Just had a cup of this! While it reminds me a lot of other mint chocolate teas, it has a bit of a bite to it. I’m going to have to drink a lot more to figure out exactly what the difference is. ;)

Another year, another cup. It’s good, and more citrusy than I remember. I got a boatload of new teas over the holiday, so I’m looking forward to a bunch of taste tests this week!

Ooh, Holiday Tea sounds so good right now! I’m going to go scrounge around in my tea chest and see if I have any with me…

I had a cup of this tonight and it was like candy! Perhaps that’s because of the sugar I added. Really, it smelled just like anise to me, and tasted like licorice tea. It also was really pretty while steeping. I recommend this, while listening to Jump, Little Children.

Do I correctly gather that your musical tastes have changed a bit during the past few months? :) (I remember, not quite so fondly,a certain Hickory Dickory Dock children’s CD from toddler days…)

Indeed, some of it has. Strangely, Jump, Little Children is a carry over from before, though. ;)

So I finally dug back into my Golden Moon samples. I’ve had the family stomach bug that 15/17 of us got and wanted some ginger something to sip on. And now, halfway through the cup, I’m seconding everyone else’s comments. I don’t get a lot of ginger here. It’s a decent cup, not something I’d avoid, but it’s also not something that I’d choose if looking for ginger in the future.

This new tea shop opened up in Raleigh. It’s a small storefront, and apparently has existed for some time on the internet. My favorite part is the phone number: tea-yall. This was one of the samples they had out. It was iced and surprisingly flavorful. I’m not a huge herbal fan, so I didn’t get any to take home, but did enjoy the sample.

I am adding this to my shopping list right now. This was another smokey sample that I thought about throwing out… and once you can get past the smoke (see last review… this isn’t part of the tea, just part of my particular samples) it’s amazing. And I typically don’t like vanilla tea at all. It’s perhaps my least favorite flavoring. But this one is just enough to make you think of vanilla without being overwhelming. Yum!!

drank Ancient Gold by Samovar

Old Arcade Fire, nose deep in writing, and a stiff cup of tea. It’s like college again!

I got this as part of Samovar’s black tea sampler. Something happened with mine so that all the samples were smokey from the Lapsang Souchong. Everything in my sample got smokey (and Samovar had awesome customer support about it). I thought about throwing out my samples, but never got around to it. Today I decided to try the Ancient Gold. It smells more smokey than I like, and definitely has a hint of it, which I don’t like. However, the base is really good. It’s a strong cup and I get a hint of raisin. It’s good enough I want to try an untainted cup of this at some point…. I guess I’ll have to order a sample of this one!

I’ve been into tea, at some level, since college with a first tin of loose tea brought back by my parents from Oxford. My love of tea increased with a visit to Boston and a chance cup at Tealuxe. Since then I’ve only gotten more interested in tea and have developed more of an appreciation for it.

tea rating guide
(updated 12/2010)

100: a perfect cuppa. these are the teas I’ll keep in my cupboard and tend to be one per type of tea.

90-99: will definitely get more of this tea

80-89: likely to get more and perhaps it will become a favorite with time

70-79: very good, depending on my mood or the season

60-69: wouldn’t actively try to get this tea, but also wouldn’t avoid it in a tea shop or restaurant

50-59: run-of-the-mill tea for me

40-49: decent, would hit the spot in some moods, but probably wouldn’t purchase it for my cupboard

30-39: okay, will try again, maybe

20-29: meh. I’d try this tea again if no other were available

10-19: drinkable, but a forced cup

0-9: didn’t even finish the cup
