I love Goji berries. I love green tea, why not? However….

Yuck! Maybe it’s because I usually boil my Goji Berries to begin with, but this definitely is the abomination of what the sourness of a grapefruit fused with a too-light green tea would taste like. Goji berries should be light and sweet, not reminiscent of artifically-flavored cranberries. I couldn’t even taste the green tea because of this distracting note.

Brewed for a good 10+ minutes, not much color, flat taste. Disappointment.

The bag smells sweeter than it actually tastes. Because of the hibiscus there’s good color (I’ve been noticing lately how many bagged teas use this strategy), and a discernible hibiscus scent. I’d say overall, however, that it doesn’t especially taste like pomegranate, yet the taste of green isn’t so strong as to be bitter either. I didn’t need to use sweetener, but I could see myself drinking this with honey again, ill or not, and it would probably taste good iced. This tisane came in 2nd of the three pomegranate/green combinations I tried while fighting a cold.

drank Mayan Cocoa Spice by Yogi Tea

Strange taste…almost artificial. The cocoa tastes almost like leather…milk&honey don’t do much good either. And what are those oily spots that swim on top of my brew?Actually I start to feel kind of nauseous.
Oh God…and still a whole bag to go.

If it’s that bad, you are allowed to throw it away!! Or maybe find someone who likes it?

Cofftea

The “oily spots” are actually a very good thing! Those are the essential oils leaving the tea leaves. When you see those you know you’re getting the all the stuff that’s good for the rest of your body, not just your tongue.

Laura B

If you check the ingredients, cinnamon oil, cardamom oil, and ginger oil are all in the list… and “Cofftea” is right for actual TEA products… it’s the sign for ceylon tea in particular that it was processed correctly and stored well; for this, it’s the cinnamon/cardamom/ginger OILs though… and even chocolate has fat in it—good chocolate will leave an oily residue, too, when melted in water.

drank Egyptian Licorice Mint by Yogi Tea

The mint flavour seems stronger to me when the tea is steeped longer. It lends a bit of a…not quite bitter tang to it. And the menthol leave a bit of a tingly, cooling sensation in the back of my mouth.

drank Egyptian Licorice Mint by Yogi Tea
1908 tasting notes

This is very much a two-note sort of tea. First you get the cooling, herbal, almost bitter taste of the mint. Then, as that fades out, the sweet, almost sugary licorice flavour fades in to take its place. There’s maybe a hint of spices on the aftertaste, but they’re not the focus of this tea.

I got this for the boyfriend-creature because he likes Yogi’s Egyptian Licorice and since we’d run out of that one I figured I’d introduce him to something similar, but a bit different. Thankfully he enjoys it and I think it’s pretty decent too, although I wished that the mint and licorice would mesh better on the tongue.

drank Aztec Sweet Chili by Yogi Tea

Yogi tea LOVES LOVES LOVES their ginger. All I smell in the unsteeped tea bag is ginger. After brewed (5 minutes, hot water, no sugar) all I still smell is ginger. The taste is, you guessed it, predominantly ginger, but there is also a spicy burn, brought on mostly by cayenne and cardamom. With each sip, you smell the ginger, then taste ginger with sweetness, finally before it is gone, you are left with burning brought on by cayenne pepper.

I like it, it’s definitely different, spicy and strange, but I like it. Would definitely be better if it was blended with either a black tea, or a creamy flavored (like vanilla or coconut) tea.

drank Healthy Fasting by Yogi Tea

So, the time has come to do a new fast. With this comes several restrictions that exclude everything but fresh squeezed juices, water and caffeine free teas. I would have a world of options if I were to stick with a rooibos or honeybush variety, but I decided since this is my first fast in two years I better start it off with something full of beneficial herbs. Enter Yogi’s Healthy Fasting herbal tea supplement. In the tea bag this tea has one heavy licorice smell. One smell I have never really been able to enjoy. This was one of those moments were I should have left curiosity at the door. For the ten minutes I let this tea steep I starred at it in a semi fearful way. The color of the tea started off innocent enough, but slowly bleed into what it would look like if you made a green tea then left it for three months to sit in the sun. The time came to finally drink it. The tea has a scent of ten-plus ingredients. It was all over the place, but as a whole just did not come out smelling pleasant. The taste of the tea itself was the least troublesome part of the entire experience. Though that is not saying much considering the taste is what I would imagine a parsnip and ginger juice would taste like. YUM!……………..blah. This makes sense because around half of its ingredients are of the root family. Overall this tea does not make me happy nor is it a great way to start the mornings, but this is one of those situations were you just bite your lip, hold your nose, bear with it and say “this is beneficial to my health, this is beneficial to my health, this is beneficial to my health…”.

drank Cold Season by Yogi Tea

Sample provided by a co-worker. Tastes like somebody just indiscriminately dumped in the contents of a spice cabinet with a heavy licorice sticky-tongue feeling that overrides all of it. Will sip dutifully (for the health benefit) but rather reluctantly.

gmathis

OK, I couldn’t even sip dutifully. Pwagggh. I’ll just take an echinacea when I get home.

I bought this because it was cheap and I had optimism for the combination, but it just wasn’t something I enjoyed. With creamer and honey it’s a lot more interesting, but for now I’ll use it to marinate chicken or fish…

drank Breathe Deep by Yogi Tea

This tea does it’s job fairly well, my lungs feel clearer and breathing feels easier after drinking a cup. I like to mix it with other teas so that it’s less intense, but I enjoy the floral-sweet aftertaste. As others have said, just inhaling the steam feels therapeutic.

drank Throat Comfort by Yogi Tea
243 tasting notes

So when the weather changes here, and it finally gets hot, the air conditioning units go on pumping cool air along with dust, pollen, dirt, etc etc into the air. Needless to say, I have had a cough/sore throat for over a week. They are not a cold – I have no other signs, they are from the AC and then outside into the hot NJ air.

Not complaining, just trying to remedy it with some of this tea. This tea, though licorice flavored, is good, especially for the throat, it definitely does help to coat and soothe. I think that the warm slightly sweet liquid also has some coating and soothing aspects, but I am glad I had this this morning. Now onto my caffeine…

Could not have said it better myself. And kudos on your rating system; may have to use (read: steal) that in my bio, with a few tweaks of course.

drank Throat Comfort by Yogi Tea

I am not feeling so well today, so I decided to turn to tea to try and soothe the problem. I found this one in the organic section of my grocery store and decided that it could not possibly hurt. However, before I get too in-depth, this is not actually a tea, there is no tea in the ingredients, it is an “herbal supplement”, so please forgive when I say “tea” but I did treat it as such. The smell of the tea bag is almost overwhelmingly licorice. The brewed tea has a licorice scent, but it is subdued by light fragrant spices. The tea itself starts with a mild licorice flavor (I do not like licorice) that is blended well with spices, ginger, cardamom, clove, pepper and cinnamon followed by a slight aftertaste of orange. This tea is incredibly sweet, I brewed hot with no sugar (luckily).

While drinking, my throat actually did feel soothed. This probably had everything to do with warm liquid with the large amount of organic extracts and sweet calming flavors. My only complaint is that when it cools, some of the tea seems to settle, when drinking the settlement, it actually agitated my throat more and caused me to start coughing, which did not help the sore throat.

I will continue to use the tea to see if I feel any better and furthermore when I am better to give a better rating and description of the flavors.

How is it working several hours later? I’m coughing like crazy and looking for a good throat-soother :)

I had another cup this morning, still coughing, but throat is feeling better, definitely does not hurt as much.

A spicy, peppery brew, but slightly sweet. It makes me think of root beer blended with cinnamon, which ain’t much of a surprise since one of the ingredients is sarsaparilla root. It’s not bad. In fact, I suspect my boyfriend would enjoy it quite a bit as he’s a huge root beer fan. There’s also a strong licorice note.

It’s a bagged tea. A bagged tisane, I should say, since there aren’t any tea leaves here.

I’ve got a persistent cough at the moment, so if this could just pull out whatever toxins are causing the cough, that would be just swell!

Suzi

As a follow-up, I feel that I should mention that
A/ Coughing did let up for several hours after drinking this tea, although this certainly could be merely the effect of warm liquid on a sore throat
B/ I did not notice any increased cleaning out of the internal system, but the package advised something like 5-6 cups of this stuff a day, and I had only 2.

takgoti

My brother and I used to like to get sarsaparilla root beer in the “real” bottles so we could stumble around and pretend that we were drunk. We did it in a restaurant one time, and I think that we thoroughly offended a couple of people by making them think our parents had let their 7-9 year old children get staggering drunk. Helped that my brother’s always been able to burp on cue.

I’m not sure how I feel about root beer flavored tea, though. I think I’d miss the carbonation. Hope you’re back to 100% soon!

Hyrulehippie

@Suzi- For whatever reason, you’re starting to feel better, so that’s definitely good!

@takgoti- That’s an amusing story. I don’t think I even knew what alcohol was when I was that age.

Very nice. A tea that actually tastes exactly the way the name describes it: it has a hot chili after-taste as well as natural sweetness. I don’t think it has enough body to be really satisfying on its own, but it works great when it’s blended with other teas for different flavor combinations or giving your tea a spicy kick.

woo-hoo, just got back from Grocery Outlet where they’d gotten four, new, high-end bagged teas for $1.99 each! The first one I’m trying is Woman’s Dong Quai Tonic by Yogi Tea, which is pretty nice! It smells wonderful, and I taste the anise (which I love to add to loose tea mixtures), as well as the cinnamon bark, and a little ginger or pepper because it’s a little spicy. I added it to the system as a new tea with the name listed on its current packaging, though it’s also listed on Steepster with what looks like older packaging as menstrual tea, however, my victorian inclinations prevent comment on that. Anyway, shout out to Grocery Outlet!

Had high hopes for this one but alas it tastes nothing like hazelnut or vanilla. It does taste like a spice/root tisane with flavors noted in the ingredients.

This stuff is REALLY good for digestion. I have issues with GERD so sometimes nothing will help except this. I usually drink it after a meal if I’m too full or keep having indigestion. It helps my food digest better and gives me relief from feeling so full and bloated.
