Mmmm. My wife tried this yesterday and was raving about it, so after a too-long day and too-short sleep, I pulled it out of the sample box to kick me into action. I think I was a little too stingy on the leaves, but I wanted to leave enough of our sample so Rita could have another cup.

Yum! I can’t wait to try this again with more leaves. As it was, it reminded me of the fruit-infused greens that don’t try for perfume – a sweet and round taste that isn’t very bold or in-your-face, but still very pleasant. It was a great tea to drink at work. Not too sweet, not too leafy, not too much of anything but delicious. Looking forward to adding this one to the cupboard for sleepy mornings.

This is possibly one of my favourite teas of all time. I’m trying out a few weeks drinking oolong instead of black tea as my first cup in the morning, and milk oolong is a great way to start the day! Buttery, creamy, with a hint of floral. I usually drink it with milk, but it’s great on its own, too. I’m actually almost out so I need to buy some more!

drank Lime Fizz by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

Okay so whatever I did differently with this one worked wonders!! It’s so very yummy!
I still don’t get much lime, but the spice note is subdued and there is some definite fizzzzzz going on.
I think there might have been less “spice” in the brewed leaves, but I can’t be sure. Either way, I’m bumping the rating wayyyyy up. In fact I may consider stocking this one :)

Kittenna

Darn! I saw “Lime Fizz” and was pumped about a lime tea to try… but you say there’s not much lime. I love lime, so that makes me sad. Oh well… not as if I need to add to the shopping list anyhow!!

Indigobloom

I dunno, it could be just me! I’ve had trouble tasting citrus lately so don’t lose hope :)

Kittenna

Really, I should just start adding freshly squeezed lime juice into things. I’m such a lime addict. You know how you were caught “eating” tea? I continually get caught in bars (or restaurants, now that I’m over my undergrad years) attempting to floss my teeth to remove the limey bits caught between them after I ate the limes out of everyone’s drinks. Yep… XD

Indigobloom

LOL I am totally like that about anything in a restaurant. I hate seeing people ooh and ahh over their food, esp dessert and then leave half of it on the plate! I always steal a fry. But not yet a lime ;P

Kittenna

Hahaha, I am always stealing tastes. And most people are willing to let me have their limes/lemons, after they’ve squeezed them, if not before. I’ve actually taken to requesting a small bowl of lime/lemon slices in restaurants and bars :D Come to think of it, I’m probably a really annoying/embarrassing person to go to a restaurant with…!

Indigobloom

lol you’re talking to the girl who eats lemons dipped in sugar… ever tried it? soooo good. Like a lemonade candy!! I’ve even done that in a restaurant a few times…

Kittenna

Love it! Haven’t tried that though. But I do eat rhubarb out of the garden, and sometimes dip it in sugar!!

Indigobloom

omg I looooove fresh rhubarb. I always forget to buy it when in season, it’s out for such a short time!

drank Lime Fizz by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

Well I’m definitely getting a tiny bit of tingle outta this one! I didn’t expect that…
But not so much on the lime. It was more… generic citrus and spice.
Pleasant enough I suppose. The cup was nice to have by my desk. However, I doubt this will make my repurchase list.
There is enough left in my sample for one more. I’m cold brewing it with some San Pellegrino. Should be fun to see what happens :)

Tina S.

I love how it actually fizzes!

Indigobloom

hehe I know! :P

gmathis

Like Pop Rocks fizz?

Indigobloom

Hmmm. kindof. Apparently the combo of pepper and ginger does the trick!

drank Pear Cream by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

This tastes just like pears! and cream!!! wow, I did not expect it to be so spot on. It’s sweet and oh so creamy but in a natural way that I can totally appreciate… all balanced out by a slight tartness. YUMM!
I think I may need to snap up some more of this wonderful concoction.
Oh and there is fennel in this?! I’m so proud of you fennel, learning to share the spotlight :)

BTVSGal

sounds good!

Indigobloom

It really is BTVSGal! I’m craving more now…

Tina S.

hugs her precious Pear Cream I’m so glad you like this one! :D

Indigobloom

ME TO Tina, ME TO!!!

Kittenna

Yum, yes, this sounds delicious. Love pears, love creaminess. Can’t wait to expand beyond DavidsTea offerings (but my wallet could….)

Indigobloom

how far away is Guelph from London? there is a tasting there on the 18th of March. The prices are incredibly affordable! :)

Kittenna

A couple hours or less… there is a Tea Haus in London?? Interesting to know. I have a friend down that direction… I probably can’t make anything for the next while (school CRAZINESS) but that’s good to keep in mind…

Indigobloom

Huh, next time then. Would be fun!! Good luck with school…

Kittenna

Thanks for the heads-up about this place though – I should be able to make it down sometime during the summer, once the semester and my early field season are out of the way. Exciting! Gotta drink my way through a bunch of my stash in the meantime :D

Indigobloom

It’ll take me years to drink mine down… oi! Well let me know if you ever make it to TO, it’d be awesome to meet up :)

Kittenna

I make it to TO every now and then :) Perhaps we could meet up at some point and you could introduce me to a cool tea place!! I’ll try to remember when I’m heading there next!

Indigobloom

definitely Krystaleyn! Keep me posted when you are in town!! that’d be SO much fun ;P

drank Chocolate Heart by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

This is certainly an interesting one! not enough to rebuy, but I would recommend it to someone looking for a light spicy chocolate tea. It could be an alternative for DTs Chocolate Chili Chai.
My first steep was bare, steeped for 3-4 min. A little too strong for my liking, in the tea aspect. Spiciness was just right. The second steep, I had a leftover candy heart so added that, and also some milk. This brought out the chocolate quite a bit.
Also, I really like that most of the candy bits melted. I always feel it’s a waste when there is candy in a tea and it does nothing but sit there.
Overall, I think this was pleasant. Thanks so much for the sample Tina S!!

Tina S.

You’re welcome, bb! I agree it was really interesting but not one I’m going to refill.

drank Organic Ponmudi by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

I needed a kick in the butt to get moving this morning, so I decided to dive into this one. And since I wasn’t in the mood for a straight black, I added some of the Chai Spice I have from the Tea Haus. It made for a very malty chai, even with a spoonful of sugar and milk. It was actually too dry for me, so I had to add more sugar to bring it to where I could drink it. The more I have the Ponmudi the more I decide that as lovely as it is, it isn’t my preferred black.

Yup, definitely malty! I can see why Indigobloom loves this one so much. If you’re into affordable quality malty blacks, this is a must try. Myself I love my malts with milk and sugar, but there was no milk in my house so it was a tad dry for me today. That said, I still really enjoyed it and can see myself wanting more of this one soon.

Thanks to Tina S. and her cute little box of surprises for this! It was the first one I reached for, and I made a big pot to keep me company as I assembled a monster-pot of chili. I’ve been on a tropical sencha kick lately (a lot of Tealish’s Get Fresh), so it suited me well.

It’s quite nice! Mango and strawberry are forever in competition for the title of my favourite fruit, but I want mango to be done right in tea. I think this one captures it well. It’s not overwhelmingly sweet; the mango kind of follows the sencha here. The vegetal aspects of the sencha are still there, and it’s quite a refreshing combo. Earthy but juicy-fruity!

drank Assam Tarajulie by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

This is tasty! and malty, but light. Almost smoky in the malt aspect, and marshmallow like. At first it was a little plain, almost like every other black tea I’ve had recently… but then I added some agave and milk and it really brought the unique parts out.
So yes! I’m quite enjoying this cuppa. Thank you Tina S for sharing! you totally just made my morning (had a little tiff with someone, so needed a pick-me-up!)
Oh and it’s a little high on the astringency. I don’t mind that but if you aren’t one to like the sour notes in straight teas, maybe sit this one out.

Tina S.

hugs Glad to have brought you a bright spot when you needed it!

Indigobloom

aww thanks Tina! Hugs back!!

drank Lemon Grove by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

Been drinking a lot of this one this weekend, finishing it up so I can buy a fresh bag when I get my next order. I normally drink it iced but I am doing it hot and am just as in love with it. This is the flavour I expected from all the Earls I’ve tried, and didn’t get. Lemon-y without overpowerment. Definitely a keeper in the cupboard.

drank Lemon Grove by The Tea Haus

Made this one up today and stuck it in the fridge to drink iced. It is one of my favourite teas to drink cold, because it really is deliciously perfect. The lemon balances with a strong Ceylon black to create a cup of what I like to think of traditional iced tea. I added some agave this time and it really made the tea pop. Like most Tea Haus blacks there isn’t a dominating lemon flavour here, just one that plays so well in the black tea sandbox to make magic.

(Brewing details are for how it was brewed before cooling.)

drank English Caramel by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

Sipped down the last of this one tonight. It came free with my order and while it wasn’t a bad tea at all, it isn’t what I hope for in a tea. Those who were disappointed in David Tea’s Caramel Spice may enjoy this one though, since there is a definite caramel flavour to it!

drank English Caramel by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

This was the sample sent to me with my last order, and I decided tonight it was what I felt like. The cup unsweetened is very dark, both in colour and flavour. There were hints of the caramel but there was more of a strong toast and tea flavour than anything else. Disappointed, I attempted to salvage the cup and make it more into what I’d been craving, a caramel tea. I added half a spoon of sugar and poof, the tea magically transformed into caramel. The tea is still flavoured, but with the small addition I did it was balanced now and much more of a true caramel flavour. The toastedness did fade, though, so if that’s what you’re searching for I recommend trying another sweetener to retain it.

drank Sweet Orange by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

Apologies for all of these entries, I’m totally behind on Steepster-ing!

Sweet Orange was my travel tea on both days, and it was almost exactly what I needed. Something with a slight kick but mellow enough to not distract me from driving. Putting 1000km on a rental car over two days is very very tiring!

This tea is lovely hot, but the orange seems to come out more the more sweetener that is added. If you’re not a sweet fan, you may not get as much orange.

De

I need to pick some of this up next time we’re there, I can’t believe it slipped my mind.

Tina S.

In your mind’s defence, you had quite a list there to get through and we were crunched for time.

Bumping the rating up on this one! I brewed it this morning and totally forgot the pot after I removed the leaves. When I finally got to it the tea was room temperature, but what a treat! At this temperature the orange was much more prominent, and there was a slight hint of cream as well. Now I can’t wait to try this one iced to see just how orange it becomes!

drank Sweet Orange by The Tea Haus

Another from my beloved Tea Haus. This is definitely a tea for those people who prefer their flavoured teas to retain a mostly tea flavour. Dry it smells amazingly orange-y, so I was surprised when I took my first sip and found it to be a mostly black tea flavour with subtle orange undernotes. For my second cup I was curious what some sweetener would do to the flavours so I added a small bit of agave. It didn’t change the orange notes, instead just making the entire cup a sweeter version of what it was. I do enjoy the tea, and definitely recommend it for people who enjoy teas with lighter flavours. I’m just not sure that I’m one of those people with my blacks.

drank Assam Tarajulie by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

Haven’t had this one since I reviewed it ages ago, and so I’m revisiting it tonight. Dry, the leaves smell almost chocolate like! I didn’t notice that before and it made me smile as I scooped it out of the tin. Once brewed the broth is a beautiful colour, almost that of a dark brown brandy with just hints of red notes. I’d seriously serve this just because it looks so pretty.

First impressions on first sip is . . malt. Definite strong malt although still a light broth. It’s interestingly unique that way to me. As I sip a bit more I get almost . . barley? Oh, and there is the astringency I remember from last time.

If you like Assams, this is definitely a great tea to try. I’m offering samples if anyone’s interested!

I had this one as my “walking to work” cup this morning. Yes I’m one of those lucky people who live a short walk to work, and sometimes I’m actually awake early enough to brew a tea to bring with me along the way. Today I had this one, with a dash of sugar. It was a great morning wakeup cup, with a nice full flavour and definite malt notes. Unlike the raspberry rush i had last night, this one didn’t leave my mouth feeling the effects of the tannins, either. I tend to prefer my blacks with a bit more natural sweet notes, but this is definitely a lovely tea I’ll be keeping in my collection for those days when I’m in a malty mood.

drank Keemun by The Tea Haus
440 tasting notes

This is only the second time I’ve had a keemun, and I’m definitely going to have to keep my eye out for more. I brewed this one to have along with some pasta, and yum. It was definitely a good choice. My first cup was mild, brewed for 3 minutes before pouring. There was some slight malt, and overall a nice round flavour that stood on its own against the abundance of garlic I’d tossed into my lunch.

My second cup came from the same pot, I’d left the leaves in and it kept steeping. There was no bitterness or oversteepage flavours. The malt was much stronger here, but if anything it made me enjoy the tea more. The extra flavour gave it a really nice strong body, which drinking black was deliciously yummy. Yes, I said yummy. Definitely looking forward to this one again.

drank Sweet Orange by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

Big thank you to Tina S for sharing!! I’m so glad I had a chance to try this.
So… the good news is that I saw my naturopath the other day and she thinks that once I get my health issues under control, this darned flavoured tea sensitivity I seem to have should subside. I really hope so :)
The bad news is that I could feel even this tea, with such minimal added “flavouring” getting at my allergy. Gah! 90% of the additives here are things I can easily handle. It’s the extracts and such that get me…
Anyhow, the tea.
It’s a nice tea, light on the orange but blending right in with the Ceylon OP. There is that same creamy orange aspect here as well… the one that I suspect I’d enjoy immensely if it weren’t for complicating factors!
Oh and it was pretty darn sweet, considering I didn’t add any sugar. I assumed that I would need to but when I took a test sip, found that it wasn’t necessary at all.
For anyone that enjoys mellow (but not distant) orange in their tea, I highly recommend this!!

Daniel Scott

If you don’t mind my asking, what are you allergic to?

Indigobloom

I don’t mind :)
So far, Bergamot, Jasmine, and Vanilla extracts. There are others but I’ve yet to pinpoint them. It only seems to apply with tea or coffee. When cooked, I have no issues with Vanilla!

Daniel Scott

..Yikes, that seems like it would limit your tea options significantly. Man, I grew up on Earl Grey, I’d be terribly sad to develop a bergamot allergy.

Indigobloom

oh I’ve never been able to enjoy an EG… it’s always tasted like dirty socks. I wish I could enjoy it but there are plenty of others I can have :)

Daniel Scott

Dirty socks! Haha, I can actually see that, despite liking Earl Grey, although I couldn’t tell you why.

Indigobloom

heh, don’t ask me how I know what dirty socks taste like. Well have cup of the Earl for me and try not to think of laundry :P

Almond is really hard to get right, so if you found a good one…you are one lucky sleep walker (just stay off the streets girl…since that gypsy woman stint with the pu erh I’m worried about you!).

drank Almond Rooibos by The Tea Haus
1759 tasting notes

Mmmmmmmmm heaven. Rooibos almond heaven!!! thanks Tina S for sourcing it!!
The rooibos comes out pretty strong here but then the almond has some serious voice, so I guess it balances out. I just wish it was a tad deeper- then I’d be obliged to give it a full 100!
As it stands, I added less than a teaspoon of light agave and it’s just perfect, if not a little light on intensity. (the rooibos is starting to get heavy so I couldn’t risk steeping longer)
Ovderall, I’m not sure which one I like more… the almond, or the mango I tried last night. Pfffffft. okay, def the almond. hands down!! who was I kidding…

Tina S.

grin Yay liking another one of your teas! dances
