Strong chlorophyll, green vegetable notes. Didn’t taste bitter to me at all, but not sweet either. I had some issues getting it to foam, but maybe its because I let the water cool down too much. Going to try it again and report more further.

can’t keep track of how many times i’ve drank this but def a good buy from teavana’s post holiday sales. i have it at work and its great at curbing my afternoon cravings for something sweet, and can stand 2-3 infusions.

i’m liking this tea more and more as an easy green option after dinner, especially with the pineapple flavour its a bit like a palate cleanser. I also tend to boil water lately and forget to pour it into my tea right away, which means it usually cools down to a temperature ideal for green tea anyway once I remember to pour the water into my tea cup. If only I could go to Hawaii and get a fresh bag of this!

BT has a regular yerba mate and this, which is a dark roast version. I thought this would be a great alternative for coffee but thats not quite the case. Its has roasted notes of grain but more herbal tasting, nothing like the earthy, chocolate-y sweetness of coffee.

Initially I tried this unsweetened but found the regular flavour much too herbal-y and medicinal, so added a tsp of honey, and all was good.

Caffeine-wise it seemed to provide a bit of alertness that lasted for a while, rather than the up and down crash of coffee.

This is organic as well and comes in an unbleached tea bag.

Flavors: Grain, Roasted Barley, Toasted

This is an organic herbal tea blend that comes in an unbleached tea bag – something that I haven’t seen a lot of but seems to be a good concept considering that if you already want organic tea, and if you’d be steeping your tea in hot water for long periods of time, you don’t want to have any chemical residues coming from the tea bag as well.

Its a mix of herbals such as hyssop, elderberry, nettle leaf, lemongrass, wild cherry bark, rosehips, lemon balm, astralagus root, cranberry leaf. I can definitely taste some lemongrass in it, and an overal herbaceousness, as I’m not as familiar with tisanes.

Its a pleasant tea to drink though, and can be drank unsweetened, which I did. The neat feature about the tea bags is that the tags have little motivational blurbs on them which is nice to read when you’re relaxing with a hot cup.

I can’t do straight green teas first thing in the morning (sensitive stomach) so I usually go for a black with milk if I do feel like tea then. This one I’ve had before but the more I drink it the more average I find it. Its so average I’d rather drink Tetley over this. Don’t get me wrong its not horrible, just rather blah.

This is such a heavenly tangerine infused tea.

Its a dried tangerine peel with oolong blend. The dry blend notes smell clearly of sweet, dried citrus. When steeped, the citrus flavour reminds me of candied orange pieces, that with some floral-ness of the oolong combines nicely for a fruit-forward floral tea.

When steeped a second time, the citrus is definitely more muted, but the oolong still brews up wonderfully. Didn’t get the chance to try a 3rd infusion (tea sampling party was the occasion here) but I got a small sample to try out at home and will report that back in a later tealog.

The colour is so pretty as well, a golden orange clear liquor.

Beautiful rich dark green leaves when dry. Changes to medium green spinach-looking leaves when steeped.

The infusion is a light but very green colour, rather than the yellow green we normally see with senchas and Chinese green teas.

Flavour reminds me of sweet grass, with only a hint of dryness at the end. Very refreshing yet still warming in this weather. I would like to try it cold brewed as well in the summer – wonder how that would taste.

This was a sample but definitely putting this on my want list.

Another one of those weeks where I keep reaching for this tea. I love how strong this tea aroma is but I do wish the cinnamon pieces were smaller so that they could be distributed more evenly throughout the bag. At this point halfway through, I only have 1 chunk of cinnamon left because of that so I’m deliberately avoiding that last stick for now. Or maybe I’ll just add my own.

finding myself in hot water again and again…

I grew up in a tea drinking culture, but my parents were seriously hung up on jasmine tea and oolong tea, so I never really had much exposure to other teas. My horizons expanded when I moved to Japan and discovered genmaicha (roasted rice tea aka popcorn tea). after that, I discovered black teas, red teas, and flavoured teas, how different teas could be by the region, processing methods, water used.

Now I can’t get enough of it!

I experiment with different teas, blending them sometimes to see what the outcome would be. I find my tastes to be quite diverse, but run away from the more floral side of things. Tie Kwan Yin is probably the only one that most people seem to enjoy, that I don’t. Otherwise I am game for most teas. Fruity? love it. Smoky? Mmm. Earthy? bring it on! Light and vegetal? keep pouring!
