drank Evening Lights - herb by Zen Tea

Tea 4/8 from the GCTTB that I traded off. Moving along fast!

Interesting how so many reviewers found a prominent licorice taste to this tea. I made a cup for me + 1 for my husband (different leaves for each cup) and with each cup I found the foretaste to be mint, next- floral, then maybe a touch of licorice. Maybe it’s because I only steeped for 5 min? Either way this blend is decent and I’ll use it up pretty fast.

Flavors: Floral, Mint

I like this one! Thanks for reminding me of it!

Perhaps the trick is a short steep?

I think so!

Another tea from the GCTTB :).

Neither nor cheesecake flavours were prominent. I mostly just tasted honeybush with a faint sweetish flavouring. Not sure if it’s the sample I got or what. Either way, my sample will get used up quickly. Always nice to try new teas.

Another tea from the GCTTB :). I was pretty surprised when I went to log this on steepster and saw that I had already had this tea apparently 2 years ago. I’m usually not a white tea drinker but some jasmine silver needles once in awhile is lovely treat. Drank 2 or 3 cups of this: great for a relaxing afternoon. I’ll have some afternoons off coming up soon and this shall be a nice indulgence.

Flavors: Floral, Jasmine

drank Mao Feng Green Tea by Teapigs

My first tea from the GCTTB ! :) Although this is a bagged tea it is full leaf and it’s in a cute, see through, pyramid shaped bag. Nice :)

I’ve had at least one other Mao Feng Green before and it’s usually more vegetal/buttery. This one, however was very floral (but without bitterness). Nonetheless, it was quite enjoyable and convenient to have today as I have 3 appointments and many chores to do (there goes my day off lol). I Loved watching the leaves unravel in the pyramid too :).

I like this one too! Excited to see what’s in the box :)

drank Organic Cascade Mint by Stash Tea

I haven’t been home in a few days other than to sleep so I’ve forgotten 3 days in a row to pack herbal teas for work. Found this in the cupboard, which is kind of providential since I’ve been wanting to drink peppermint/spearmint/whatever-mint teas lately.

This is probably the only tea from Stash I’ve had that I really actually like. Mind you, it’s hard to screw up mint tea. I’ve just been putting the tea bag in the hot water from the water cooler (whatever temp that is, idk) and steeping for however long (10min, an hour, whatever) in my mug. Hard to screw up mint.

In other news, I’ve now accepted a PERMANENT part time position! I was working temp full time, but this is ultimately a step forward because now I’m in the union, and that’s the hardest thing to do. I know for a fact that there will be a full time permanent job posted shortly, so potentially I can just transfer into that. Permanent full time with benefits and such will be amazing….one can dream :)

Flavors: Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint

Congrats!! Hope it goes well for you :)

drank Plum Berry by Sencha Tea Bar

Tried this a while ago. The first bit of the cup tasted like soap. Like, I actually wondered if I left dishsoap in the mug. Gross. After it cooled down it just tasted like diluted hibiscus with a standard white tea base. Either way, I didn’t care for this blend. I’m gunna pass it along to someone else.

Flavors: Hibiscus, Soap, Tart

A freebie for the month of Nov! :) This is a mild spice blend (I notice iHOT tends to be very light with their spices). I def taste the cinnamon and allspice (maybe the cardamon too?), but overall it’s very mild. I’ve been using this up by mixing it with pumpkin cheesecake (a tea I do not like cause it’s too woody tasting) and that’s been really helping to mask the taste. If I hadn’t used up so much already, I would have tried this tea as a latte. Oh well, I have other nice latte teas :)

drank Sencha Superior by Sencha Tea Bar

For being a more expensive tea, I didn’t like this as much as Sencha Green from them. This tea is really delicate (needs 160F water) and doesn’t have the vegetal taste I love. It’s still smooth (and maybe floral?) when brewed up, and I will have no problem using up my sample, but yeah, not a favourite.

drank Kukicha by Sencha Tea Bar

Tried this a few times now. It’s amazing how different this is from the Kukicha Gold. This tea is much more delicate (needs 160F water) and this is very little vegetal notes. Instead it ends in sweet notes. Altogether pretty good but I definitely prefer the Kukicha Gold.

drank Baked Apple Rooibos by Tea Desire

Thank you, Mookit, for a sample of this tea! Got 3 cups out of what you sent me, and it’s already used up :)

Simple, nice tea: rooibos base with a hint of sweetness from the apple pieces. Not bad! Makes me wanna try a similar blend from iHOT to see how they compare. As mentioned above I used up the tea pretty quick.

Flavors: Apple

Bio

I used to drink coffee, but it started to hurt my stomach so I switched to tea. A friend of mine introduced me to DAVID’s TEA and I couldn’t stop after that! I’ve now been expanding my scope beyond DAVIDs away from “candy-like teas” into more natural teas or flavourings. Current favourite stores include International House of Tea (iHOT) and Verdant Tea.

When it comes to tea ratings, I usually only ever rate them once. I know a lot of people on steepster do many tasting notes for the same teas depending on their mood, but I prefer to rate once and if my opinion changes, I will delete the old note and rate again. How I rate teas goes as following:

1-49: Teas I won’t buy again. Either the taste is disgusting to me, or it’s too bland, etc. I’m most likely not even going to finish the tin/bag.

50-59: Teas I wouldn’t buy again; I have to force myself to drink the whole cup to not waste it.

60-69: I’ll finish the cup and even the bag/tin, but I wouldn’t buy these teas again. Teas of this rating are “lacking something”.

70-79:Teas that are pretty good and ones I might buy again. Usually these teas are ones I have to be “in the mood for” and drink occasionally.

80-89: Great teas! Ones I will drink several times a week and often have in my stash :).

90-100: Favourite must-have teas!

My favourite types of tea are green tea and different types of “natural” herbal tea (different herbs, natural flavourings, etc). I cannot drink black or oolong teas due a sensitive stomach. I don’t really go for white tea due to its cost and the fact that it has just a little caffeine (if I want caffeine I’ll just go for a green tea and if I don’t I’ll go for a herbal-no sense on just having a little caffeine). I also like to do iced teas in the summer time, and then I’ll gravitate towards herbal fruit blends that are bagged to cut costs and convenience (it’s easier to throw out bags than clean a filter). Flavours I don’t care for include anything too tart, bitter, artificial, overly spicy or overly sweet.
Also, when I have time (usually when I’m not working much) I like to make tea lattes out of different rooibos blends.

My everyday green tea is Gunpowder since it is strong and not sensitive to temperatures or steeping time which is something I cannot be bothered with when I’m getting ready for work. Other greens I enjoy are dragonwell, sencha, and different Chinese greens. I’m not the biggest fan of yunnan greens since they are so finicky (although I do like gyokuro)

On a day to day basis I usually have 2-3 cups of green tea and several more cups of different herbal blends.

Besides tea I also work at a couple libraries (I am finishing my library tech diploma),am in my early 20s and got married in Oct 2014.
