drank Thé sur le Nil by Mariage Frères
2201 tasting notes

I’m in Pittsburgh this weekend and I happen to have found a cute French restaurant called Crêpes Parisienne that is right near the museum where I’m working today. Not only do they have tasty crêpes, they also sell MF tea. I chose this one to go with my lunch mostly because they didn’t have any black teas that I really wanted to try in stock.

This was really lovely! Fresh and green and lightly citrusy. Smooth and overall very nice. It was on the whole lightly flavored (at least, with the somewhat unknown parameters at which I steeped it), but that is just fine with me. Perfect for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, and a perfect accompaniment to my delicious crêpe!

Do they only sell them to have with your food, or can you buy the entire tins? Either way, thanks for bringing it up! I am occasionally in Pittsburgh, so it is a good thing to know… Are there any other cool tea places you would recommend? I will be in Pittsburgh at the end of the month, in the vicinity of Cultural District mostly.

They do have a small selection of tins (and boxes of tea bags) for sale, but be warned that they are cash only! I don’t know much else about Pittsburgh as this is my first real visit, just happened across this place!

This is one of my all time favorites, my perfect spring-summer afternoon tea…

I love Nil Rouge as well.

Dinosara, somehow I thought you’re a very frequent visitor there! :D Thanks for sharing what you know, however. I might check out this place, maybe not in a couple of weeks, but the next time I’m there.

Bio

I am tea obsessed, with the stash to match. I tend to really enjoy green oolongs, Chinese blacks, and flavored teas with high quality bases, especially florals, bergamot-based teas, and chocolate teas.

In my free time I am a birder, baker, and music/movie/tv addict.

Here are my rating categories, FYI:
100-90: Mind-blowingly good, just right for my palate, and teas that just take me to a happy place.
89-86: I really really like these teas and will keep most of them in the permanent collection, but they’re not quite as spectacular as the top category
85-80: Pretty tasty teas that I enjoy well enough, but definitely won’t rebuy when I run out.
79-70: Teas that I would probably drink again, but only if there were no preferrable options.
69-50: Teas that I don’t really enjoy all that much and wouldn’t drink another cup of.
49 and below: Mega yuck. This tea is just disgusting to me.
Unrated: Usually I feel unqualified to rate these teas because they are types of teas that I tend to not like in general. Sometimes user error or tea brewed under poor conditions.
