The jasmine and rose scents blend together very well; lightly fragrant. Subtle, starchy flavor to the tea.

Usually I don’t post tasting notes about teas which I find mediocre or unpleasant, but…
This
is
the
worst
pu-erh
I’ve
ever
had.

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec
Cofftea

You should, then we know what teas to avoid:P

Oh Cha!

Well don’t buy this one!
Pu-erhs like this are giving pu-erhs a terrible reputation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gross gross gross.

Cofftea

Your parameters are vastly different from my preference so I may just try it to compare;)

Oh Cha!

It tasted like I imagine it would if someone brewed my tea in a tire, and then put out their cigarette in it. :(

Cofftea

Ew… Even thought this isn’t entirely pu erh, I think I’d probably use my typical pu erh preparation method.

tease

Too bad there’s no dislike button on here! :P

Keemun

…looking at your 5min steeping time and your boiling water…is this the first time that your ’work’with a Pu-Erh? No offens here.Clearly there are good teas and clearly there a teas that were produced for the bin…
But in case that this was your first trial with Mr.Bolder Breakfast than you should give it another chance.
Stick with the boiling water at first but keep the first infusion under 90 seconds…pour the tea in a cup and let it cool down for a couple of minutes.
Some Pu-Erhs tend to come across quite rough when drunk very hot.But after a few minutes they start to taste milder.Even fruty perhaps…
If the tea seems still to bitter or rough to you then try it with a lower water temp.
85 degrees Celsius…90sec steeping
I am only suggesting here…

Oh Cha!

Maybe I should try a shorter infusion time, and see how it goes. I’m very particular when I make my tea though, so I did use the water temperature and infusion time as indicated on the canister.
I can’t remember if it was five minutes or not, I didn’t have it in front of me while on Steepster, but typically 5 minutes is appropriate for your standard shu pu-erh. Usually the shorter and staggered infusion times apply to saiqing varieties pu-erh or a sheng tuo cha, right?

I mean no offence to fans of this tea! …Maybe it tastes good with cream and sweetener?

Cofftea

Oh Cha!, Carolyn has suggested rinsing 1g of tea for every 1oz water for 15 sec in boiling water then 20 sec steeps and I’ve been quite impressed w/ the strength and the quality of the flavor. While I do often at least try the company’s suggestions, I’ve also learned some companies don’t know squat when it comes to steeping parameters. Pu Erh is like any other tea, everyone likes it different. But this is just another preparation option for you.

Oh Cha!

Neato! Thanks for the tip!! :)

Cofftea

Carolyn is really to thank- I’m just relaying it;)

There’s nothing I love more than a truly experimental blend. So when I caught wind of Climber’s High, I rushed to order it. Experimental is perhaps the best “category” for this tea which contains black, green AND white tea, PLUS pu’erh, PLUS yerba mate AND a host of various herbs, roots and spices.

This tea certainly packs an energetic punch, thanks to the caffeine from the green, black and pu’erh teas, and the from the mateine from the yerba mate, and the also the warming and stimulating effects of the ginseng root, cinnamon, black pepper, cardamom and chocolate.

The aroma of the dry tea conjures up a spicy chocolate forest – which is lost when brewed, as many blends (without artificial flavors) are apt to do.

The tea itself is a bit too cut & torn for my liking. Out of 18 ingredients I could only identify four of them. Even the brightly colored safflower petals were all but absent.

There is a strong and bakey quality to this tea. However, the sheer amount of ingredients seems to flatten out the taste. It lacks the excitement of a journey that having such a long list of ingredients might imply. The dry finish was reminiscent of many pu’erhs I have tried. Of all the teas, herbs and spices in this blend, the most pronounced is yerba mate, but I wouldn’t say that it dominated the blend.

To bend an old axiom: Too many leaves spoil the blend.

I gotta pass this along to my best friend. She loves going on hikes:)

Prior to infusion – smells like sweet and sour Thai Food
During Infusion – smells like Indian Spiced Lemon Grass
After infusion is complete – smells like Lemon-Ginger-Spice Type Rice or something.

The color is a cloudy brown.

Thankfully there isn’t much of a Hibiscus flavor…but enough to know it’s still there. I can also taste the Lemon, Ginger, and Coriander more than the rest of the ingredients.

This isn’t bad…This isn’t terrific, either. I will finish my cup but – to me- it’s not memorable – but then again I wouldn’t usually go right to this type of blend if it where sitting on the shelf in front of me…if you know what I mean. I think there are many out there that would enjoy it, however.

Oolong teas are by far my favorite, and this one is no exception. Slightly more “green” than other oolongs I have tried, but still a pleaser.

I know I just commented, but I made my husband a pot of this this morning and he, who refuses to get too excited about tea, especially nuances, absolutely loved it!

Excellant blend. No one element stands out. A really pleasant way to face getting out of a nice warm bed on a cold wet day. Very fresh base tea.

Burgundy is right! Nice color! Not much for scent, tho. It’s a flatter type taste. A little woodsy. VERY slight berry-type taste. This is an OK tea.

I’m really liking this tea better the more I drink of it.
Toast and mint really go together well in this blend.

Taken Plain.
Mint and toasty goodness. That’s pretty much all you can say about this one. It is somehow both refreshing and smoothly savory at the same time and none of the flavors fight with one another.
Which is pretty neat.
Definitely worth a shot.

Roasted mint??? YUM.

I know! it’s delicious… and strange!

drank Coconut Cabana by The Tea Spot

For a coconut oolong this tea really fits its description. It tastes filling and creamy and the tea looks ‘milky’ almost murky. The way this tea store recommends this tea , I just couldn’t resist trying some, but I would definitely not say its “extraordinary” but I’ll drink it cuz I dont want to waste it but I wouldn’t buy this again- just not my favorite coconut tea.

Which one is your favorite?

kat

Funny that u ask because I was shopping for one yesterday…I want to try 52 Teas coconut cream pie- sounds delicious! Adagios coconut black was pretty good too. Maybe the cocnut just doesn’t go too well with an oolong?

Carolyn

I don’t know. I like Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong tea and it’s an oolong. http://www.goldenmoontea.com/Coconut_Pouchong_-_Awarded_Bes_P26C15.cfm

I wasn’t able to tolerate Adagio’s flavoring, so the coconut didn’t do me much good. I agree that 52 Tea’s Coconut Cream Pie sounds nice. Let me know when you find something good.

Felt like a bold chocolate blend today and this is a great one. The fragrance is of chocolate. The taste combines chocolate, a distinct flowery tea taste, and a strong firm taste of something else (almost a coffee note), probably the pu-erh. It doesn’t taste much like the classic pu-erhs I’ve had, which works well in this tea. The tea itself has that wicked black color that I usually see in pu-erhs.

drank Creme Caramel by The Tea Spot

This was better today than it was the last time I had it, but still not a favourite. Brewed for 4 minutes and it was just starting to get bitter. The caramel note was very faint, but I didn’t have a cube of caramel in the spoonful of tea I brewed. I still have a 3/4-full tin of this so I’d better gift some or it’ll never get used up!
