Le Creuset Kettle
Does anyone have experience with the Le Creuset kettles? I recently discovered them, and I think the demi ( http://bit.ly/cML25y ) is just adorable.
I’ve had a KitchenAid for about ten years now… and it still works great, but a) my mom purchased it (for me) in the color that matched her kitchen at the time, since I was living at home, and b) I may have left the burner on the other day and melted the enamel on the bottom to the stovetop. It’s seen better days.
Any stovetop kettle recommendation are appreciated… I might just get another KitchenAid, but in a better color.
I don’t have the kettle but about 95% of my cookware is Le Creuset. I just love their products. Great quality, just heavy since most of what I have is enameled cast iron. The cookware heats up quickly and evenly which is something I truly appreciate. It is pretty expensive but it the last cookware set I will ever buy.
I don’t have any experience with them, except for pining after them :) I have an old, inexpensive kettle at home, but if it ever breaks (!!!). The handle fell off it the other night but I was able to fix it with the screw driver – I was a little sad ;)
I have one, and I like it a lot. If you are not concerned with the color, Home Goods always has them on discount after Christmas. They are solid kettles.
Went and looked at a bunch of Le Creuset, KitchenAid, and other sorts of kettles today… every last one of them has vinyl/plastic/black synthetic material of some sort on the lid, handle, and spout. My old KitchenAid is completely metal, aside from a bit of rubber gripping on the handle. Is there some sort of benefit to this, or are they getting cheap?
That is such a beautiful kettle. I was oogling over one on amazon, the lime green one. I have read nothing but great reviews on amazon. I am flies to honey when I see them at kitchen stores. But one of these days I will splurge on it. I noticed that with the black plastic around everything, I didn’t like it either.
Ah… I don’t know if the old kettle we had was a KitchenAid, or Le Creuset…
I want to lean towards the latter, because I know a majority of the cookware in our kitchen is that brand, (my mother being Belgian, my sister having managed at Sur La Table, a French cooking store). The kettle didn’t quite look like that, but the coloring was the same, and my family had it as long as I could remember, until I killed it by leaving it on the burner for like an hour…
I don’t remember having any problems with it. Ever.

I keep both in the tearoom next to me, so when I’m doing tea with guests (or relaxing alone) I don’t have to keep running out of the room to get water.
