One side of pea soup straight from the marshy bog coming right up! Unlike matcha this does not mix with the water well so you get the whole feeling of marshy bog; aroma, texture, and taste. It even looks like a pond covered in that green stuff. Not pond scum, that’s nasty. But those tiny leaves. I’m just glad this doesn’t taste like MN lake water or it would not be coming near my mouth. This is herbal! Like a spartan kicking a guy into the pit. A dry woodsy, peat moss, odd kick in your pants spicy (it comes at the end when it goes down your throat) sensation herbal. Good to try once. Better to mix with other things.

Duckweed! I used to grow it in a large bucket and you are right, it is so pretty. My chickens and the neighbors duck enjoyed it.

Definitely getting that aroma of sugar snap peas again today. Goodness, it’s spicier than I remember. Maybe because I’m non drinking it with any milk or sweetener. The spice lingers in my throat like cayenne.

A gift from Leaves of Magic – thank you!

I’ve had moringa before but only in smoothies. I’ve never tried drinking it as a tea. Sedem generously sent a large bag for me to try, so no doubt I’ll be adding some to smoothies later on. Today I wanted to try as a latte, similar to how I typically make matcha lattes. I used a 1/2 teaspoon with 5 ounces of water and 5 ounces of milk. I also added some sugar for sweetness instead of honey so it doesn’t alter the flavor.

Before adding the milk, the aroma was very reminiscent of sugar snap peas. It smelled sweet and vegetal. I thought if it smelled too much like veg I wouldn’t like it, but it’s really interesting! The flavor isn’t overwhelming with the addition of the milk, and there is a spiciness I’m feeling at the back of my throat after each sip. Even though it’s a fine powder like matcha, it doesn’t dissolve quite as well so there were some bits that settled at the bottom of my cup. I only noticed it in my last couple of sips so it wasn’t really a big deal.

Overall, I think is a great option for a sort of decaf matcha option (even though it isn’t matcha) when I’m wanting something with that sort of flavor profile.

March Sipdown Madness

This tea lost its match up against Bird & Blend’s “Earl’s Paradise” – and I kind of knew that this tea would probably have lost no matter what it was paired with. It’s not that it’s a bad tea – in fact, I actually think it’s an incredibly nice quality of moringa used. Very fresh/crisp. It’s just that, in general, moringa is one of those flavours that isn’t super palatable and the best application for this powder is to mix it with other teas or use a small amount as an addition to a mug – and that’s just not how I’ve approached this tournament…

Started my Monday morning with a sweet and vegetal cup of this Moringa Powder, which Leaves of Magic were kind enough to gift to me! With moringa, a little goes a LONG way, so I think I need to keep playing with what ratio is best for me. This definitely tasted fresh and crisp though & I think in the future I might like to try it mixed in with some flavoured matcha as well!
