Oh my god this tea is amazing. It’s soooo nutty and sweet, like a nutty vanilla pudding.

I’m not sure how much of the base tea I am getting, but I’ll forgive them that based on the rest of the flavor.

There’s the tiniest bit of astringency, but it’s so very minor that it’s another thing I am willing to forgive.

Gets nuttier as it cools—more like hazelnut.

I liked this waaaay better than I thought I would, but I had to try it because the smell coming from the bag was way too enticing- exactly like cooking sticky rice! This has been my “learn to knit” tea for the past two nights at Dinosara ’s house, and it has served admirably. Total, we have gotten 25+ steeps (pour water in gaiwan, and immediately pour tea out of gaiwan), and I will continue with it at work today, because it had reached a really good point.
The first steep (after a rinse) itself tasted just like sticky rice, with just a touch of what was to come. The second steep was super bitter and difficult to drink, and I think this was the point at which we bumped the brew time down from 10 seconds to as-fast-as-you-can-, which greatly improved it. Around steep 6 or 7 the bitterness calmed down and the sticky rice flavor came back in force. It gave the the sense of being warm and toasty- the smell of cooking rice and the warmth of the tea was very comforting, and at this point I decide I liked this experience! We probably got around 20 steeps out of this the first day and put it in a tupperware in the fridge overnight.
Day 2 with this tea saw me learning how to stitch a purl, and not only had my knitting improved, but this tea had, greatly, as well! The sticky rice was smooth and present, and dare I say the liquor was sweet! It left my mouth with an almost minty feeling… maybe like how vics vaporub feels in your nose, but in my mouth? I super pleasant experience and worth continuing, even though we took a break from this tea after maybe 6-7 steeps today to enjoy a lovely tieguanyin. I will keep going with it today at work, because the leaves clearly had more to give.
Note: do not let the tea in your cup cool down. The bitterness comes back quite strongly if you wait to drink your tea!
Thank you very much LiquidProust, I have certainly enjoyed this new experience!

I’m sure this might have sparked more interest to try the mini jasmine sheng :)
Glad you enjoyed the tea and wow… all the steeps!

I have only had sticky rice shu, but never green. Did you know it is an herb that makes it taste like rice? I think that is so cool. How can an herb taste JUST LIKE cooked rice?

Equusfell

Liquid Proust- Yes! I’m so glad I have two of each kind! Remind me what the name/brand of the jasmine one is? Also, we need to get you a gaiwan, so you too can enjoy many steeps! I got another 5 out of it this morning before I wanted something else!
Ashmanra- no! I didn’t know that! I was wondering how the heck the got that flavor to persist over so many steeps!

Liquid Proust

The brand is on the wrapper :)
I believe it is the only roman letters on the entire thing.
Earlier this week I got Piao Teapot in the mail as a gift from my parents and since then my pu’erh steeping has been the best ever :)

They might look beautiful but the taste is rather bitter and strong; almost as if they were sitting around in something funky.

This tea makes me hungry… the smell is absolutely wonderful, stick rice indeed!
The first steep is bit strong, but this can be brewed quite a few times. I really like when the tea is somewhat milder and the rice taste/smell blends in with it to make a wonderful cup of tea that makes your senses a little annoyed as you smell food but drink liquid. As for taste its quite good. The green tea may be somewhat strong but that is what is to be expected from a green pu erh.

drank Sunset Chai by TehKu

Yet another green chai… I have hope that one day there shall arise one that is decent. Green tea just doesn’t seem to mix well with spices no matter how well the ratio has been balanced out. This may have been a better attempt with the nutty notes from the almond pieces but I still do not desire to drink this.

drank Oolong Berry by TehKu
1113 tasting notes

First of all: I have bought this tea many times and I am unsure how many cups of it have passed through my body.

This is by far one of the best fruity oolong teas I have ever tasted. The labels don’t tell you what kind of berries are in it but I don’t care because I’m after taste. The oolong is quality and the berry taste is quite satisfying as it is not on its own out of nowhere nor does it override the oolong taste; they work together in harmony. Such a wonderful tea :)

drank TehKu Golden Monkey by TehKu

The gold dust shall never escape my empty package!
This tea was recommended to me after I told the owner that black teas will never have a positive relationship… however I generally listen to advice from others so I bought a bag with intentions of giving it to a friend but the curiosity hit me and I tried a cup. The smoky taste added with a milder black tea taste wasn’t that bad actually; in fact I kept half of the bag and drank the rest myself.

NO NO NO!
Rose petals and coconut do not blend well period… the addition of pineapple sweetness and cornflower blossoms on top of whatever this brewed added to the green tea base can be entertaining but unadvised.

Brew this cup and hand it to a friend to provide a great example of how a hot cup of green tea with fruit should taste. The balance of gunpowder green tea and ‘premium green tea’ is fantastic as it blends with the strawberry and pineapple to provide refreshing fruity green tea. As a tea this is thirst quenching and provides comfort with the enjoyment that comes from pineapples and strawberries becoming friends in your mouth :)

drank Green Pomegranate by TehKu
1113 tasting notes

I have been really enjoying the pomegranate flavors being added to teas but with this tea it’s the mixture of green and white that lose its appeal. While the pomegranate pieces and flavor are nice, the white tea adds a dry leaf taste that isn’t attractive compared to what a green tea that is mellow would produce.

drank Mystery Tea by TehKu
1113 tasting notes

To this day I wish I knew what this tea was…
There were pieces of chocolate in this mixture which initially made me think it’d be nasty. This tea had a very sweet taste as if a blueberry and a pomegranate had been smashed together and covered in a very thin coat of chocolate- but I still am unsure if this was an oolong, black, or green tea which is sad to say because I drink hundred of cups a year. All I know is that this was a wonderful cup and the mystery helps as well.
(It was sold as mystery and my sister bought it for me as a gift, I asked the store and they had no clue what it was either because I went there a few months later after finishing it off)

drank Fire Moon by TehKu

I walk into Tehku, “I wonder what the weirdest thing I can find it” and this ends up being choice #2 so I purchase it even though it sounds nasty but I find the addition of walnut to be intriguing. To my surprise this has been the best rooibos I have had yet! The nutty notes and strong African rooibos flavor mix so well with the fruit they added to this and I would have never though it to taste well from the sound of it. I am glad that I picked this up as a joke for my taste buds because it is splendid.

drank Joyful Heart by TehKu

The bag on this tea says in four different colors (purple, red, and pink), “This tea yields a very pleasant & refreshing cup” and I am almost there with them. I find this tea to taste very good but I don’t feel the calmness that a lot of green teas provide. This tea is a sweeter tea and taste great hot and cold which is nice. A bit dry tasting but overall nice.

Nut-tastic green tea! Blessed to end the holiday with a trip to TehKu in Dublin. If you’re ever near Columbus, OH, you MUST stop at TehKu. It will not disappoint.

The tea smells like a sugar cookie. The strongest flavor was the coconut, but both the walnut and pineapple were present. I’d like to try this again when I have more time to savor. I almost bought some, but decided the teas I ordered on Della Terra for Black Friday were enough for right now. I need to have some self control!

Sil

self con-what? :)

Em

I hear ya, Sil. It was super difficult, but I do know I can go back and get some ;) And I failed to mention that I picked up more Butterfly Kisses!

After enjoying the sample of Moon Festival, I ordered this delicious wintery tea. It reminded me of Della Terra’s Candy Cane tea from last winter and I was transported to a winter wonderland. They did not have this one available to take home, but had another that was so similar I can’t taste the difference :) So of course I bought it!

YUMMO!! This tea is heavenly. Sipping it this morning and feel the need to turn the Christmas music on, but instead I’ll listen to Joshua Radin. Who, by the way, was one of the 2 people my friend Kim and I saw in concert last night at Newport Music Hall. His voice and this music blend perfectly :)

After lunch, we headed to Dublin. Stopped at a great used/overstock bookstore on the way. In Dublin, we had to check out the TehKu tea shop there. We enjoyed this experience much more than Zen-Cha. They had this delicious tea as a sample for the day. After tasting it, I knew I needed to take some home. The man working told me that he had just sold the last bag. I was devastated. But this story must have a happy ending…

And it did. I found a few bags hiding by the register :) My day was made. This tea reminds me of the little cakes made for the Moon Festival. Yum! Can’t wait for my lunch break to make a cup!

The dry Sencha, toasted rice and corn are powdered with Matcha and have a vegetal/grainy aroma. The lime-green infusion has the toasty aroma and flavor of grains, a bit sweeter in taste, less vegetal than some greens. More brothy in subsequent infusions; the Matcha diminishes, of course, but the remaining Sencha remains smooth and tasty. A keeper!

This is a delightfully rich and satisfying tea. It’s smoky, a bit malty, full-bodied, and complete within itself. Near the end of my cup I added a bit of honey and milk, which did not detract from the tea, but really didn’t add anything. I would drink this again, hot and golden. Golden Monkey seems to be the tea-drinker’s equivalent to a single-malt scotch.

TehKu is a local company with a wonderful tea-house, and I know that they do mail-order for those who live outside the area. No affiliation.
