Having a cup of this before bed to compare to the Apple Custard in terms of creaminess..I think Apple Custard wins, although I still really enjoy the melding of flavors in this one. It’s mellow and smooth tonight, a nice blend of mango, chamomile and cream flavors. Yum. And now I am falling asleep haha, so last note for the evening! See previous notes on this tea :)

Having this again tonight lol. I am once again trying to limit my caffeine consumption, moreso in helping adjust to daylight savings time (the extra sleep is nice, but still messes with the circadian rhythm lol) and dealing with stress at work lol.

I tried a longer steeping time tonight and it is a bit better, although it mostly served to make the chamomile more noticeable in my opinion, yet also increase the creaminess a bit more. Now the vanilla is reminding me of Mango Lassi also by DavidsTea. Hmm, might have a cup of that after this actually haha. Happy I am enjoying this one, and definitely considering stocking up, if I remember to before it sells out for the season! See previous notes :)

Haha DST messed me up too.

I tried a sample of this in store and it was not bad, a bit weak for my tastes, so I picked up 25g to try it out at home, and have brewed a cup now. The dry smell is FANTASTIC – so creamy and appley, it just smells delicious. So much like a tasty dessert lol. I don’t think I’ve had apple custard ever, but I could see it smelling like this!

I steeped this for around 5 minutes with boiling water. The resulting liquor is a cloudy yellow color. And oh my gosh – the steeped smell is even better than the dry! Cream and apple, with some spiciness and a definite raisin smell too. Mmmm the kitchen smells good now too :)

As for the flavor, hmm…yeah, it is too light for me right now. The amazing aroma does not fully translate to the flavor. Don’t get me wrong, it is good..there is definitely chamomile, which almost seems weird in this blend since I don’t find it much in the scent, and there is the creamy aftertaste..but where is the depth that the smell has? I would like a bit more apple and raisins haha. Can’t really taste the coriander, maybe it will come out as the cup cools. But nonetheless, this is still quite tasty, just lighter than I expected.

Overall, a pretty darn tasty tea. I am unsure if I prefer this to Sweet Apple Cider, which I sadly did not get a chance to restock. This one is much creamier, but less apple. It is good, but I just want a bit more from it lol. Maybe with a longer steep time, or more leaf…darn these heavy fruit blends, makes it hard to know how much leaf to put in! But a nice chamomile blend :) as it cools, more creaminess is coming out, so maybe it just needs to cool off more…at least the chamomile and apple go well together!

I am back from picking up the new winter teas (minus the baklava one, as it has walnuts and pistachios) and am having this one first to help with raking leaves! In short, it’s a basic chai with lots of cinnamon until the aftertaste, which is lots of vanilla! Quite yummy, although the cinnamon /licorice make it a kind of weird combo mid sip. But i am pleased i can taste the vanilla! I steeped about 5 mins and added a bit of milk since it’s so dark lol. So far not bad, withholding rating until i try a few more cups. Now back to raking leaves!

First of all, a huge thank you to Angel at Teavivre for this free sample!! I am finally getting around to trying it. Today is a grey, kind of dull looking day here, so I wanted a tea that will give me some happy cha qi, so hopefully this hits the spot!!

I am brewing this in my gaiwan, and I don’t really know what parameters to use. I covered the bottom of my gaiwan (probably a few grams of tea? I don’t know) and did a 15s rinse with boiling water, then did a 15s steeping for the first one. Oh, the dry smell is quite green and nice, with that honey-hay note that I find in some white teas, particularly aged white tea cakes. The steeped aroma is quite light for the first one, a slight honey note and some fresh green scent.

As for the flavor, it is starting out quite light. Very much like an aged white to me, there is a bit of grassiness, a chewy hay-like note, and yes, a lingering sweetness. Mostly hay so far.

I made the second steep and when I opened the gaiwan, this amazing honey scent wafted out. I absolutely love that smell, it reminds me of the first aged white tea I had, sooo good. So after a 20s steep, the flavor is becoming more pronounced and green. There is a fresh, almost cooling sensation near the end of the sip. The honey aftertaste is still there, but I am having a tougher time tasting it due to the fact I am eating lunch with it haha (leftover vietnamese, actually goes quite well with this tea, but mutes some of the sweetness).

Overall, I am enjoying this tea so far. It is an inoffensive raw pu’erh, not too crazy, not many crazy flavors that some sheng can have, just enjoyable. Not a whole lot of that fuzzy tea drunk feeling (yet haha) but more of a slightly energizing, sinus opening experience. This one feels great for my allergies so far! One of the best ones yet! I feel a warm sense of energy, but am still relaxed. Kind of weird, but I’ll roll with it haha. My mood is also improving, and the sun is starting to come out, so it’s a good combo for feeling cheerier. I plan to drink a few more steeps of this tea, then toddle down to the nearby DavidsTea and try to snag some winter blends. Hoping the lineups aren’t horrendous, my mom has already asked me to get a tin of Cocomint Cream for her (her all time favorite tea, she has been looking for a substitue for ages lol). So this tea should provide some energy to tackle that today, as well as laundry haha, as long as it doesn’t make me too tea drunk ;). Thanks again Teavivre for the opportunity to sample this lovely raw pu’erh!!

Good morning/afternoon Steepster! I am having a slow start to the day due to staying up til around 1:30 on Halloween night haha. It wasn’t an overly eventful evening, it was my first year handing out candy to the kids at our new house, so that was kind of fun! Watched Nightmare before Christmas and Ghostbusters with a friend, fell asleep after my second beer, then just went to bed late lol. Oh, and ate too much candy. Can you say sugar crash? Lol, it was quite fun anyways, just fairly low key :)

This is my tea I am attempting to wake myself up with this morning. I did about a 1.5 min steeping time, and this is sooo malty and honeyed, and delicious, but honestly not really waking me up. It is actually kind of relaxing me, which usually never happens from black teas. Maybe I am just so tired, my brain is like ‘I do not comprehend this thing that is caffeine’. Lol, whatever it is, I need to get in gear and clean up the house for my mom and aunt’s visit in 2 hours! Haha let’s get crackin! Oh, and see previous notes on this delicious tea from the wonderful people at Teavivre (this was a free sample from them!).

Cameron B.

Hah, I watched Ghostbuster last night as well. :D

mrs.stenhouse12

Yay! Lol to be honest, I slept through most of it haha, I was more awake for the one before it though at least!

Happy Halloween Steepster!!

I love Halloween. I brought a full costume to work but am only wearing the wings and antenna (it’s a bee costume) as I’m scared the dress is not appropriate lol. It’s a bit short, but with leggings it’s not bad. However, my work is pretty conservative, and no one is overly dressed up, so this will suffice for today. Unfortunately I couldn’t bring my Halloween steeping mug to work because the cat broke it last year lol, but I can still have this candy corn tea! I actually don’t think I’ve had it since last Halloween lol. It seems to have held up okay, the honey flavor is maybe a bit more faint, but I had a candy corn in the steeper, so I am happy and it is still sweet. Tasty and appropriate on this ghoulish day! I plan to drink Halloween themed teas throughout the day (switching to pumpkin beers this evening lol).

Hope everyone has a wonderful spooky day! See previous notes on this tea :)

tea-sipper

I’m sipping this one at the moment too.. with a candy corn in the mug. :D

mrs.stenhouse12

Hooray! Happy Halloween :) Graveyard Mist is next up for me!

Sweet Canadian

This is my tea! I have a packaged sealed that I should open, happy halloween!

All I want to drink with this colder weather we’re having is shu! Made a mug of this to have while watching hockey tonight. Super soft and smooth, earthy, a slight sweetness that is bordering on caramel..oh and perfect relaxing feeling to unwind tonight after another busy week half over lol. Only half left, and so much to do! Relaxing for now. See previous notes on this tea :)

THIS TEA. It’s so good!!! Ahhh I hardly know how to describe it…creamy, soft, a bit of citrus, some wood, a slight almost scotch aftertaste….this is pretty tasty indeed. Getting caramel notes in a pu’erh too, that hasn’t happened much for me yet! I even brewed this up Western style and it’s amazing. The ounce of tea is in a huge chunk too, so I’ll have to figure out a better method of breaking off a piece for the next steepings than just breaking it with my hands lol. But it’s so tasty! A different shu than anything I have had before.

Sorry for the short note, without much form or my usual style, this is just very delicious and I want to just drink it and enjoy it. I’ll try to elaborate more on flavors later :)

Doug F

I prefer to steep shus western style for at least five minutes to get that really deep sludgy flavor.

Tealizzy

That sounds really yummy! The only shu I had where I could taste caramel notes was Mandala’s Temple Stairs. :)

tperez

Mmm, that’s a really nice one

mrs.stenhouse12

5 minutes hmm i should try that sometime, if I can handle the caffeine! This is by far one of my favorite shu’s to date now, I want to have more tonight but feel like I should hoard it lol, so delicious!

Doug F

I’m sensitive to caffeine too, but I find that pu-erhs have lower levels than other teas.

mrs.stenhouse12

Yeah I have noticed that as well :) some pu’erh’s actually make me more relaxed even than herbal teas! But on the other hand, I have found some that give me so much energy I hardly know what to do..those I must drink sparingly. Luckily this one was a relaxing one, so a 5 min steep would probably just enhance the flavor, not my heart rate and energy level :)

Bio

Hello all, I am an electrical engineer (read:NERD :D), who is a bit obsessed with tea! I discovered loose tea in 2011, DAVIDsTEA in 2012 and it took off from there. I really started drinking/enjoying tea because it was excellent to take to class in the morning and because I can’t handle coffee! (unless it’s a really good cappuccino or latte, or decent decaf haha)

I enjoy a variety of teas – current favorites being ripe and raw pu’erhs, chinese black teas and herbal/green rooibos blends. I also enjoy white, green, and oolong teas, although I tend to drink them more in the warmer months. I have also tried matcha and guayusa, but I don’t drink them too often as I am a bit sensitive to caffeine. As a result I don’t drink black teas as often as I used to, but in moderation I can still enjoy a wide variety of teas.

Oh, and I have a severe peanut allergy and try to avoid most other nuts, just to be safe. Limits my tea choices a bit, but that’s ok. However I have tried almonds and found out I can eat them, so I have been trying a few teas with them in them.
