1719 Tasting Notes
Having this one today. It reminds me a lot of Heritage Honey Oolong from Mountain Tea. That one is from Taiwan. This is Fujian. Very nice cup. I was expecting heavy smoke or roasted notes. Nope. It is fresh and fruity with hints of osmanthus, ginger, and cinnamon, all wrapped in nuts and orchids.
Preparation
Last night’s cup. Anyone surprised? I didn’t think so.
Fixed this just before bedtime. My desktop is behaving badly. Virus and Malware scans aren’t finding anything. So I decided to do a system restore as I sipped this. Bad idea. At about 2:00 am I turned off the monitor and fell asleep. At 6:00 I was back up working on it again. It at least boots now but still running slow. It may be a motherboard problem in which case it will have to wait. I’ll just use my laptop. I have irreplaceable software on it that even if I could find the disks, they won’t run on Win 8.
Ingredients:
Peppermint, decaffeinated green tea, orange peel, natural vanilla and mint flavors with other natural flavors, cinnamon, milk thistle, blackberry leaves, roasted carob, roasted chicory and vanilla bean.
That sounds bloody awful
That’s what I used to think, add to it that the box looks to cartoonish to be taken seriously. I avoided Celestial Seasonings for years. I was wrong.
KS, I believe you! I usually avoid tea bags, not cause I’m a tea snob but because they taste awful to me. Except for the classic yellow earl grey from Twinings , and another Canadian brand I know, I just don’t bother buying or trying them anymore.
But I’d love to have more variety around to bring with me when I travel, so much user friendly than loose tea!
I checked them out, they seem to use only all natural ingredients and I like that. Just found a Canadian online store that carries a large variety of Celestial Seasonings. I will probably place an order, but before I do, could you recommend some other flavours that you really enjoy from them?
I have only tried 4.
Candy Cane Lane I am obviously obsessed with as well at Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. Sleigh ride you need to play with time, temp, and water/tea ratio to find your sweet spot. I also recommend adding sweetener – to make it more cookie like.
Sweet Harvest Pumpkin was just OK. I have never had a pumpkin tea that lived up to my expectations. It’s better than most in a bag but the added Stevia kind of doesn’t help.
Sleepytime Extra is a spearmint/chamomile flavored herbal. Normally I hate spearmint. Here it seems to work. I bought this one because it is the only one at my grocer that contains valerian which tends to relax my brain so I can sleep.
One of these days I need to be brave and buy a variety pack just to see if I am missing other simple comfort teas. What I have tried I liked better than Stash. I agree it is hard to beat classic yellow for EG, unless it’s Ahmad ;)
I am going stark raving mad. I haven’t been out of the house since late last week. My sons dug out our driveway late yesterday but until the ice is off the parking lots. Getting around is way too difficult for me and I am not going to risk it. Tomorrow I am driving to town to see how safe it looks.
In the meantime I brewed one of my simple favorites. I am so happy to have drawers full of amazing teas, but honestly sometimes I just miss a simple cup.
This is a tea I have bought for years. Long before I knew anything about Steepster or the bigger world of tea I found bagged Ahmad in a local market. It is generally about the quality of Twinings. I found the loose version at Amazon. I think it was $6 for 500g. It cost somewhere around $9 for shipping. This summer I found the loose leaf at the market where I was originally introduced to Ahmad. It was $10 for over a pound of tea. Is it THAT good? Uhmm. It has 3 ratings sooo maybe just to me. We have history :) Seriously, this is an inexpensive chun mee with a hint of bergamot. It will steep twice. What’s not to like.
Church was cancelled today because of snow and ice. I got my house pants and a mug of this. Looking forward to many resteeps. Sweet, fresh, smooth, mellow, scent of hay, and maybe the cup wasn’t rinsed well but I am getting a little spicy. This is the last of this one. All the Nature’s Tea Leaf teas have been very good.
So I had a burrito this afternoon and poured some queso over it. Then out of boredom I kind of ate all the queso and chips – I’ve been very very bad. I need puerh (and self control). I took a scoop of Nannoushan puerh, I think it was $6/8oz so you know it was good ;P I added 1/4 tsp of cocoa nibs and a half spoon of Teaves rose black tea. The rose is too heavy in this. It needs to be at least cut in half. I can smell the puerh but it is over powered. Good idea – poor execution.
I used the last of the leaf – which was more than I thought – and increased the steep time around 3 minutes. Dang this is good. I don’t get any long jing inferences. It is somewhat creamy. Strongly but wonderfully bitter with a dandelion greens aftertaste. Very, very, nice. Wish I had tried this earlier.
I wrote a lengthy review on my blog. Short version – this is a cool twist on the classic. This is not for weenies. The bergamot is strong in this one. The peppermint surprise attacks while sipping with an icy blast. This is a blend of Nilgiri and gunpowder, and yes I can taste both. Glad I added this one to my subscription!
Preparation
My new box of this is slightly different than my previous experience. The old stuff leaned more toward butterscotch. Maybe it had just been sitting on the grocers shelf alone and unloved for too long before I brought it home? Anyway this new box has just a hint of citrus. Love the aroma. I use one bag in a 8oz cup and I add sweetener. I notice most everyone else double bags – does that mean you don’t sweeten? This is sugar cookie. Emphasis on sugar and cookie :) This tastes exactly like what I would expect. Just like the smiley face cookies I get at a local bakery – except this is better because its cheaper and guilt free. I can have as much as I want. I tend to just leave the bag in the cup. Good stuff. I hope I never out grow it.
I have had this over a year. It has been stored in zip lock bag inside a zip lock pouch. The age doesn’t seem to have had any adverse affect. I remember being on the fence about this one when I first tried it. I later had Teavivre’s version which I liked better at the time. Today though I am finding this interesting. The color is a very pale green/yellow tint. At first it just tastes sweet, then it switches to a light green vegetal flavor. Late in the sip it almost becomes bitter but suddenly transforms into a cross between dandelion and pine. I am noticing a wonderful cooling sensation all the way down into my lungs. Awesome. This is the last of this sample but it should re-steep a couple more times. I am looking forward to each mug. It is interesting how tastes can shift a little after a year. Leaving the rating from a year ago.
Preparation
We get nostalgia candy cravings this time of year, too. In our case, cherry chocolates—-the kind that are so soupy you have to hold it upside down, carefully bite off the bottom, then hold the rest like a cup while you slurp up the syrup.
