Tea in Toronto

I’ve just landed in Toronto, and I would like to check out tea shops around town. Recommendations? I’m staying downtown.

Places that sell loose leaf and also places that do a nice afternoon tea would be awesome.

Have fun in Toronto. I’m not local so I shouldn’t be offering advice, but if I WERE IN TO – Tao Tea Leaf would be really high on the list of places to go….. love their tea….

Analina, I haven’t been to a lot of these places but these are some of the ones I know about.

As far as going to tea there are a number of places includinghttp://www.windsorarmshotel.com/tearoom/
http://www.omnihotels.com/hotels/toronto-king-edward/dining/afternoon-tea
For formal teas. There are lots of places that will do tea and pastries.

A few other options here http://www.travelandescape.ca/2013/06/top-5-afternoon-teas-in-toronto/
As far as stores here are a few: http://www.taotealeaf.com/contact/

There are many more options. That’s just a few to get you started.

If you want Marriage Frères you can check out Balzac’s they have the best prices for the timehttp://www.balzacs.com/locations/

This is new and looks fun. http://www.bampottea.com/about/

Whole Foods carries Rishi, Tealish & Nourish Tea. There’s one on Avenue Road http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/store-locations?store=6788
However, you might have already had one in your area. They’re all over.

I second heading to Tealish, they are wonderful! And there’s a place near Jane Subway station called Say Tea. Their teas are kept in big glass jars, but the prices are good and they have an amazing amount of teaware. http://www.sayteaonbloor.com/

Omg, today I went to Tao Tea Leaf and I wanted to buy all the things. And then I went to House of Tea and also wanted to buy all the things.

I bought a lot of sample sizes at Tao, and one 100g bag and a couple of free samples from House of Tea. Also stopped in at Golden Mint briefly but didn’t really have time to look too much.

Holy crap are there ever a lot of tea shops in Toronto!

Glad you had fun!

Thanks! I’m definitely not done yet. I have another five days here and so far not much to do on two of those days. More tea shopping it is!

Glad you’re enjoying! Are you planning on checking out Chinatown for teaware? Which tea did you get 100g of at Tao Tea Leaf? I’m curious!

Just want to say, if you go to Tealish, you MUST try the Lemon Meringue It’s my fav!

Ooooh, yes, Chinatown! Just give it a wander and you will find so much teaware! When my brother came up a few years ago, I took him on a tea buying tour of Toronto. Davids, Tealish, Say Tea, and a full day spent wandering Chinatown!

Ubacat, sorry my writing was kind of unclear. I picked up a 100g bag at House of Tea – Grapefruit Mint Rooibos, because it smelled incredible.

Any recommendations for specific teas from Tealish or Say Tea?

Tealish – Rainbow Rooibos and Razzmintazz (tastes like blue raspberry icees!) Oh AND their Milk Oolong is one of my favorites. My wife wholeheartedly seconds the lemon meringue recommendation. Bella Berry is delish too. But Razzmintazz is my favorite ever.

Oh and Ginger Sparkle is my wife’s can’t-live-without-it tea.

I got Rainbow Rooibos, Razmintazz, Lemon Meringue and a sample of Coconut Bongo. :)

I wish they did smaller amounts than 50g. I would have tried more.

Yay! I knew there was something I forgot to warn you about, sorry! I hope you like ones you got. Isn’t the store adorable?

Sounds like you got a great assortment!

On a not-so-tea-related note, you should also check out our Zoo. We can see the Zoo from our condo and go out about once a month, it is a wonderful beautiful place. We’re headed out there today! (crazy, I know, the weather will be awful, but that means less crowds and different animals will the active)

I probably won’t have time to do so on this trip but I will keep it in mind for next time.

Woah, I have no self control. I think at this point, I literally have an entire grocery bag full of new tea.

At The Tea Emporium I got Keemun Panda, Yunnan Imperial ad Dung Ti Formosa Oolong.

At Say Tea I got Monk’s Blend, Cheery Bomb Rooibos, Georgian Village black, Jasmine Goji Oolong, Wuji Mountain Milk Oolong, Ceylon Green, Wild Blueberry black, Say Tea Private Blend, Hint of Smoke Earl Grey and Soursap black.

I still want to go poke around Chinatown for tea wares, but I think no more visits to loose tea shops.

I laughed so hard when I saw this, I so understand that feeling. We used to live just one subway stop down from Jane Station and Say Tea ate a good portion of our paychecks XD. I am just thrilled that my recommendations worked out for you.

Have fun in Chinatown!
