21 Tasting Notes
Picked up the other new tea to try as well – why not, right?
This one has a bit of an off-putting smell dry – I’m not sure what it is, but I expected the caramel/toffee would come out more when it was steeped.
The steeped flavours were definitely stronger and more pleasant than the dry smell – that odd off-putting smell has disappeared. The hint of salt is faintly there, but I think it mostly rounds out and balances the black tea. The caramel/toffee and smoothness kind of reminds me of a werthers candy – without being so cloyingly sweet!
Visited Davids Tea today to top up on a few faves AND this new tea. I like nutty teas (hehe!) – toasted walnut is one of my favourite greens. I was excited to try a nutty black tea – and I definitely hadn’t tried a tea with brazil nuts in it.
Brazillionaire smells wonderful dry – nutty w/ a hint of coconut and a bit of sweetness from the raisins.
Came home and steeped a cup right away – the smell was great, nuttier and rich, it steeped to a medium amber colour. This tea is delicious – the nuttiness is definitely the dominant flavour, along with the tea – the coconut lingers in the background. Definitely a keeper!
Edit to add: still delicious – but the whole brazil nuts are kind of huge! I’ve been breaking them up ab bit when I scoop out the dry tea. On the other hand, the big steeped brazil nuts are delicious after steeping and cooling a bit – still crunchy on inside!
My first oolong – not my first taste of oolong, but rather the first I’ve purchased for myself and steeped at home.
Dry it smells almost like a rich peach liqueur, or caramelized peaches. Steeped it is DELICOUS both hot and cold (and lukewarm, when you make it and leave the cup somewhere…) – the taste of peaches and almonds are definitely bright and present, along with a warmer toasty flavour that I’m assuming comes from the tea itself. 2nd steep just as tasty and satisfying!
Note – Jun 8: I still like the taste of this tea, but am now finding the liquorish, almost fermented smell of the peach to be a bit off-putting. I find I now go to Happy Kombucha when I want a fruity oolong!
Back for Mother’s Day – it smelled so good in the tin in the store that I had to give it a try.
The tea steeps to a pleasant pink colour – and carries a cinnamon-y and somewhat fruity scent.
It is a tart and fruity tasting tea, but the spiciness of the cinnamon balances it out – it almost reminds me of a hot cider. Nice way to unwind before bedtime. Curious to try this one cold!
Herbal teas aren’t always my favourite – I usually find them too bland or “grassy”. I was enticed to smell this in the store and bought a samples worth – strawberries and ginger are two of my favourite things, but again, herbal = skeptical.
I LOVE this tea! It is bright and flavourful – the strawberries are definitely the dominant (delicious!) flavour, but the ginger is there as well – bringing just a little heat and “zing” to the party. Also a favourite of my 10 yr old!
