71 Tasting Notes

I was craving a hearty tea with milk and sugar- comfort foods, you know- and decided on this one. Nice and full bodied, malty, smooth. The milk rounds it all out, and the sugar brings up the tea flavors, brightening the cup a bit. Just what I needed on a Monday morning.

Lovely sweet almond scent upon opening the packet! Yum! You can taste both the almonds and the green tea base in this one, but I don’t find any cinnamon- that’s fine by me though! I’m having this one plain, no added sweetener, and it’s really tasty. Light, bright, and with a sweet aftertaste. My only complaint is the amount of ‘crumbs’ left after I take my tea ball out- there’s a fair amount in there. I’ll finish this one quickly though, so it shouldn’t be a huge problem.

Thanks go to KallieBoo for this sample! I’m really excited to try this one. Hmmm… I steeped this one for a little over 5 minutes in boiling water. Naked, I’m not getting much other than rooibos… maybe a tiny bit of spice? Definitely no pumpkin, though. It doesn’t seem very strong at all, despite the long brewing time(for a bag, anyway). It’s got a strong rooibos smell after brewing, despite the distinct pumpkin-y spicy smell before. I’m also getting a bit of a sour taste in there, not pleasant. I guess this one is not for me.

Decided to try this one out since I have no spicy caffeinated teas at the moment. The dry smell is quite fruity, and the tea scent comes out as it’s steeping. It smells delicious! The naked flavor is really interesting- fruit hints with black tea overtones. Slightly tart. Nice full mouth feel with a bit of dryness. Very nice!

This is a nice one. It’s not too strong, no astringency really. A sweet, slightly fruity note, full-bodied. Not one of my favorites, since it’s pretty middle of the road black tea nothing special, but a good stand-by.

Wow- this is yummy! It’s nice and strong, no bitterness, smooth, and MALTY. I steeped 1.5 tsp for my large mug for 4 minutes at 212. I had it with toast, but this could easily hold up to a hearty breakfast!

It really is. I love a good breakfast tea, and this really tops what I’ve had so far!

Thanks go to The Persimmon Tree Tea for this free tin! Dry, this tea smells like a fresh coconut, and the leaves themselves are BEAUTIFUL- I love the mix of flowers and tea leaves. Steeping, you don’t smell much at first, and then I was quickly reminded of coconut rum- I’m humming beachy songs as I type :) Also, this is my first ever white tea, just so you know.
My first sip is quite lovely- the coconut is strong, but you can also taste the tea, and it’s got this great creamy taste too. I’m drinking it neat(no additives), which I have to admit is not my usual MO, but it’s really quite nice. A very fruity blend, that’s for sure. And I agree with the characteristics listed for this tea- it’s refreshing and mild, which is a nice change from some of the teas I’ve been sampling lately. I’m definitely going to keep this one in rotation a while!

So I gave this one another shot this morning, recalling that it was a rather weak tea last time I had it. I decided that I should put in 2 teabags to offset the weakness, and then it would be fine. No. No, no, no, no. Instead of weak black tea with a little scent, it was weak black tea with an entire jar of cinnamon in it. Yuck. Sorry, I really wanted to like this tea, but it’s just not happening.

The smell of this one was surprising when I opened the packet. It’s very apple-y, with cinnamon and orange and sweetness. I love the smell! It’s almost like apple cider, but better somehow. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint after steeping.
Well, I’m pretty disappointed. It’s nearly flavorless. I’m wondering if I somehow didn’t put in enough leaves? I’m going to reserve my number rating until I can try again with a stronger infusion.

Don’t you hate it when the scent is exquisite and the flavor is meh? Just like dangling a carrot under your nose, then yanking it away. (Unless, of course, you don’t like carrots.)

IrishBreakfastLass

I do! It’s the biggest disappointment!

Terri HarpLady

yeah, that’s a real bummer.

After already trying several other rooibos and really only caring for the chai one, I was skeptical about trying this one. But I needed a no-caff tea for the evening, and didn’t want to use up the last bit of my sample of rooibos chai from Upton. So out came this very generous sample. This tea smells absolutely gorgeous(can a smell be gorgeous?)! It is a strong citrus, but not the candy kind, more of the peel- that nice bitter acidic smell. I cannot smell any rooibos in this one at all at first. Steeping, I start to smell the rooibos, and now I’m a little worried that it won’t taste as great as it smells, but I leave it for the time prescribed(7 minutes) and return when the timer goes off. The first sip is definitely rooibos-like, but the more I drink, the less rooibos I get, and the more citrus there is. It’s wonderful. I put in a couple of sugar cubes to see if I could brighten it up a little, and it works wonders. I really like this one! This one could be a candidate in my night-time line up for sure. It’s definitely helping with this sore/scratchy throat- lemon is one of my go-to flavors when I’m sick, and they aren’t joking about the high lemon content in this one. It’s very nice. No sourness that I can find(before the sugar of course, and certainly none after). It’s overall a pretty good cup! And it’s a rooibos, which is a bonus for me! This one is going on the Chado shopping list too, it looks like!

I’m at-home mother of 4, married 10 years. Tea, like knitting, is therapy for me. It’s a short reprieve from things that frustrate me. And it’s much cheaper than actual therapy. I was raised by my grandparents, both of whom enjoyed a good cup of tea, and they were already set in their ways by the time I came along. They had their tea all picked out, and we drank the same thing pretty much all the time. I just recently started branching out after discovering some new teas in a Round Robin I participated in on Ravelry(my other safe haven where my knitting progress lives), and I’ve been experimenting ever since. I recently tried my first loose leaf, Twinings Irish Breakfast, and I’ve also been getting some samples from Chado Teas. Every time I get a box or packet in the mail it’s like Christmas!

Aside from tea, my life consists of normal mommy-type stuff, of course, and I have 2 girls ages 7 and 9, and two boys ages 3 and 5. But I also enjoy photography, knitting, reading, writing, making collages, and tending to the farm. Did I mention I have 2 horses, goats, chickens, a pig, ducks, working dogs, and a couple of cats? We LOVE animals around here. I also love Dr. Who, many British comedies such as Are You Being Served?, and sarcasm. I suffer from depression and anxiety, hence the need for things to keep my hands busy and my mind on task, and I also have a sensory disorder, which includes a strong aversion to jeans and jean-like materials.

My favorite teas so far:

-Heredia Lemon Verbena
-Chai anything(except Stash, which is, for some reason, quite bland to me)
-Twinings Irish Breakfast
-Twinings Pure Mint
-Numi Aged Earl Grey
-Twinings New Zealand Breakfast
-Twinings Lady Grey

I will add more as I come across them, and some of these will probably fall off the list in favor of others I may prefer.
