Neat little local place called Woody’s is a combination of working gas station and mini-mart with some of the best smokehouse barbecue in town. (“I’ll have $20 worth of unleaded and your two-meat combo!”) Went for lunch and had iced Luzianne out of the big brew vat. There’s just something about on-tap teas that taste stale and acidic, even for a brand that’s generally pretty reputable. But it was cold and I was hot. Makes me appreciate good, freshly steeped tea on ice.

Grabbed a bag out of our break room bin in desperation; needed a hand warmer more than something sophisticated to drink; doesn’t make a bad hot tea, though it has a little bit of a papery aftertaste.

Papery? That’s a new one to me. :)

Sounds like a good term for the steepster dictionary!

I tried brewing this at a lower temperature, and also added some peppermint leaves. The lower temperature does improve the flavor a lot, and the peppermint is a nice addition.

I really am going to have to start playing with additives. I’m making myself a post-it.

Auggy

I’ve added maple and almond extracts to teas before. Not quite the same type of additives as the peppermint but still enjoyable. Haven’t tried it with a green though. Hmm. The almond might be nice.

Have you tried this to make sun tea? It taste awesome. Kinda melonish in flavor; very fruity.

Cynthia Carter

I haven’t made sun tea with it, but I have added strained honeydew melon juice to it. Very refreshing!

A decent basic green tea for making iced green tea. I like blending this with fruit.

It is ice tea weather here in the Coastal South, so I made a pitcher of black and blue tea with this today. Two bags Luzianne black tea, about two cups of frozen blueberries, thawed, blended to release the juice and strained, two quarts of water, and a couple of tablespoons of agave nectar to lightly sweeten. Cheers, y’all!
