Wow, I bought this back in the spring and still haven’t talked about it. But hey, what’s new. I’m not too crazy about the scent of the dry leaf, to be honest. Just generically creamy. I was hoping for some nutmeg or spicy warmth.

Interestingly enough, this time, the steeped tea smells exceptionally milky. Like those flavoured steamed milk beverages. Flavour-wise, I get a touch of milkiness with the slightly vegetal base. Not too vegetal, thankfully. Man I sound whiny with this one.

Yeah, not my favourite Butiki blend but it’s still a gentle blend to grab when you don’t feel like something too strongly flavoured. I can see people who like hot milk like this tea too.

Stacy was so kind to surprise me with a prototype of this back before this was released and I instantly fell in love with its creamy delectable scent and taste. I’m so glad I picked some up.

Aww, my mom just took a sip of hers and said, “Yum.” There you have it.

But yeah, it’s like a strawberry cream-filled chocolate. Don’t get the mocha aspect as much but strawberry cream-filled chocolate notes shine through. I oversteeped this and it didn’t turn bitter. I might have even overleafed too since I’m drinking this in my new R2-D2 mug (OMG, my new Star Wars mugs are THE BEST) which is bigger than the average mug so I just dumped a bunch of leaf into a filter. The tea is a lot more forgiving than I would have expected.

In other news, I tried making a Dammann Frères order the other day but my bank is refusing to complete the transaction? I have more than enough money on my CC, plus I recently used it to make a Sephora order and it worked no problem too. Maybe my bank doesn’t trust Dammann and is refusing payment? Maybe the securecode thing is glitchy? Ugh. But I want that advent calendar! Off to the bank tomorrow to see what’s up but I can guarantee they’ll pass me off to someone else who will pass me off to someone else who will tell me to call and make me spend $20+ on my pay as you go phone.

Daddyselephant

Yay for the Star Wars mugs!!

Cameron B.

I want Star Wars mugs! :)

Kittenna

Ooooh, that advent calendar looks fun.

Cameron B.

I just bought my DF calendar tonight, hooray! :D

Fjellrev

Thanks to aisling for introducing me to the Star Wars awesomeness!

Awesome that you were able to pick one up, Cameron! My bank still refuses to comply. :(

It’s been over a month and I still haven’t gotten my Strawberry Cream cacao tea. Huh.

This tea smells like straight up freshly squeezed lemon. I get no discernible grapefruit in scent or flavour. The base is pretty good, quite floral. Methinks this would make a better cold brew. Hot, it’s not doing much for me.

Sil

Wow… A month

Fjellrev

Very tempting to file a PayPal dispute.

OMGsrsly

There’s a time limit for a PayPal dispute, FYI. All it does is open urgent communication, and if they ignore it then you get your money back. If they respond, then awesome.

Fjellrev

I know, I have another ten days or so left to do it.

Sil

just do it. i’m so tired of their crap… lol

OMGsrsly

:) I did it with another tea company, and they got back to me right away. They weren’t answering their regular email, so I don’t really feel bad about it. So… good luck, whatever you decide to do!

Fjellrev

That’s great that they got back to you. Hmm, maybe wait one more day? The first package didn’t have my main tea, the second one was apparently sent 13 days ago but still hasn’t arrived despite the first one arriving in 9 days. Have until the 14th to file a PayPal dispute.

OMGsrsly

No tracking # or shipping notice? :(

Fjellrev

Nope, I was told that if the second package doesn’t show up they’ll send a third one with tracking. The second package was supposedly sent on the 20th or so and nothing has shown up even though the first one (missing my 100g of cacao) took a little over a week to arrive. Nothing in the mail today again. So perhaps I should email again and if something isn’t sent with tracking ASAP I’ll file a dispute.

So behind in writing about these older newer Butiki teas. I got this right when it came out and have been semi-hoarding it. Melted Werther’s in a cup, peeps. I get a smidgen of mocha but no hazelnut. And the base is oh soooo smooth. This will be my only way of trying the infamous White Rhino. So stupid for not grabbing any when I placed my most recent order. Always forgetting stuff!

This makes such a comforting cup now that it’s getting colder outside.

Sil

My order went missing….so my white rhino doesn’t get to come to me :(

Fjellrev

Is that the final outcome? CP aren’t trying to hunt it down?

Out of the three that came in this set, I was looking forward to this one the most since I’m always looking for a yummy desserty peppermint. The smell of the tea is quite disappointing. It’s heavy on the black. Was hoping for more peppermint than actual tea leaves. Plus the peppermint smells more medicinal than candy-like, leaning towards eucalyptus.

The smell of the steeped tea smells more like candy cane, however. Tastes like a muted peppermint with standard bagged black tea.

Three cups of black tea in the morning an an empty stomach. Not a good idea.

Right off the bat, this one smells better than their Holiday Spice. It has a ginger pow and nothing much more. Maybe a hint of sweetness but nothing that says “I’M GINGERBREAD!” The ginger aroma transfers in flavour too. But again, tastes like some other random bagged tea I’ve had in the past. Actually, these spicy bagged teas make me want Bigelow’s chais. Those are actually better than this, especially their caramel chai, if I remember correctly.

Oh yeah, so how was everyone’s Halloween? I went to David’s to pick up their special sample but by the time I got there, they were all out. Apparently they were out by 4pm. Serves me right for not checking until 8pm.

Oh, Steepster, uploading photos upside down now are you? So strange. I picked up a set of three teas at Winners (I’m beginning to think they’re never going to get Fauchon ever again). Cute packaging but I’m not expecting much because they’re bagged and some random brand you never see anywhere. This is basically just a cinnamon black tea. It’s alright. With half and half, it reminds me of the chai you can get at Tim Hortons when ordered with cream.

Not bad, not bad. Not as heavy on the vegetable notes as other teas. Ever so slightly roasty, but I prefer roastier teas à la genmaicha, hojicha, etc. Three minute steep yielded a bright yellow-green liquor and it didn’t go bitter. Slight natural sweetness. I wouldn’t get more since it’s not my style but overall it behaves well and has a great balance of flavours.

Mmm, tasty sip down. Sharing the last two cups worth with my mom. She’s truly enjoying these Butiki blends and are helping her recover from surgery. Thanks, Stacy. :)

Ginger and strawberry is such a pretty combination. It’s pretty, yes.

Ohhh, this is amazing. With Stacy’s retirement around the corner, I was prompted to order a ton of it and not hoard the 2 oz. I have already (plus I already went through 1 oz. of it in a previous order and still managed to not write about it until now).

The leaves smell out of this world, like lemon pie with a sliver of almond. I’m on my third steep (which I raaaaaarely do, so you know I want to stretch out a tea when I start resteeping) and while it’s already noticeably subtler in lemon sugar flavour, the base isn’t going bitter or wonky on me.

My mom isn’t normally a tea person. But you know what? When she smelled this and heard Stacy is shuttin’ ’er down, she told me to snap up twelve freaking ounces, six each. That is how good this is, just so you know.

CHAroma

I’m seriously going to spend somewhere around $130-200 on a Butiki order. I wish she’d sell the business instead of just shutting it down. She’s one of my all-time favorite tea vendors.

Fjellrev

Yeah, mine easily came to around $150, and that was being stingy with some of the blends. Selling the business is a great idea. There will never be another Stacy. EVAR.

CHAroma

Let’s all bombard her with e-mails to sell!

Sil

I don’t know that I’d trust her teas and vision in the hands of another…
