My TeaCupany order came, this was our first foray into testing them. This is tea has a surprisingly robust flavour for its components. Also, it came in a large bag so the tea leaves are nice and unbroken!! Much appreciated! The bf doesn’t taste the cucumber, but I think I do. It is a nice, sweet, vegetal taste with. Creamy, with hints of cucumber notes. We really liked it!

I am going to have to give my other teas from the TeaCupany a steep, but this was a great start to the evening!

drank Sweet Potato Pie by The TeaCupany

KellyxLee added a few teas into her recent TeaCupany order for me and this was one of them. This is definitely the one I enjoy the most, though it is really a different tea.

The spices aren’t overwhelming, or too chai-like, which is delightful. The sweet potato flavour is really there too. The flavours just seem to compliment each other to create this awesome tea. I don’t think I could drink this all the time, but I certainly wouldn’t turn down a cup.

Thanks KellyxLee for sending some of this along!

This is a great mint black tea. It’s fresh. Yet, it also has this almost buttery quality. I’m impressed with this one. Kelly sent me a bunch of samples from TeaCupany so we shall see if I’m impressed enough to place my own order.

Also, I’ve been writing a paper all day, and I just remembered I have a physics reflection due at midnight, but of course I would leave my physics textbook at school. Errg. I contemplated driving down to school, but there’s a line. I have spent many a Saturday, Sunday, and holiday at school, but I just can’t bring myself to drive down there at this hour.

drank Sweet Cherry by The TeaCupany

KellyxLee sent this my way :)

It’s always nice to have some herbal options, something I’ve been seriously lacking in lately. This is a decent herbal. It’s more tart than sweet, though that doesn’t bother me at all. I have a feeling this would be a little better chilled, I’m finding it slightly lacking in flavour. The directions gave a steeping time of 5-10 minutes, and I steeped for 7. Perhaps a longer steeping time would fix that. Hmm.

drank Spicy Chai by The TeaCupany
284 tasting notes

Thank you to Dexter3657 for a sample of this. I have enough for a generous two cups. I need to do a better job of polishing off the ziploc bags. I don’t like them. It’s a dilemma. It’s always nice to receive swaps but then these bags are everywhere, unruly and taking over places… God, that sounds ungrateful. I love the tea, I just need to drink it when I get it instead of dragging it around. A you see it’s not you, it’s me :)

I was ok with these flavours. I did find it a little one dimensional, didn’t get a whole lot or orange, I did get clove but it wasn’t an unpleasant amount. I confess I did not try to find depth of flavour. I took it for a trip to chapters so in a travel mug it went with a generous amount of sugar (after all, chai is sweet, yes?) and some whipping cream. The fake stuff that’s all oil and terrible for you. Whatever.

The chai? Good. Would I buy this? Probably. In my search this comes closer to contenders than to the bottom of the list, in case you’re wondering.

1.5 tsp for 10 oz boiling. In a travel mug. By the time the chapters trip was over, it was gone. And that’s how you know. When you look in your cup and the tea is gone, it means it was good, right? :)

drank Tangy Cranberry by The TeaCupany
1040 tasting notes

So I was drinking Sweet Red Mango from The TeaCupany the other night and wow was it tart. I was a little afraid of this one, if that was called sweet and was that tart, how tart is this going to be?
Well not to worry, I think this is a case of a company not understanding the definition of words. This one is too sweet. It comes across as more raspberry or strawberry than cranberry. I think cranberry should be a little bit tart, and this isn’t. All in all it’s a nice fruity black tea, but tangy it’s not.
I still am really happy with my TeaCupany teas, and Mitch is really nice with good customer service.

VariaTEA

I really do think The TeaCupany might just be trying to mess with their customers. After trying the Sweet Cherry and reading your reviews I honestly believe that is the case.

drank Chocolate Chai by The TeaCupany

Drinking some of this tonight. One would have thought that I’d had enough chai this weekend – I still have one to log and one I haven’t tried yet. Flavored chais are not part of that experiment, but wanted to compare this one to their spicy chai. I like this better.
The chocolate in this tea mutes the spices and it seems more balanced to me because of it. This still isn’t perfect for me, but is a very nice enjoyable cup of chai. (On the second steep, I added a splash of pumpkin syrup – THAT REALLY worked…)

caile

Pumpkin syrup sounds really good in chai!

Dexter

I have quite a few chais and quite a few pumpkin teas that are just so-so. I went and bought a bottle of pumpkin syrup – it really perks up those teas. :))

caile

Good idea! :-)

Wow is this tart. The word sweet in the name is not telling the truth. I actually don’t mind tart, and I’m not a hibiscus hater, but this one might be on the verge of pushing my tartness limit. If you can get past the tart, this has really nice juicy mango flavors. It steeps up bright red and is beautiful to look at.
I don’t hate it, but sweetener is definitely needed for my tastes.

VariaTEA

I just tried Sweet Cherry and given this review I think The TeaCupany may be confused as to the meaning of the word “sweet”

Sil

LMAO

Dexter

LOL I saw your review VariaTEAINHO this one is MORE tart than the sweet cherry.

the TeaCupany

Thank you for the feedback guys! I will modify this name, for some reason Sweet Red Mango was the chosen title given based on reviews in the house and office. I will modify the description as well as title for the site, as well as re review myself with a couple different steepings.

Sil

Sounds great teacupany!

Dexter

This is what I love about Steepster and the tea community in general. Companies/owners actually read/care/listen to what we have to say.
Mitch at The TeaCupany provides awesome customer service. Thanks for listening. LOL if we could just get a bit of the tart from this tea into the cranberry black I was drinking last night, all would be right in my world….. or maybe I should blend them…hmmmm

the TeaCupany

Just did my second pot and you are all right! Maybe the sample package had less hibiscus in them or something weird going on, so I will modify the name and description. Will also do the sweet cherry one as well, as I wouldn’t be happy if I was in the mood for sweet tea and got a tart one :) And also thank you again to everyone, as without feedback there would not be any progress or improvement! We are very new here and still working out all the kinks, so thank again.

GCTTB Rd 3:

When I first joined steepster, this was one the teas I received in my very first swap courtesy of the amazing Dexter. Back when all I knew how to do was boil the kettle, dump boiling water on all the teas and wait like 20 minutes for tea to steep. Iced teas and cold brews were mere myths on my radar so when I tried this and the hibiscus took over, all I could do was power through my sample with my puckered face. Luckily I have learned one or two things from that amazing introduction to the tea world.

As I brewed this up, I immediately grabbed some ice cubes and decided to see how the cold temperature might affect the hibby. The result? An only slightly tart tea. Alas, without the tartness, there really isn’t much else going on in this cup. It is pleasant enough that I don’t mind drinking it but I think this tea and I can officially part ways for good. Nonetheless, thank you mewakeling for the chance to experiment with an old acquaintance.

Dexter3657 sent me a little bit of this tea to sample and to be honest I am not really a fan. It is called “Sweet Cherry” but it is actually rather tart. This is definitely not the sweet tea I was hoping for so I think this sample will be the only bit I have of this tea. I won’t be ordering this in the future but at least now I know it is not for me.

Tea six in my chai quest. This one is interesting. I like the spices, I don’t like the orange, it gives it an astringency/bitterness that is off putting. This is ok, but not great. Quest continues.

Sipdown!! (171)

Dexter3657 sent a sample of this my way to try. It is mostly like drinking a hot glass of water with a subtle hint of cucumber. Realistically this makes sense given that cucumber is a mild flavor. All in all, it is not a bad cup, just not very exciting so I probably won’t be ordering this any time soon. I am definitely glad I got to try it though so thank you Dexter3657 for your generosity.

This is yet another sample I received from Dexter3657. I am really trying to power through them and taste them all before I have even more teas to explore.

Anyways, this tea tastes exactly like what you’d think it tastes like. This is white tea with subtle notes of cucumber. Personally, I like bolder flavors but this is definitely a very nice cup of tea when your in the mood for nothing over-the-top or fancy. Thanks Dexter3657!

I might have to try this one tonight……..

The two teas I have my eye on from TeaCupany are this one and Sweet Potato Pie (which Dexter reviewed). Thanks for reviewing this one: we seem to have pretty similar taste, so I think I’d feel a lot more comfortable placing a TeaCupany order for those two after reading your and Dexter’s reviews.

VariaTEA

Glad I could help! Also, Dexter sent me Sweet Cherry from the Teacupany to try so I can let you know how that tastes once I try it myself if you like.

VariaTEA

Plus sweet potato pie sounds interesting. I would definitely be interested to hear your thoughts on that once you try it.

I’m a huge fan of cherry tisane. This is a decent example of a cherry tea. I don’t think that it’s “cough syrup” as some of them are. On the downside, this is called sweet cherry, and this is pretty tart. I’m not a hibiscus hater, I usually like a little tart, but this might jut be bordering on a touch too much for me. I also think there is a little too much apple. I know most cherry teas have apple in them, but I can actually taste the apple, that would be a little too much.
This seems more negative than it really is. This is good, it’s fine, it’s just not my favorite cherry.

drank Candied Apple by The TeaCupany
1040 tasting notes

Feeling a little guilty that I haven’t been trying/writing about The TeaCupany lately. I bought several of their tea when they first appeared here on Steepster and have really enjoyed the ones I’ve tried. Fun new Canadian company.
Caramel Apple Black Tea, that’s pretty much what this is. When it’s hot, I got lots of caramel, touch of cinnamon, not much apple. As it cools the apple really comes forward and the caramel moves more into the background. LOL depending on what flavor you like better, depends on how much you should let this cool. I prefer the hot caramel to the cool apple, but that’s just me.
This is fun little tea that I really don’t have much negative to say – the only little thing would be that I didn’t really taste the black base, but then again it wasn’t interfering with the flavors eithers.
This is another TeaCupany Tea that didn’t disappoint. Thumbs up!!

not a fan of this one, which is a little sad because i had high hopes for this one. Thanks for sending it my way though dexter! All i could taste in this was the mate, which i don’t love, but i keep trying to enjoy. I will hold off rating this one in case it’s just a matter of not hitting the sweet spot this time around. thanks dexter!

Dexter

LOL it’s funny how the taste we don’t like is usually ALL we can taste. I personally LOVED this and thought the mate was almost too hidden.

woot! another tea from dexter and one of the ones i was most wary about, though less so once i read her review. I am one of those sweet potato haters. I think it’s because they’re “sweet” lol However this tea is really nice! It reminds me of the sort of pumpkin spice theme that happens around this time, but it’s not pumpkin, it’s more sweet potato. The base is still present, and the flavours blend together really well. I couldn’t drink this all the time, but this is quite good. Makes me wonder how it would fare as a latte! Thanks for sharing dexter!

drank Pumkin Pie by The TeaCupany
1040 tasting notes

The quest for the perfect pumpkin tea continues. No this isn’t it either. I’ve really liked the other teas I’ve tried from The TeaCupany. This one is just strange. It might grow on me, but strange. I’m not getting pumpkin. This is more – get ready I said it was weird – caramel, coffee spice. Sorry that’s what it tastes like to me.
Sorry guys, this doesn’t work as pumpkin for me. Not rating right now, will give it one more chance, but for now, the pumpkin quest continues.

TeaLady441

Good to know. So many pumpkin teas, so little time…

Dexter

Della Terra is still my fav….

keychange

Oooh! got a sample of dellaterra’s pumpkin, even though I ordered apple instead—I guess they didn’t have it in, and so substituted it for this one. I plan on getting around to trying it this week.

This is the perfect tea for a chilly fall or cold winter day. It’s nutty and toasty and naturally sweet. It’s vanilla scent on the dry leaves is much stronger than the actual vanilla flavor that you get out of it. But overall it’s a very enjoyable tea that I will be drinking a lot of this winter.

I’ll admit it, I’ve become pessimistic about teas that claim these types of flavors. In my experience they usually disappoint. My other issue is I’m not really quite sure what sweet potato pie should be. I’m envisioning that sweet potato casserole that’s oozing with brown sugar, smothered with marshmallows on the Thanksgiving table. That’s not what this is.
I’m very pleased to report that I was wrong in both of these assumptions. This tastes like sweet potatoes. I almost can’t believe it, but that’s the prodominent flavor, then there are subtle chai (or pumpkin pie) spices in the back ground. The spices are there, but they are not overwhelming the potato flavor. This is really well balanced for me, even the spices are nicely balanced. The only negative I have is that it’s not sweet enough. This could really use some sweetness. Next time I drink this I’m going to thow in some brown sugar, I think that’s what it’s missing.
I’m 2 for 2 so for teas from The TeaCupany. Can’t wait to try more of them.

Roswell Strange

Glad to here this one didn’t disappoint! After seeing your review of Choconut Mate yesterday and hearing how great their service was, I went and checked out their website – this one and Cucumber White were the two I was most interested in! Might need to consider an order now!

Dexter

I did order cucumber white too – how could you not. I have 13 total to try. Working my way though them.

the TeaCupany

Don’t work yourself too hard ;) Just wait until you get through all the ones you have ordered and then try out that extra sample one. Looking forward to reading more reviews as we are always looking for any type of feedback!

I placed my TeaCupany order Sunday night. I got it today. I never get orders that quickly. From my understanding this is a fairly new tea company out of BC Canada. They have tons of flavored tea on their website, sample sizes available in BOTH 10g and 25g sizes. Really affordable, easy to try a new company when you can get small sizes of lots of different teas. I ordered 12 and they threw in a free sample. The other good news is that all my packages are resealable – even the 10g ones. :)) What can I say, I think they are doing the right things to get tea buyer like me to give them a chance. Thumbs up customer service and selection on web site.

Now the tea. I’m a HUGE Yerba Mate fan (I know you wouldn’t know it from my tasting notes) so maybe I’m a closet Yerba Mate fan. I was a little apprehensive about this one, the description said lightly roasted. Hmmmmm I’m more of a dark roasted kind of girl, but the rest of the ingredients sound right up my alley.
This is really good!! If you are a fan of this style of tea, you should check it out. It’s chocolate, hazelnut, sweet, nutty, with just a little of the coffee ish flavors that come out of the mate. It’s not too heavy on any one element. They all work really well together. I’m pretty fussy about hazelnut, I love it if it’s done right, hate it if it’s not. Doesn’t taste artificial at all. This is a really nice example of this type of tea. Thumbs up.

The only thing I’m a little confused about…. the steeping instructions on my package says 150 F for 3-6 minutes. 150? That’s so low I don’t even know what that is in C. I googled it…65 for those who care. 65? Really? I don’t steep anything at 65. I normally do mate about 90. I’ll admit it, I didn’t follow instructions but I did lower my temp to about 85 in the spirit of compromise. I probably steeped it a little longer than recommended too probably a little more than 6 minutes. I liked the end result so it’s all good.

All in all, so far so good. I’m liking this new company. Will keep continue to write tasting notes as I try them….

JustJames

good to know about a local start up! thanks dexter! 150…. hmmm, indeed, rather odd.

Dexter

I looked at the rest of the packages, everything else seems to have pretty normal temperatures. Except Grapefruit Oolong says 212F. I never use boiling on oolong. Depends on they type of oolong. 80 for the REALLY green ones up to about 90 for the really dark ones. I generally look at the leaves, judge a color and pick a temp.

keychange

Oh, glad to hear about this new company, and bonus tha tit’s in Canada! I’ll be checking them out as more reviews come in from you.

Sil

you find me a good yerba mate….so far i am not a fan.

Lala

Do they have a website, I googled it but only seemed to get a bunch of garbage sites?

Dexter

Yes as Sil stated, that’s where I ordered from
http://theteacupany.com/

Dexter

I had some of their sweet potato pie last night – will write proper tasting note, but I was surprised at how “sweet potato” it was….I have no complaints so far.

the TeaCupany

Hey Dexter,
I was just trying to message you to ensure you got your package before the weekend. I am happy to hear you did.

Many apologies about the steeping temp mix up, as noted we are new and still working out the kinks in the system.

I have updated the yerba mate to reflect a recommended steeping temperature of between 160° and 180° and the oolong to reflects a 190°. Sorry about any confusion caused there.
