Oh. This is a very tart and bitter tea when it’s hot and I don’t think I like it that much :/
It smelled really nice in the package! But no. Not good hot at all.
I’ll throw this into my mason jar and stick it into the fridge for a cold brew to enjoy in the morning :)

VariaTEA

I only ever drink this as a cold brew. Hot, I find the hibiscus takes over whereas the other components come out much more as a cold brew.

jump62359

There are some teas that are great both as a hot and a cold brew, but I think this one is definitely leaning towards the cold brew only bit.
It’s in the fridge and very pink. I’ll see how it actually tastes in a couple hours or so :)

drank Peppermint Patty by Butiki Teas
726 tasting notes

I’ve heard so many great things about this tea and yes, it’s another one from NayLynn!

Umm.. I messed with the proportions of the teas. I’m only doing 2g in my smaller mugs, and I thought that the chocolate was what made up a lot of the 2g when I weighed it, so I added a small dash of DAVIDs Peppermint Amour.
I definitely shouldn’t have done that because now all I taste is the peppermint :(

I can definitely tell that this is a great tea though, so it gets my thumbs up :)

I didn’t know my Forensic Anthro quizzes were due today at 6 instead of Monday.
I just finished the most stressful episode of Bones.
I didn’t have time to make dinner so I legit drove to my favourite Filipino restaurant and totally took the wrong turn.
TODAY WAS A FREAKIN STRESSFUL DAY AND THIS WONDERFUL TEA IS GOING TO FIX ALL MY PROBLEMS.

Special shout out to NayLynn for this tea!
I freakin love gun powder alone and in blends and oh my gosh this tea is just made with all my favourites okay. Blueberries, gun powder, freakin COTTON CANDY.

DUDE AS I WAS WAITING FOR MY WATER TO COOL, I WAS LOOKING FOR MY THERMOMETER HANDLE THING, I FOUND MY PEN FOR MY TABLET AND I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR IT FOR MONTHS NOW AND AHHH THIS IS GREAT.

dude this tasting note is a freakin mess I am so sorry.
But it smells soooo good as it’s steeping!
Whoever decided to throw whole blueberries into tea was a freakin genius okay.
This tea is SO GOOD. I don’t really get the cotton candy bit, but it does taste like nice fresh blueberry muffins! Like it’s nice and warm, and as I sip, I could just imagine the blueberries burst in my mouth.
The blueberry flavour is dead on.
And I really like how it has a green tea base, compared to DAVIDs Blueberry Jam with a black tea base. Both are great blueberry teas, but it’s nice to know that blueberry is freakin great with black and green bases.
Now to try a white blueberry tea, or a rooibos or mate or herbal and I JUST WANT TO TRY ALL THE BLUEBERRY TEAS. Whole blueberries is an absolute must.

This tea smells sweet and cinnamonny. Is that what it’s supposed to smell like?
Ahh well, either way, it smells gooooood!
Thanks a bunch to NayLynn for sending me a sample of this!

Hmm.. I don’t know what’s going on with me right now. For some reason all my teas have come out bitter! This and the last one, the flavour was off. But at least the cup was still drinkable :) I made sure to let the kettle settle for much longer in case my temp was off, but dang. Today isn’t a very black tea day.
I’ll stop it with the blacks because they’re giving me problems, so I’ll move on to other teas :)

drank Salted Caramel by DAVIDsTEA
726 tasting notes

A big ol thank you to NayLynn for this tea, and a whole lot of other teas! Dang this package was definitely much larger than I thought.
Decided on this one for today. Mmm Salted Caramel. It sounds so freakin good okay, and now does the tea match the flavour in mind?
The dry leaves definitely smell promising. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS TEA.
Hmm… steeping and it smells like any regular black, unflavoured tea. Hoping that I can taste the caramel/salt when it’s done brewing!
It does have a nice amber colour to it though. DARN YOU BITTER TEA. I BELIEVE MY WATER WAS TOO HOT NO. OKay well, at least I have plenty of this tea so I can fix my mistakes.

See, the thing about tea swaps, you think you’re getting rid of a lot of teas and lessening your tea stash, BUT THEN YOU REMEMBER THAT YOU’RE GETTING PACKAGES FROM YOUR SWAP PARTNER AND YOUR TEA STASH DOESN’T CHANGE.

I’ve packed a whole lot of packages, and I’m getting packages back. Dude. Swaps. They’re great, but SO. MUCH. TEA.
I’m definitely done buying tea, now I’m just attempting to reduce my cupboard.

Dude. I freakin love this tea okay.
It tastes a bit like strawberry lemonade? I love it so SO much :)

Cold brewed overnight in 12oz water for about 12 hours. I’ve strained it into my Harry Potter mug and left it in the fridge to save for a late night treat :)

drank Butterfly Jasmine by DAVIDsTEA
726 tasting notes

I’m starting to buckle down on my caffeine intake. No more blacks after 5pm, no more caffeine period after 7pm. After that it’s herbals and rooibos!

This tea is.. a sipdown? Sorta? It’s a sipdown from the package that MissB sent me a little over a month ago, but my parents sent me some of this tea so I still have it.

This is definitely the best jasmine teas I’ve ever had okay. I’d talk about it in detail, but I’ve definitely done that in my previous notes :)

drank Cookie by Lupicia
726 tasting notes

Think freshly baked caramel cookies. Now take those cookies and leave them in the oven for just a little while longer. Not burnt, but it has that bite of flavour. And not like just regular cookies with a glop of caramel on top, but like the type of cookie that has caramel oozing in the middle. This tea is so freakin good and I need to keep it in my cupboard for forever

Okay let me tell you a thing.
This tea.
When I left for college (nearly 3 years ago), my mom put together a cute little care package for me and it had a wee sachet of this tea. Three years before, I had chocolate tea from Trader Joe’s and IT WAS PRETTY FREAKIN NASTY so I just stuck to various green teas. I did not touch that sachet of Cookie because I was afraid that it was going to be as gross as that other chocolate tea. And this is why it took me freakin forever to try flavoured teas. Like seriously. For nearly 10 years of my life, all I drank was jasmine tea, and the occasional genmaicha when I ate out at japanese restaurants.
I completely regret my previous thoughts about flavoured teas, especially this one because apparently if you’re going to get tea from Lupicia, it’s going to be this one (from what I’ve heard). This was the first tea that was in the monthly newsletter when my mom first signed up all those years ago, and this was the tea that I took with me to college. Did I try it? Nope because I was a pansycake.

WITH THAT BEING SAID. IT IS TIME. I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG??? Everyone says it’s good and I’ve finally let it cool down enough so it wouldn’t burn my mouth.
Dude. It legit tastes like caramel cookies okay. This tea is so freakin good, and I added milk with it which made it soooooo much better.
WHY DID I AVOID THIS TEA FOR SO LONG.

((rearranged this tasting not to have the actual tasting note bit at the top because of the pull quotes and whatnot. I saw a thread on this a while back and figured I’ll have to put the review at the top, then the backstory stuck at the bottom.))

Dude. I’ve gone through so many tea sprees in the past week and I’m expecting swaps to arrive soon and I’m just trying to catch up to everything.
So many WONDERFUL teas, so little time!

That is a great story. I give it an A+.

So I totally had this tea a couple nights ago, but I put the tasting note into Vanilla Oolong, not Vanilla Orchid.

So umm.. do I delete the previous note? Well, it’s here soo…

Hahaha I’d probably just c/p that note into this one and delete the original. Good job, old sport.

drank Ripe Mango Oolong by Lupicia
726 tasting notes

I freakin love oolong because the LEAVES. They’re freakin gorgeous okay and I absolutely LOVE seeing them unravel!
This was a surprise from my parents :) They went to DAVIDs last weekend and took a wee little detour to Lupicia (well, it’s just two floors up so it’s not too bad haha) and they picked this tea up for me!

Oh wow. The smell of this tea dry is so good! I kinda.. started inhaling it deeply and don’t do that. You’ll get dizzy. But just take a small whiff and it smells like mango!! Green mango though. Personally, I prefer the taste of the yellow mango more since it’s more sweet and green mango is bitter but yeah THIS TEA SMELLS LIKE HOME.
I was actually surprised to read on the package that this steeps in boiling water though since I never use boiling for oolongs. Ahh well. I followed the package instructions and some leaves were a bit scorched, but not all.
This tea is like super freakin good though. Like SO GOOD. I love the mango so much. I’m starting to love ALL the Lupicia flavoured teas! This has the nice flavours of green mango, but not the bitterness.
Definitely a great tea :)

Oooo guess who just got the steepster app and is posting this comment from her phone OoooooOooo!!!

oddree

APP!?!?! o_O Also, I think I need to check out Lupicia and Nina’s for sure. Such great reviews!

VariaTEA

Have you had Lupicia’s Melon Oolong yet? I don’t even like oolong but that was amazing!

jump62359

shmiracles, well, I have no idea who you’re talking about, but I’m assuming it’s me?? Right? TOTALLY ;)
odree, yes, there’s a steepster app! It’s in beta testing right now so Jason and the steepster team are slooowly letting people test it out. I’d link you, but I’m on mobile as well! Lupicia is my first love and I was fairly surprised to see that not a lot of people has tried their teas! If you spend $30, you get a free subscription to their monthly newsletter complete with a free sample! US addresses only though. I haven’t had tea from Nina’s yet, but luckily I’m expecting a swap soon and I know there are a couple of Nina’s teas in there!

jump62359

VariaTEA, I haven’t yet! I’m actually just discovering ALL of Lupicia’s teas. I haven’t tried many of their flavoured teas so now I kinda just wanna try them all :)
((And you are said swap partner in the previous comment haha))

VariaTEA

I am taking a Lupicia crash course right now too. I got two swaps so far with a bizillion Lupicia teas which is super exciting. And you are getting Nina’s teas though mostly their caffeine-free ones. Oh, and Japon of course :P. I realized after I sealed your package that I should have included others of their teas.

Sil

oh god. i need this.

jump62359

Rachel, the teas in your package aren’t necessarily caffeine-free, but less caffeine than blacks and stuff ahaha. And I’m definitely drowning in so much Lupicia and David’s right now wow.

Sil, shoot me your address! I’ll send you a wee little sample of this tea if you’d like :)

Tea rating guide:
100-95: Best thing to ever touch my mouth and I want more. Restocking is a must
94-80: Love this tea. Restock if I can
79-70: Decent tea. Neither love nor hate.
69-60: I won’t be upset when it runs out. I’ll drink it but won’t restock.
59-30: I’ve done whatever I can to like this tea and I’ll finish the cup.
29-10: I’ve done whatever I can to like this tea. It may or may not have gone down the sink…
9-below: Let’s not even hide it. This definitely went down the drain.

I love tea.
I drink it.
I log it.
I have a good time.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

I first discovered my love for tea with jasmine teas because that’s all my mother would buy, so for the longest time, I thought that all teas were jasmine! And then in 4th grade, I watched the tea episode of Good Eats and that’s when the education started! I’d like to blame Alton Brown for starting this obsession because now I only like loose leaf tea.
It wasn’t until my second year of college that I actually expanded my tea taste buds. Special shout out to Cara McGee, Tea Queen for her Adagio Fandom blends. Because of Cara, I actually started drinking blacks, herbals and whites and pretty much everything else in between. I still have a special love for my jasmine though :)
I (try to) drink tea daily. Usually just straight up, no sugar or milk. This little obsession started young and just… kept going, I guess.

also I apologize in advance for lazy tasting notes and horrible grammar in everything I write. I was an avid fandom blogger on tumblr and tumblr talk can get in the way of everything kthxbai
