343 Tasting Notes

I received a very generous sample of this from my Secret Pumpkin! I’m trying to get rid of a cold at home and hoping that adding extra spice will clear out some of the ickiness I’m dealing with. Della Terra doesn’t seem to sell this anymore but I think it was available last fall?

I used 2.5 teaspoons in my 16oz steeping mug and steeped for the recommended 2-3 minutes (well 3 actually). I added a touch of sweetener though the blend contains pop rocks.

I’m not a huge fan of cinnamon, but as a child when my mom let me, I absolutely loved Big Red gum and this is pretty darn close. I might be losing a bit of the flavor due to said cold but I can definitely feel a bit of burn on the roof of my mouth!

Definitely need to up my rating for this. I have been drinking nothing but this at work for the last couple of days. I thought I would give it a try with the horrific allergies I was having. Between the cinnamon in Stormy Night and some nasal mist, my sinus passages are tons better. I even finished the portion I had made to keep at work!

I portioned some more of to take in with me tomorrow and I can feel the bottom of my bag (which is crazy since I bought the 250gram enormous bag when this was on sale). Granted, I’ve given out quite a few samples of this, especially when I thought I hated it! Now that I really like it, I’m worried I’ll run out before winter is over.

So in case you didn’t see my last tasting note, the key with Stormy Night is overleafing it! And, if you happen to have sinus issues, I highly recommend giving this a try. With enough leaf (and a bit of sweetener), it does taste like Mexican Hot Chocolate. Also, I’ve left this steeping at work on my desk only to run to a meeting and it manages to not get astringent.

Major thanks to 20monkies for swapping with me and sending some of this! Mmm… it’s banana and oolong, two of my favorite things. I’m currently on my second steep and the leaves have nearly fully unfurled. I used just around 2tsp in my 16oz steeping mug. Very happy I have some of this in my possession!

This is actually growing on me. I still doesn’t really taste like pineapple, but it’s a nice caffeine free drink to sip at night before going to bed. I add a touch of sweetener and it’s pretty darn tasty. Might have to look into buying more of this as I’m quickly whittling away the 1 ounce bag I originally bought.

I ordered the mystery pack from Della Terra with my last order and this was one of the 2oz packs. I was expecting to hate this. Just in case, I added some sweetener to the mix and it actually made it pretty tasty. It reminds me of lemon drops with a tiny bit of kick at the end. I used 2.5 teaspoons in my 16oz steeping mug. I’ll probably wind up sampling the majority of this out but it’s not too bad!

Like Short Sorceress, I found this very weakly flavored. I used 2.5 teaspoons for my 16oz steeping mug and steeped for 4 minutes. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as tasty as it sounded on the package. One thing I can appreciate is the mint didn’t overpower the other flavors, but I far prefer Read My Lips from Davidstea to this. It just doesn’t even compare (ignoring the whole different base thing).

I order a whole bunch of the seasonal collection from Della Terra during their last sale, due in part to the secret pumpkin that BrewTEAlly Sweet is organizing.

I used nearly 3 teaspoons for my 16oz steeping mug and I let it sit for 4 minutes. What I got (after the candy bugs disintegrated) was a rather unremarkable vanilla rooibos; which, aside from the bit of creamy mouth-feel due to the cream additive reminded me of the cheaper and easily accessible Numi Rooibos that I sampled while at the in-laws.

It’s not super pricey or anything, but I was expecting more oomph. Into the swap box it goes.

I have to say, figuring this tea out was a challenge and also incredibly rewarding. I use two generous teaspoons in my work mug and adding a touch of sweetener rewards me of something close to mexican hot chocolate. Maybe it’s growing on me or maybe my sinuses are so bad that I need the spicy kick. Either way, I’ve warmed towards this tea as it’s gotten colder and I’ve been drinking it over my Davidstea Jasmine Pearls. That’s saying something.

This is a decent dessert tea and I prefer it over the Adagio Valentines that I also have in my cupboard. The only unfortunate difference right now is that this one is discontinued and the Adagio’s is still available. The black tea that Della Terra uses, seems to be much lighter than some of the other brands (also Adagio). I enjoyed my cup of this, but it didn’t really scream sundae to me.

Yum yum yum yum. Had a big cold glass of this after coming home (and sitting in traffic for over an hour). I’m going to go down for another. It’s just so nice and refreshing. I wish Davidstea would make this permanent like they did the pink passion fruit!

Bio

I recently discovered loose leaf tea and am already addicted (much to my husband’s dismay)! I prefer fruity teas iced and savory teas hot. Looking forward to drinking and chatting.

Some likes/dislikes I’ve been noticing:

Likes:
Pineapple
Jasmine
Fruity White Teas
lighters Blacks
Most Oolongs (especially greener varieties)
dessert teas
tisanes iced that don’t require added sweetener

Dislikes:
Spicy flavors unless in chai
astringent black teas
heavy ginger teas
teas with licorice (as primary ingredients – somehow I like some where the licorice is in the back drop)
heavily oxidized oolongs

For my own reference, I’m only placing “full size” teas in my cupboard.
