I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented on this before, but this tea smells and tastes like wet dog to me right now. I mean, it’s slight so I can still taste the fruit and still smell the waxiness (like wax lips candy) but there is definitely something a little off about it now. Maybe it’s because it’s getting older?

Backlog from January 24th:

I started my morning with a cup of this tea before heading out to a children’s birthday party. I had written a detailed note as I was drinking my first cup but forgot to save it before I left so when I returned home it was gone. This was not my favorite of the Saint Simons Tea Company teas, I do remember that. It was cloudy with what looked like citrus pulp and tasted both sweet and tart. It was fruity, yes, but not really any better than your average fruit tisane. I’ll write a proper note once I’ve had a chance to try this blend again.

The extra tea helped today. I can taste the vanilla and a hint of spice. It’s getting closer and closer to my favorite Starbucks latte.

I’m steeping this longer today than I normally would. I want to try it with cream to see if it tastes similar to Starbucks’ Vanilla Rooibos latte (but with honey instead of sugar syrup and no steamed milk). I’m enjoying the creaminess and light sweetness. The flavor is good, but I think next time I’ll use more than a teaspoon of tea to make it a little stronger. I don’t taste any of the chai spices or even the vanilla really.

I’m feeling motivated today and am trying to push forward from the momentum I have from earlier this week. I’m moving a little more, taking care of myself a little better, trying to keep things clean and organized. I’m trying to keep the positivity. One breath at a time. Each moment a new chance.

I remembered before I steeped this that you can add milk to rooibos so I tried it today. After tasting it, the flavor seemed familiar and I realized it was very similar to Starbucks’ Vanilla Rooibos latte when they used Tazo teas. I always loved those so I looked up the description to see if I could replicate it at home – rooibos, steamed milk, syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and foam. I may try to make this at some point. It’s a drink that miss since they’ve moved over to Teavana teas. I wonder if they have anything similar now.

Opening the bag, this smells mentholated like a pack of cough drops. Steeping brings out the rooibos but it still seems very much to me like a medicinal tea. I put a little too much honey in this one so it’s a bit too sweet. I can taste the spices somewhat (maybe ginger?) but mostly it’s the rooibos I taste. It could be because this tea is getting older. It’s not really what I’m wanting today so I think I’ll go with a black tea next.

I brought two teas from Saint Simon’s to work with me today. Since it’s cold and the sky is threatening snow, I thought the spiced tea would be the way to go. It’s lightly spiced – the most prominent taste is rooibos. I’m sure I should have shaken the bag more.

I was distracted this morning and left this to steep for 19-20 minutes – much longer than I should have. Hopefully since it’s rooibos it won’t make much of a difference. It’s sweet and faintly smells of spice. Ginger, I think. I get more spice in the aroma than in the flavor. Having this with a mango banana smoothie for breakfast.

This is such a beautiful tea. The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was the bright, rusty color of the rooibos. It resembles a deeply colored pine mulch and is striking against the red peppercorns and blue cornflowers in the mix. There are also bits of ginger, as evidenced by the stringiness of the pieces, and chips of cinnamon bark. There are small pebbles of something or other mixed in too, but I couldn’t say what they are. There is definitely a lot going on.

This blend is very fragrant – there are a lot of different scents coming out here. It’s a bit medicinal at first and I can detect the faint smell of menthol, but it also smells sweet. I have to say, I love the way this smells while it’s steeping! The vanilla and rooibos really come to the forefront. The color of the liquid has become a deep amber after steeping and still carries that menthol scent.

Unsweetened, the tea tastes slightly spiced. I added honey and am now tasting mostly rooibos with that spicy aftertaste. This is a really good chai, even without the milk, and it feels good on my scratchy throat. It seems to have just enough bite. Delightful!
