This is a very interesting “herbal tea”.

The tea can be brewed/steeped for up to 60 minutes, but I only did mine for 6 minutes per the instructions for a light brew on the package. My tasting notes reflect this.

This herbal tea has a slight phosphoric taste, but I do not say that negatively, it tastes somewhat buttery but with some distinct mineral notes. Perhaps what shocked me the most were the notes of green tea that I got from this, yes this does actually slightly resemble legitimate tea. Given that Mamaki is caffeine free, this makes the herbal tea a solid replacement for true tea when I am trying to limit caffeine intake.

Mamaki tea! First off, mamaki can be steeped for at least 5 minutes – and traditionally is steeped for 1 hour! So I tried it at 5, 15 and 1 hour steepings!

The longer the steep, the richer the flavor. Lots of yam, corn, sweet potato, little herbal and sweet notes. I prefer the longer steeping – even with the long steep, the tea never gets bitter or dry. Mamaki would be the perfect caffeine tea to leave in your tumbler while you sip away.

Sipdown (mom had the other cup). Apparently Mamaki is a Hawaiian version of the nettle plant; I’ve never had nettle tea before, but this is fascinating. It’s like spearmint without the menthol mixed with chamomile. The flavor is a perfect mix between the two. It’s very calming and pleasant. I wouldn’t have picked this up for myself, so I’m glad LiberTEAS put a couple of sachets in my box! It was interesting to try.

Backlog:

This was my first (recalled) experience with Mamaki. I may have tried it before but I don’t recollect.

I enjoyed this! It has a very smooth, pleasant flavor that is buttery and sweet and vegetative. It has a very enjoyable texture, like a thinned broth. Very nice to sip.
