Sipdown! 827.

Another hot/cold-brew, and it was delicious. I drank this one quite quickly though, so I can’t recall if I caught the orange/clove notes that I did last time, but it was definitely fruity vanilla marzipan. Even if you’re not a fan of marzipan, I’d recommend giving this tea a shot! It’s quite tasty… and hibiscus-free!

Sipdown! 828.

Hot/cold-brewed this one, and it was marvellous. I stand by my previous statement that this is better than DT’s Tropicalia – there’s a bit of a carmelliness to it that’s absolutely delicious. It didn’t fare super well in my travel mug (it came camping with me), but I’m not surprised, as mugs seem to deaden flavours for whatever reason. It definitely still drank it though! And if I end up making another PureAroma order, I’m quite certain I’ll pick up more of this. The only downside is that it’s heavy…. but that’s a downside to all fruity blends. And at least this one isn’t packed with hibiscus filler!

Another rather old backlog to get to :)

I am a bit addicted to this tea, I’ll admit… it’s one I’d probably like to have often. It seems that when a white blend is done right, it’s absolutely amazing, and this is one of those. (Of course, Butiki white blends also fall into that category.) Anyhow, pretty much the same impression of this one as last time, except that I noted that the second infusion was very vanilla-y – which is only a good thing!! I think there are actual vanilla bean specks in this tea, which may be what makes the difference between it and teas with vanilla flavouring. Mmmmmm, delicious!

drank Banana Pudding Black Tea by 52teas
6106 tasting notes

This is a backlog from quite a while ago that I forgot to post. Thanks to Courtney for sending me some of this to try!

I unfortunately don’t remember too much about the tea, except that both banana and coconut were noticeable, though not super strong. I think it may have tasted a touch like banana cream pie, although it had nothing on 52teas’ houjicha version. Overall, not bad, but another tea I wouldn’t need stocked in my cupboard. I still have a cup or two left of it – hopefully I will pay better attention next time!

drank Buttercream by DAVIDsTEA

Sipdown, 829!

Done with one package of this, and will be onto the final packet soon… eep! So many tasty discontinued teas…

Anyhow, brewed this up for a tasty treat in the evening but didn’t get to it and stuck it in the fridge – it’s not too bad chilled! I think I prefer it warm, though, so will drink the rest that way (since I have plenty of other teas around to ice).

I love this tea and only have one package left, so I keep it for special occasions, but it is probably a year old now, so I ought to start drinking it faster so it won’t go bad, and I can properly enjoy it.

Kittenna

Mine’s definitely older than that! Haha. Still tasty though.

Lucky for us that Mango Lassi is basically like Buttercream without the white tea base….so we might be able to mix it up ourselves now. :)

drank Caramel by Kusmi Tea

Sipdown! 830.

This is a backlog from probably about a week ago. I drank this alongside Butiki’s Caramel Vanilla Assam. I actually rather enjoyed Kusmi’s version this time – 1 2 minute infusion worked much better than whatever I did the first time, and the result was a pretty tasty caramel tea.

Yep. Standing by my previous notes about this one; tasty, but not quite what I wanted. On the plus side, since it’s a tea in a plastic baggie (since it was a split with Sil), I get to drink it freely, because bagged teas gotta be sipped down! I had half an ounce though, so have a good few cups left (probably 3).

mine arrived yesterday…. i think i’ll try it tonight =0)

Shoulda asked for this one from Sil, but I added it too late to the package she is sending me. Oh well, there is always next time.

I love this one! But, I still have other favourites over this one.

drank Darjeeling by Nina's Paris

Sipdown! 831.

Well… I can taste the muscatel here, and it’s a fairly light black… but eh. I’m not particularly fond of it. I did like the very light moonlight darjeeling I had from Butiki, but I don’t think that darjeelings would fall into the category of teas I like to drink. Just not a flavour profile I care for.

There’s only a bit of astringency, which at least makes this pleasant to drink. I’m sure a darjeeling fan would enjoy this far more than I!

Sipdown! 832. I steeped this for 2 minutes this time, and there was no astringency at all. Overall, it was a pretty tasty, albeit generic, cup of good assam. I think my tastes for teas are somewhat skewed, since particularly with blacks, I’ve been tending to buy high quality ones, so sometimes great teas are labelled as “meh” because they’re just at the low end of what I’ve tried! Also, no chocolate or raisins here, and I like those in a straight black :D Bumping the rating a bit, because I’d happily drink this again or throw it in a travel mug, but I’d prefer others.

Haha, I pretty much had the same thoughts on this tea as I had last time – not bad, but I prefer Butiki’s. :) No astringency with the reduced infusion time, yay!

Profile

Bio

I have always been a tea fan (primarily herbals and Japanese greens/oolongs) but in the last year or so, tea has become increasingly more appealing as not only a delicious, calming drink, but as a relatively cheap, healthy reward or treat to give myself when I deserve something. I should clarify that, however; the reward is expanding my tea cupboard, not drinking tea – I place no restrictions on myself in terms of drinking anything from my cupboard as that would defeat my many goals!

My DavidsTea addiction was born in late 2011, despite having spent nearly a year intentionally avoiding their local mall location (but apparently it was just avoiding the inevitable!). I seem to have some desire to try every tea they’ve ever had, so much of my stash is from there, although I’ve recently branched out and ordered from numerous other companies.

I like to try and drink all my teas unaltered, as one of the main reasons I’m drinking tea other than for the flavour is to be healthy and increase my water intake without adding too many calories! I’ve found that the trick in this regard is to be very careful about steeping time, as most teas are quite pleasant to drink straight as long as they haven’t been oversteeped. However, I tend to be forgetful (particularly at work) when I don’t set a timer, resulting in a few horrors (The Earl’s Garden is not so pleasant after, say, 7+ minutes of steeping).

I’m currently trying to figure out which types of teas are my favourites. Herbals are no longer at the top; oolongs have thoroughly taken over that spot, with greens a reasonably close second. My preference is for straight versions of both, but I do love a good flavoured oolong (flavoured greens are really hit or miss for me). Herbals I do love iced/cold-brewed, but I drink few routinely (Mulberry Magic from DavidsTea being a notable exception). I’m learning to like straight black teas thanks to the chocolatey, malty, delicious Laoshan Black from Verdant Tea, and malty, caramelly flavoured blacks work for me, but I’m pretty picky about anything with astringency. Lately I’ve found red rooibos to be rather medicinal, which I dislike, but green rooibos and honeybush blends are tolerable. I haven’t explored pu’erh, mate, or guayasa a great deal (although I have a few options in my cupboard).

I’ve decided to institute a rating system so my ratings will be more consistent. Following the smiley/frowny faces Steepster gives us:

100: This tea is amazing and I will go out of my way to keep it in stock.

85-99: My core collection (or a tea that would be, if I was allowing myself to restock everything!) Teas I get cravings for, and drink often.

75-84: Good but not amazing; I might keep these in stock sparingly depending on current preferences.

67-74: Not bad, I’ll happily finish what I have but probably won’t ever buy it again as there’s likely something rated more highly that I prefer.

51-66: Drinkable and maybe has some aspect that I like, but not really worth picking up again.

34-50: Not for me, but I can see why others might like it. I’ll make it through the cup and maybe experiment with the rest to get rid of it.

0-33: It’s a struggle to get through the cup, if I do at all. I will not willingly consume this one again, and will attempt to get rid of the rest of the tea if I have any left.
