’t decide so I got the glass octopus and the color changing lobster. Whichever one he likes less I will probably use occasionally, I want to get the shell teapot and bubble cups for myself, but not today haha maybe this weekend :D
Anyways, onto the new tea!! This one really intrigued me, I don’t think I’ve had a really grape like tea, I missed the champagne ones around new years, so this one really seemed interesting. The description on DT website also made me want to try this one first haha.
The dry smell is strongly grape, like that grape juice you have at least once when you are a kid haha, purple and sweet. To be honest, I am not the hugest fan of grapes/grape juice, but I really like wine, so I had to try this tea haha. I steeped with 175 degree water for around 3 minutes, and the liquor is a pale yellow and a bit fizzy right after steeping which I’ve found happens with flavored green teas. The smell has morphed into a tea smell from the grape juice, but it’s a grassy scent with lots of grape still, more as it cools down. I like the smell so far :)
As for the flavor, hmm this is interesting, it is much lighter than I expected, but the grape flavor is deep and rich still. The inital taste is green tea, then this dark, definitely purpley grape taste comes out and lasts into the aftertaste. It’s fresh and natural. It’s weird, but I find this a kind of cozy cup warm, although grape doesn’t seem like a good flavor for hot tea really, you picture it more iced. Ah well, I am enjoying this cup, we will have to see if I continue to enjoy the flavor longterm or if it’s a novelty that I tire of quickly. I also haven’t tried DT’s plain sencha, so I can’t comment on the quality of the base that much, but green was a nice choice for this tea in my opinion, not overpowering.
Overall, a tasty and refreshing first cup of the spring collection this year! Man what even was in the spring collection last year lol, all I remember is coconut oolong and how I didn’t really like it..I will have to look back haha. A good start to spring with this nice springlike cup! Oh, and I bet this would be tasty with grape vodka and ice haha…maybe a cocktail for when the weather warms up? :)
Flavors: Grapes, Grass
Ok, first of all, I MUST GET TO DAVIDSTEA!! I have been pining over the entire new teaware collection all morning and babbling about it at work haha (I’m sure everyone could care less lol, but I’m excited) and I am so excited to try the new teas as well! I am so happy there are two herbals and no nuts in them!!! :D :D :D
Anyways, onto the tea, I realized today that this one won’t be available anymore haha, so I thought I’d have a cup in my timolino this morning at work. It’s still tasty, but tastes much better when it’s not in a travel mug. Happy I stocked up on a bit before it was gone.
Now, let’s make these final 4 hours of work fly by so I can go get some mugs! And tea! And see previous notes on this one lol.
I had a ridiculously amazing cup of this last night before bed haha. I haven’t had it in ages, and it perfectly hit the spot while watching curling. Yes, I’m turning into a curling geek the past few years :D. Anyways, spicy, cozy, and it was almost caramelly. Perfect sendoff to sleep, which I wish I was back doing right now..it’s blizzarding here and I got up nice and early to shovel the sidewalk and by the time I finished it was covered in snow again :( and the roads are becoming horrendous. I’m actually the 3rd person at work today probably due to driving delays, I feel so early! Hence my early back log of this tea haha. I hope this comes back this fall! See previous notes :)
Final tea of the evening I think. Another loaded with good things, pu’erh, ginger and orange. My sense of taste is definitely returning, which is quite nice. Warm and fresh tonight, liking the orange in this. Haha, I still find it amusing that I used to dislike this tea so much, and recently (few months ago) restocked this to always have on hand in my cupboard lol. My palate definitely developed from when I started drinking tea! See previous notes on this one.
So since I’m sick, I decided to break out the best of the cold fighting fruits. I bought fresh ginger and lemons yesterday, chopped them up, squeezed a bit of extra lemon juice, steeped in a basket for 5 minutes, and added a spoonful of honey. The result is a crazily lemon tasting concoction, quite tart and tasting like it’s full of vitamin C. Feels like it will do my body good. Almost like that hot lemon cold medicine but without the drugs in it adding a chalkiness and knocking you out lol. I’m pleased with this blend, and hope it kicks this cold’s butt! It does feel like it’s fading a bit at least.
So I have internet and TV! So happy internet is back, and we haven’t had TV for 2 years so it’s nice to actually be able to watch hockey at home again :D this is my night, as I’m still sick and slept most of the day and am now cozy under a blanket with the game on and my cat to keep me company. Had a mini house-warming last night (will probably have another when the bf is back from working in the field) and it was good, 4 good friends, pizza, beers, and Pulp Fiction. Fun night, even with my cold.
But I digress haha, onto this tea! I had my first cup of this when I wasn’t sick and wasn’t the biggest fan, but had some today that was better and my sense of taste is returning so I’m happy about that. A caramelly, gingery chai, I think it’s the nutmeg in it that I’m not a fan of, but it was a decent warming cup of tea. I will have to do a more in depth note when I am not sick with limited senses haha. Not too bad though, just not my favorite chai.
