Theodor Raising Prices on 2/15/21

Woke up to an email from Theodor this morning that has me wondering if I should place an order (although to be honest it really doesn’t take much these days to break my will and indulge in ordering more tea). The summary is they are raising their prices in a month, so if you were on the fence about ordering this news might sway you. Here is what they wrote:

GREETINGS FOR 2021!

The whole THEODOR house team is sending you their best greetings and their most sincere thoughts for this new year 2021!
We are glad to start it at your side, may it be filled with smiles, joy, success, but also laughs, little and big pleasures, delicious tea times and above all may it be on the theme of health for you and you loved ones.

But next to these greetings, we were keen to also share with you an important information, in the spirit of a fully transparent communication with you:
Given this health context related to Covid-19 and the consequences it involved on our costs generally speaking, we wanted to inform you that our retail prices are going to have to evolve soon on our online shop, on next February 15th.

We would have loved to share different news with you, nevertheless, be assured that we always try our best to limit the most these repercussions on your favorite blends, which is one of the reasons why our prices remained unchanged for more than three years.
However, during the past year, tea like most raw materials, has experienced important rises (which can sometimes go up to three digits to tell you the truth), without mentioning other costs like transport and supply and among others… that is why we couldn’t do otherwise.

Let’s transform this information into an opportunity: also, we decided that these new prices will only be applicable starting from February 15th, 2021, so that you can take advantage of this period, to let you some time to place your orders and restock your blends for this early 2021, while still benefitting from the current prices for a few weeks.

PRICE INCREASE ON FEBRUARY 15th?

I ENJOY IT BEFORE !

Besides, due to this setting up, our online shop will be inaccessible on Monday, February 15th and maybe Tuesday, February, 16th, 2021. It leaves you one month starting from the receipt of this communication to place your orders, knowing that after February 15th, the new prices will be in effect.

Finally, in full transparency and if it can reassure you, please know that, for all that, we contain at best the impact on your prices, as we are aware of the economic realities for all of us, that this evolution is going to stay reasonable for you and that it will not necessarily concern all the teas.
Some of them will stay at the same price or can even be lower when it is possible, like we always do as we don’t use any “marketing price”, our prices are calculated based on our raw materials and real costs.

We wanted to share this information with you in full transparency so that you can also benefit from it.
Happy New Year, tea lovers,

See you soon,
THEODOR House

So… group order? :D

Sad to hear that another tea have to raise prices, but I understand it. Maybe I could spend some money on tea…

Maybe, if enough people are interested and someone is willing to organize it.

I got the mail, decided to do an order. I thought I had LOTS of time but decided to get it done with. I tried to put 375 grams of Thé du Loup in my shopping basket, the 125 grams were out, I then tried 500 grams, well I bought the last 250 grams, sorry you all but I need it (it run out about a month ago). I got a few extras as well. If you are going to order, and their prices are not bad since it is usually for 125 grams, do not wait too long because they might run out…

I got Thé du Loup, Laponic Black (a year round favorite), Je t´aime, a few others…

I just saw that Peche Mignon was sold out in the smaller bag I had in my cart. :(

I placed an order as well. I was worried the items I wanted would be sold out. I bought 16 teas to add to the 20 Theodor teas I already have. I might as well have a separate physical cupboard for Theodor now.

36 is more than me! I have finished a lot of their teas though. I have rebought a few several times, Thé du Loup, Milky Oolong, Laponic Black, and a few others…

I have repurchased the JE Milky Oolong before. This time it was Sans Complexe and Melange O that were reorders. The rest were a few I knew I liked and wanted and several that sounded good, but I haven’t tried.

If anyone is interested in splitting any of the teas I got, let me know and I’ll post what I ordered. I really don’t need 1,950g of tea all to myself.

I might be interested in splitting some of them with you. I’ve been curious about them for a while now.

I’m interested! I was considering placing an order, but I just can’t justify the large quantities.

I’d have an interest in getting smaller sizes. I have never tried any French teas because I refuse to order 100g or larger sizes.

I would take a look too, but I know that shipping overseas is a bit tricky. Maybe just some small sample sizes? :D

Awesome! I need to figure out how much I want to keep out of each, but I’m thinking 50g (maybe a little more on the two I know I love).
Here is what I ordered:
PÊCHÉ MIGNON 125g
PERSEUS 125g
LAPSANG SOUCHONG 125g
C’EST SYMPATHIQUE 125g
VOULEZ-VOUS 125g
HISTOIRE TIBÉTAINE 125g
SAÏGON 125g
MÉLANGE DE GALICE 125g
COURS MIRABEAU 125g
COÏNCIDENCE BLACK 125g
PETITE OURSE 125g
MÉLANGE Ô 125g
SANS COMPLEXE 125g
OH LÀ LA 100g
J.C. ABSOLU OOLONG 100g
COMME TU LE SAIS 100g

I also have Jour J, Phoenix and Scandale from a year ago that I’m either not that into or aren’t going through fast enough.

I would like to try PÊCHÉ MIGNON, Saigon and Voulez-Vous. 25 grams of each would be more than generous I think.

I am craving flavoured greens recently ;)

I’m interested in 25g or less of these:
PÊCHÉ MIGNON
PERSEUS
MÉLANGE DE GALICE
COÏNCIDENCE BLACK
OH LÀ LA
MÉLANGE Ô
J.C. ABSOLU OOLONG
COMME TU LE SAIS
LAPSANG SOUCHONG
HISTOIRE TIBÉTAINE

I’d love to try these if you have enough (just 25g please!):
PERSEUS
C’EST SYMPATHIQUE
SAÏGON
MÉLANGE DE GALICE
SANS COMPLEXE
J.C. ABSOLU OOLONG

I’m perfectly content with just single-serve samples of anything available to that, as I’ve never tried French tea before. No interest in the smoked Lapsang Souchong as that is a migraine trigger for me. If the hibi in VOULEZ-VOUS isn’t to your liking, I could take more of that one off your hands.

Ok, I think I can make all that work. Looks like it shipped out today. Hopefully it arrives quickly!
I’ll be sure to taste the Voulez-Vous before shipping tea off. I’m curious if they will be one of the companies that uses the hib in moderation!

I feel like we need a call for when an order has arrived. The tea cup has landed? Anyways, the order got here today! Can those who wanted in on this order PM me your address if I don’t already have it so I can figure out shipping?

Pictures of the tea glory here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKkyF5hgGWt/

It’s always exciting when tea mail arrives. Sent you a PM with my mailing address.

Dustin said

The arrival excitement is probably half the reason I order tea these days! I blame covid for making life so bleak that I’m actually trying to buy happiness and then drink it. :D

As long as it’s working! Tea has definitely been my coping mechanism throughout 2020.

Looks supercute! Writing a PM now.
EDIT: can’t! You aren’t following me Dustin :)

Dustin said

Appologies, Martin. I thought I already followed you. Following now!

I thought too! Nevermind, PM sent!

I got my order today and wow, opening a sealed packet and doing that first brew is just special. I think I found a new staple (Chamann!) and Place Saint Marc is better than I thought. I love Thé du Loup more than ever. And I still got a lot to try.

This tea order is really cheering me up at a very dreary, dangerous and dull time.
