A very pleasant surprise! I was looking for a caffeine free chai tea, and the clerk recommended this one to me. I smelt it – I hated it. I felt it was too orange-y and not chai-y enough. However, I was in a rush, decided to buy 25g of it and if I hated it, I could give it to a friend.

How wrong I was! Although the smell to me is still overpoweringly orange, the cup itself is not. It tastes like a typical chai aside from the black tea component (replaced with the rooibos) and the finish on it is quite orange. There is also a strong cinnamon flavour with this tea that may be off-putting to some.

EDIT:
I don’t know what it was, but I made a cup of this and it was dreadful. Given my initial impressions, I’m saddened by this! But even the smell of it now makes me gag. Will be trading.

I was debating between trying this or trying orange blossom as a latte the other day. Orange blossom won. But I want to compare this to coco chai rooibos soon.

What a delicate little floral! I purchased 25g of this to see if it would be something I like. I adore it! It’s a very light tea, and the overpowering note to me was cinnamon. Finishes with a jasmine note. Thinking about purchasing a tin. It also has this nice apple scent coming from the cup. Warm and inviting in every way!

I’m not going to lie, it’s difficult for me to drink straight black teas without milk and a sweetener (usually sugar or agave). So I’ll make my review sort of a dual between what I tasted without my own additives and with. To note – I am partial to straight teas. I received this tea as a sampler. I brewed this tea in two different sittings – one at boiling and one at just under boiling.

Without milk and sugar – Very floral tea with earthy tones. My cup was brown with a very prominent red tinge. The tea itself was quite flat, I found little complexity aside from a floral finish.

With milk and sugar – This tea reminded me of something I had tried when I was a kid, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Overall, I still felt it was flat, like it needed something to brighten up the cup.

This darjeeling is solid with or without milk and sugar. It may not be the best, but it’s far from the worst. Worth a try!

For me this was a pleasant surprise. I’m usually not a fan of “untraditionally” flavoured teas, and often my highest rated teas are straight teas. I received a sample of pumpkin chai in my last DT order, and decided to give it a try with my roommate. We both loved it! Looking at the ingredient list, I was concerned that it would be icky with the candies, but it really wasn’t. If I purchase this tea again, I would probably brew it a bit stronger, perhaps around the 6 minute mark.

Important to note though that I like chai teas. I like spicy teas. This was a really good twist on a traditional chai tea.

Try chocolate chili chai while it is here (it is a winter tea, so by march it will be online only). It tastes like a good strong chai with hot chocolate. I ADORE it because I love strong chai blends.

I prefer this jasmine scented green over others that I’ve tried. The Jasmine doesn’t overpower the cup (unless your water is too hot – then you’ll get a mouth full of flowers). For my palette it is the perfect balance of jasmine and green tea.

This is a fantastic tea for every day, and it’s a tea you miss once it’s gone (trust me!). I purchased the DavidsTea green sampler (the three teas), and this one was my favourite. Very mild tea that is both sweet and toasty. A word of caution – like other Japanese teas, it is not “hardy” enough to withstand boiling water. I brew this at a true lukewarm so the aromas and the flavours can come out and the tea is not bitter. Ended up buying a tin since this “popcorn” tea is so good as an every day tea.

This is my go-to herbal tea for when I don’t want to touch caffeine (like late at night). It helps me relax and wind down after a long day.

The valerian root adds a tartness to the tea that is appreciated under the layers of mint, rose, and camomile. There is also a strong lemon flavour present. This is a tea you don’t want to keep steeping forever, unlike other herbals. The valerian can get very tart, if not a bit bitter which can ruin the cup. Something to remain cognizant about, but not to worry.

I actually think it is the hibiscus as well that gets tart. I think this has hibiscus in it? I am a big hibiscus fan (lots of steepsterites are not) but it was only recently that I realized this had it too.

Dischord

Hibiscus gets tart only when it’s steeped too long (or there is too much in it). This idea that herbals can withstand steeping all day is wrong. Dead wrong.

This is one of my favourite North African/Moroccan mint blends! The cardamom! Cinnamon! This is the drink of hospitality for a reason! It’s always a hit when I serve it in a teapot to my friends. I love how the different flavours meld together to create a beautiful tea. Notes of licorice are present as well. Tea can be fickle – I recommend a little higher than a normal green tea temperature, but certainly not anywhere close to boiling. It can turn this tea very bitter. It’s a lovely addition to my permanent tea collection.

Keep in mind that I a) love strong teas and b) love chai blends and herbs that other people may not necessarily find palatable in tea. Especially licorice, pepper, cloves etc.

I am also having a love affair with cardamom atm. I’m going to try a bunch of Davids chais soon as soon as I get through some of my current sipdowns…I really liked jade oolong chai and coco chai rooibos when I had them recently.

This tea is just okay. I prefer DavidsTea Organic Silk Dragon Jasmine to this. I feel that this tea is just too much Jasmine and not enough anything else. Also a very fickle tea, goes bitter quickly so it is important to watch for temp and steeping time.

Overall, I’m very happy with this tea. I prefer greens that are strong and bold in flavour, and this one fits the bill. Tart, without being bitter.

How the story goes is that one day, a feeble, weakened graduate student decided to stop ingesting so much caffeine and additives (sugar, cream, milk) and instead headed for the land of tea.

I should probably mention that I’ve been drinking tea… pretty much since I can remember. The beauty of growing up in a still-semi-Euro family! I was introduced to green teas and pu’erhs by herbalists and acupuncturists in my teens.
