Very light flowery tea , I don’t taste peach but it definitely has lots of honey or more of a pollen taste to it. There is a bit of an aloe note. I am getting a bit of a fresh cream aftertaste too which is quite lovely. It’s definitely interesting but I need more time to “get” the whites, but I am liking what I’m tasting so far.

It’s very milky actually, it is slightly more bitter than your usual milk oolong, but possibly just as creamy.

Dry leaves smell very grassy with a very slight flowery accent. When steeped the flower smell becomes very prominent both in aroma and in taste. Liquor is of lightest golden color. Tea is very light and mellow, no bitterness comes out even after a generous amount of leaves with a longer steeping time. Has a long lasting flowery aftertaste. Reminds me of tulips.

drank Milk Oolong by Tea Dynasty

Dry leaves smell more like milk candy than straight cream (compared to Tea Emporiums milk oolong I tried).

When leaves are steeped I find the milky smell gets lost, it smells more like straight oolong, the liquor still keeps the creamy smell.

Taste is rich, very creamy and bold with definitive oolong profile. It even has plenty of bitterness you’d get from high mountain oolong or tie guan yin steeped for longer time. In fact the tea tastes much like high mountain oolong. Interesting thing I find about this tea is the fact that it literally has milk aftertaste, sort of lactose feeling even.

Manager of Tea Dynasty assured me that it’s not flavor infused. I am no expert by any means but it seems true, since even in comparison with Tea Emporium tea tastes creamy, not so much milky and it has a strong oolong flavor. Also the milky notes are closer to green tea nuttiness than milk in flavor. Sort of milder version of dragon well nuttiness, that isn’t as nutty therefore comes off as creaminess instead.

I am much happier with this tea in comparison to Tea Emporium as I was lacking flavor in the latter a whole lot, it was too mild. This tea is creamy yet still bold.

drank Formosa Oolong by Tea Licious

First off, thank you Tea Licious for the sample!

Dry leaves smell slightly like good black tea with notes of dried plum or raisins. Very pleasant fruity aroma. Steeped, it unfurls to fully intact leaves, you can distinctly see both green and brown leaves. The smell is distinct of fermented oolong with a bit of darjeeling citrusiness going on.

Liquor surprisingly doesn’t have much smell, I can only distinguish brown sugar notes. It smells like a light steep of some good black tea.

The taste is very light, citrusy, slightly malty. Again it reminds me more of black tea, some very light cross of yunnan and darjeeling. I am enjoying it quite a lot in fact because it seems to be extremely balanced in terms of taste (while it’s easy to oversteep the black tea). I love the refreshing taste and citrus candy aftertaste (like Halls Grapefruit, even the same astringency) it leaves in my mouth. Very cool and unusual for me tea.

This is first steep so I will see if latter steeps bring something new to the table and then add more notes if that’s the case.

drank Young Hyson by Tea Licious

Just wanted to note that steeped leaves look quite chopped and second steeping was already a little too weak, usually I can easily steep tea three times getting decent results on the last steep. I am not sure if it’s just characteristic of this particular sort of tea, but I wanted to mention it.

Liquor is a beautiful golden color. It tastes creamy, grassy, a little smoky, leaves a slightly dry feeling in the mouth. Even though it’s a green tea, it has much of oolong notes as well. It’s very smooth, there is almost no bitterness to it.

drank Temple of Heaven by Tea Licious

First off, thank you Tea Licious for the sample!

Quick Google search shows that Temple of Heaven is a common gunpowder tea. Dry leaves smell is very pleasant, sort of dark honey.

Steeped leaves unfurl quite a lot into deep green full leaves. The smell of steeped leaves is candy like with a hint of smoke and citrus.

Liquor is light brown orangey color, smells smokey and malty. Taste is quite bitter but pleasant bitterness. First seconds after a sip taste is very grassy which quickly becomes bolder. In a way it tastes much like Shui Xian or Da Hong Pao but with more bitterness and much bolder. Love the fact that flavor changes so much.

Dry leaves smell starchy, a bit grassy and a touch flowery. Rinsing the leaves brings out alcohol smell, I want to say cherry liqueur, it’s very subtle.

Even after a rather short steeping time, the liquor is very dark.

Just wanted to note that this tea grew a lot on me and in fact makes me want to try more sheng pu-erhs. It took me some time to come to terms with the world of difference between sheng and shou pue-erhs.

I love the bitterness it brings, it’s definitely very unique to me in terms of taste, it’s different from shou bitterness as well as oolong or blacks bitterness.

I steeped the tuo cha in the thermos today and was pleasantly surprised to find lots of citrus flavor on the second steep. It compares well with Darjeeling grapefruit flavor but beats it due to aforementioned particular bitterness. Maybe it was due to higher overall steeping temperature due to metal sides, but I never got that flavor from gaiwan or glass pot from this tea.

Bio

I was always a huge fan of teas but my tastes changed constantly. Lately I am on the path of discovering Chinese teas, but not limiting myself to that. I am, however, favoring straight teas at this point.

I love pu-erh, oolongs are always a treat, learning about greens is delicious, absolutely neutral towards rooibos or herbals and black is always a yes. Incidentally any combination of the above is ok in a blended tea, which I like to have time to time.

« The first cup kisses away my thirst,
and my loneliness is quelled by the second.
The third gives insight worthy of ancient scrolls,
and the fourth exiles my troubles.
My body becomes lighter with the fifth,
and the sixth sends word from immortals.
But the seventh—oh the seventh cup—
if I drink you, a wind will hurry my wings
toward the sacred island. »
