Lipton chamomile/pineapple pyramid bags (snipped open) + bulk lemongrass = the potential of a really nice spring/summer cooling tea (even when it’s warm). The lemongrass is absolutely compatible, but I will need to up the proportions or increase steeping time to tip the balance in its favor.

Nice nutty afternoon cuppa. All the flavors are very subtle and understated; I get a lot more almond than I do vanilla. But it’s not a bitter almond (as in Adagio, which I never could get quite right.)

I don’t usually wake up craving anything but heavy black tea, but it’s a lovely sunny morning, i woke up to birds and sunlight instead of an alarm clock (a gift in itself!) and in a flight of fancy, started the day with this, which is in my itsallabouttheleaf.com review box.

More comments when I write a real review, but I think I actually steeped it properly (no small accomplishment for a morning tea slob!) so that I can accurately assess it.

Now I’m jealous of your morning!

So, sometimes you just have to take the basket of bits-and-bops pouches and just empty it out on the floor or table to see what’s there … and when you do, you find wonderful and lovely surprises like this.

With half-and-half, this is creamy and sweet and good. If I had any self-control whatsoever, it would be sufficient for dessert without any dessert. (But when your son puts three birthday cake Oreos directly in your hand…)

Usually, I add milk as the “whipped cream and a cherry on top,” not as an essential ingredient, but this one continues to be strong and dark and acidic enough it just needs a little softening. But for BBB lovers, it’s definitely one to add to your library.

The caffeine kick is welcome. Word count goal for the day is a little daunting. Just 2100 words, but they need to be constructive and comprehensible to fourth graders. Grade level thesaurus, Tommy Emmanuel on Pandora … here we go!

gmathis

Changed the channel on Pandora, and I believe I have a new favorite ever…Barenaked Ladies children’s albums! I’m singing “Rainbow Connection” with the Dixie Chicks right now. (Has absolutely nothing to do with my choice of beverage, but I know some of you would appreciate that!)

Dylan Oxford

The Barenaked Ladies children’s songs are ridiculously awesome. You could also check out They Might Be Giant’s, they have actually put out three or four children’s cds now (Science and No! are the highlights in my head).

And, if you’re looking for something a little more wacky, you could check out the Dino-5 album, Baby Loves Hip Hop. It aims for sub-school-age children though, but quite amusing. A sample, courtesy of Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016O64VI/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk11

Enjoy :)

Oh, yeah—when I taught kids’ choir a few years ago, their special “fun” treat was singing “Vi-O-LIN, LIN, LIN!” at the top of their lungs. Appreciate the leads…my baby is now 18, so I’m a little rusty on preschool culture.

Tina S.

BNL’s 7-8-9 is one of my all time favourite songs they did!

Dinosara

Fun fact: TMBG’s “I am a Paleontologist” song on Here Comes Science was written about me!

gmathis

We are in the presence of a celebrity! How cool is that! (Would love to hear the backstory.)

Dylan Oxford

That’s awesome Dinosara, we definitely need to hear the story!

ashmanra

Ditto on the backstory! :) We love BNL and TMBG!

Dylan Oxford

Assuming that we’re not being horribly nosy and prying into your life, of course ;)

K S

Even if we are horribly nosy we still want to here it.

Missy

I second the, “I want to hear the story!”

Dinosara

Haha, I wouldn’t have mentioned if it I couldn’t tell the story. :) Basically I am a huge fan and have been to enough concerts that the bassist (Danny) noticed me and the dinosaur t-shirts I used to wear to shows. One time he asked me and I said that I was a paleontologist, and he said that his son loves dinosaurs and wants to be one as well. We had a short conversation about paleontology, and when he saw me he would ask how it was going. Fast forward several years and I hear he has written a song called “I am a Paleontologist”. When I finally got to see them again I of course told him I liked the song and he said “I was thinking about you when I wrote it.” Total fan nirvana.

Another interesting fact is that Danny is trained as a physical therapist, and actually went to PT school at the school where I am a grad student. My department (Anatomy) teaches human gross anatomy to the PT students (among others), so it was funny talk about our faculty who he remembers teaching it!

gmathis

Love it—had to go round it up on YouTube for a listen!

Dylan Oxford

Haha, that’s pretty awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Missy

Yes thanks for sharing! Interesting tidbit up there.

ashmanra

Too cool!

A schmoe evening…I have a bunch of toys out on the floor (large plastic iguana and a bunch of Pokemon tops) trying to figure out what my Sunday kids and I will be doing with them in a couple of days. (Yes, I know you’re supposed to study the material and then figure out the teaching gimmick, not the other way around.) …the schmoe part is that I’m really just piddling and not getting anything done.

But thinking about my batch of 10-year-olds is making me think about a batch of cookies, and since it’s really too late to start baking and I sort of snarfed the last of the E.L. Fudge Double Stuffs in a sugar and carb-craving haze, this is a fair alternative. Enough sweet to stave off the munchies.

My pouch of this decaf has had a hard life, storm survivor and all, and may just be losing its edge due to freshness issues. It’s still “eh” OK when I’m not in the mood for an evening herbal. I’m a lot less enthusiastic about it than when I first tried it.

I do wish I could fall upon a decaf black tea that doesn’t seem like a wimpy substitute for the good stuff. I’ve tried winkle-tinkling my nose like Samantha on Bewitched and I just can’t make it appear.

Indigobloom

If you ever find that non wimpy decaf let me know! I’ve been on the hunt for ages…

ashmanra

Indigo: Harney’s Decaffeinated ( just plain ole’ decaffeinated) is actually pretty good! It is stronger than Decaf Ceylon from A Southern Season and we liked that one. I tried the decaf Assam and it was TERRIBLE. I think Ceylons just decaf well or something, but at SS it is pretty pricey.

Indigobloom

Hmmm, really? one day I’ll try it! thanks for the tip. Too bad, I love Assam

Tried with a little half-and-half this morning, and all I’m getting is the milk. Back to straight up next time.

Took some wise advice and lightened up considerably on the leaf and the steep time—just a couple of minutes—and this one is much better now.

I still can’t pick out any individual fruit/flower/spice flavors, it just tastes “purple,” but now it’s a clean grapey purple instead of bitter, muddy purple.

ashmanra

If it tastes like Dimetapp, I must get some.

gmathis

Don’t laugh … there might be some similarities …
