Oolong hand processing for small growers
Does anyone have a method of hand processing organic oolong tea for a small grower (about two hundred plants)? Especially interested in lengths of time during the different stages of process.
Can make green and black teas, want to expand my horizons. Am in North Carolina growing mainly plants from Lipton and Chinese varieties grown from seed.
I have no idea how to hand process tea, but you might try reaching out to Taiwanese oolong vendors, who are often present during the processing stage. I think it’s mostly done by machine nowadays, but they might be able to give you an idea. Maybe try Tea Masters or Eco-Cha, who sometimes post info about tea processing on their blogs. Renegade Tea from Georgia also makes oolongs, though I’m not sure if they do it by hand or by machine.

Part of what am trying to do is made more interesting by the search of information, much can be found but does take a bit of looking but thank goodness for the internet. There is much to learn, just wish had started earlier in life.
