1759 Tasting Notes
A friend took me out for Valentine’s the other day and this is what I ordered. I’d have to brew it up myself to really figure it out.
The pot was too large so by the time I got to the bottom it was quite bitter. Also the cups were somewhat smaller than I am used to and it came with cubes of sugar! so I couldn’t modify the input properly. Bah. It was pretty tasty. Very sweet with one cube. I tried with half and that was loads better. However I still haven’t got a picture of what “elderberry” tastes like. It was super intense, so if I had to guess I’d say it was somewhere in between strawberry and blackberry. Hmmm.
Well geeze. One thing I’m coming to dislike about this tea, atleast this batch, is the remarkable lack of consistency. The last cup I had was almost entirely devoid of Jasmine, which suited me just fine since I really don’t do well in the tummy when it’s overly present. So when the cup I made up this morning had a significant amount of Jasmine in both the aroma and flavour, I was not impressed.
I do really love my Christmas Morning, but when it’s double doused with Jasmine like this, I get a little grumpy! harumph
This was interesting. Good! I imagine it’s called Sailors Delight due to the fact it actually has flavours associated with fruits known to have vitamin C in it. Which made me think of citrus. So when I saw Strawberry in TeaBrat’s description, it made me think twice. I think I need to have another cuppa :)
Thanks for the sample TeaBrat!! This is quite yummy. I just haven’t decided in what way, fruit wise. yet. haha
Well. I seriously enjoyed this cup. Yum! Thank you Tea at Sea for the sample.
It’s very crisp, the way I’ve noticed high grown or first flush teas usually are. I see this level of quality more often in Darjeeling teas, so it was nice to see it applied to a different region.
At first, I tried it straight. It was quite nice. But I found I preferred it with a bit of milk. It seemed to bring out the mild malty note hanging way in the back. Almost like a “green” tobacco, the way it was paired with the apple note I noticed every now and then. I like it!
Preparation
Sample Sipdown!! Haha! I’m now at 285. Not as bad as I had feared. But I need to get it down again. Had really hoped to be down at 250 by the time the tea festival rolled around but stuff got in the way, as it always seems to :P
Thanks to Sil for the sample! (yeah, it’s been awhile, I know!)
This is good!! I can really taste the candied pecan note, and a touch of cocoa. Not so much floral. Not something I’d want every day, but it certainly makes for a wonderful treat. I’d recommend it to any tea lover who wanted to try something unique and fresh.
Preparation
Thanks TeaBrat for the sample!!
This was… interesting. I really like the coconut part, that was nice. The puerh was ok, but dusty, like the dust you’d get in a horse pen. Not entirely unpleasant. I think a rinse might help.
Sadly, I didn’t notice any cacao. Where oh where are you, you cacao note?
This is quite delicious, but I think it should be renamed Carrot Cupcake Chai, as it’s a little spicy. In a good way. That said, it still reminds me very much of carrot cake, only a not so mild one.
The spices are blended nicely, and it goes well with milk. A comforting cup. OH!! I also feel like there is some sort of “icing” component here. Perhaps that’s the coconut/vanilla addition? Either way, I had a heaven moment there when sipping away. Yum!
So. This was supposed to go to someone I know but I had ordered a bunch of stuff for various people when Mum went to Florida last year, and then she forgot them there so had to wait three months to bring them back on the next trip… and then my email got deleted so I’m not sure who… (facebook changed their settings and all of a sudden things were moved around)
Anyhow, if it was you, or if I’m mistaken and it was another tea I owe you from the Spice Exchange, please let me know! Hope ya don’t mind that I sampled it!!
It’s been in my cupboard for over a year now, I asked around before and nobody has claimed it… so speak up or I’ll forever hold your tea ;)
Would be a shame to lose out on this one, whoever you are.
oh, can’t wait to try mine!!! working my way through samples first =0)
Go for it! I put it off for so long cuz I wasn’t sure what to expect. Now I regret waiting
This one is truly festive for me. I drink it as a nice comforting broth, it truly is a mix of sweet and savoury, isn,t it? And I was so sure to hate it, but it turned out to be one if my favourites from Butiki.
I know right? I thought I’d hate it too but I ended up in love :P
I have been very hesitant to try this one, but maybe I should just say what the heck and try it already!
Depending on what you add to this tea a little sugar or pinch of salt you could have 2 versions of latkes. I like it salted
Tigress, go for it! It’s worth it :)
Boychick, ha! I hadn’t thought about that! Will have to try it salted when I finally order some
