Bamboo Sheng

To my more experienced Pu friends:

Not too long ago I watched a video about how bamboo pu’er is made – tamping the leaves down into the bamboo, which is then roasted over a charcoal fire. It was fascinating. The tea looks fascinating. Ever since then I can’t stop thinking about it and I really want to try it. I’ve never ordered from Chawangshop, but they had a 2007 Naka Qiao Mu that I had on my wishlist, but of course I waited too long to pull the trigger and now it’s gone. They have a few other types/brands, but none are reviewed here. Yunnan Sourcing has a few, but the reviews on the site were not stellar. Is it just a gimmick or is it something worth trying? If so, does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks!

I’ve had this one http://www.jkteashop.com/2011-autumn-handmade-traditional-naka-bamboo-raw-pu-er-tea-p-704.html It was a little while ago, but I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it.

Bamboo stuffed is really a “craft” tea, by that I mean a local farm product. The tea often has rough processing, and lower quality leaf. I don’t really think you’re missing out on anything. You can find bamboo teas on EBay.

Well, I ended up ordering some of the bamboo tea from JK tea shop, quite by accident. I was trying to figure out how much the shipping was, so I put a sample of the tea in my cart, and then I found a cute little gaiwan for $5 so I put that in my cart. Still couldn’t figure out the shipping cost, so went on to paypal expecting a subtotal, and suddenly my order was placed. That has never happened to me before. Very odd.

So, did you ever find out what shipping was???

Yeah, $6.70. Tea was $5.39 for 15 grams, and gaiwan was $4.80. Frankly I hate that ratio of shipping to product.

Are you referring to JK Teashop in Oregon? I do a lot of shipping and Priority from Midwest to west coast has gone up, a one pound-ish packet to California cost me exactly that just this last week. The flat rate box is still lower, but a gaiwan won’t fit in one of those obviously.

I just looked on their website (www.jkteashop.com) and they say they are in Guangzhou China. Must be a different place.

I was really here looking for something else and came across this. Any thoughts on how bamboo sheng from Yunnan would differ from falap, essentially the same thing but from Assam?
